Montrail Namche Mid Hiking Shoe - Men's

My second pair, light durable, one pair to wear daily and the other for backpacking. The shoe went from light hiker of the year 2007 (outdoor magizine) to discontinued. It's a 5 for me.

I give it high marks for lightness, fit and comfort. I cannot use a low-cut hiker because of ankle support issues, so when I saw that the Hardrock was being used as the base for the Namche, I had to try it. The pair I used for a month of perhaps 25 miles of hiking had a problem where the tough external mesh pulled away from the stitching outside of the tongue portion of the toebox on both shoes. I hope that the second pair does better, then I could easily rate them a 4 or 5.

First let me say that I have not put many miles on this hiking shoe as of this date. The only problem that I have encountered is the pull strap on the back pulled out the first time I tried to put my foot in the shoe. This is a minor problem and one that does not bother me much. The hiking shoe was rather stiff and will take some miles to get broken in; this could be a good thing, because hopefully that means it will last longer. I would recommend breaking this shoe in prior to attempting a 5 mile hike for sure. My other hiking boots (The North Face) where so comfortable when I first put those on, I went on a 10-mile hike the first time wearing. Like I stated earlier, I'm sure once the Namche Mid Hiking shoe gets broken in, I'm sure it will be a great addition to my hikes.

Bought these to compliment my Scarpa waterproof boots. Wore them around town for a few days, but took them to Rocky Mountain National Park today for their first real trail/trial. Did over ten miles and they fit fine and were so comfortable that I forgot that they were new. The breathability, which is what I was looking for, worked like a charm. No more hot feet. Good support is there too, since the trail are as rocky as can be. I couldn't find anything to complain about.

I purchased the Montrail Namche hoping for a Hardrock-type hiking shoe with a little more ankle support. First impression out of the box: they run small. I usually wear a Men's 11, but I had to return the 11 for an 11.5 before I could start hiking in them. After 3 weekend trips: Same great Hardrock sole, light weight, drains great, excellent support for my ankles, which for me, means my knees don't take as much abuse. I have decided to use these boots with Superfeet insoles for my Oregon-WA PCT hike this summer. Only complaint: the "celery" color = yellow!! No matter, they'll be filthy dirty soon enough.

This is a provisional review as I've used this shoe on a few day hikes, some scrambling on local crags and an overnight. I like them a lot---good support, excellent breathability, great sole and in many respects they feel like Hardrocks with a higher cut---but with better rubber. They are not so approach shoe oriented as the Montrail CTC, lacking it's Gryptonite rand and beefier sidewalls but it makes up for this by being a more ventilated shoe. The mesh uppers seem to dry out pretty quickly, an attribute I value. The higher mid ankle cut offers some degree of support that will be appreciated both in rugged terrain and on long thru-packs. The stretchy collar helps to keep debris from getting into the shoe. Some people may not like it's relative tightness but it's a matter of personal taste, I think. Not an extremely wide toebox, in the Montrail way, but well protected. Heel counter and box lovely for my narrow heels. Materials seem well chosen for both lowish weight and good durability. I will be using them a lot on my longer distance UL fastpacks and I expect them to do very well for my brand of often off-trail, light mountaineering oriented kind of trips. I think that the Outdoor equipment media has for once, gotten it right with their laudatory reviews.

on my second pair, the first de-laminated first week I had them. Montrail replaced them and low and behold the same thing happened again. There is a plastic-y material that goes around the bottom portion of the upper and this has de-lamed on both pairs. Can't recommend.
