Mountain Hardwear Vinson Jacket - Men's

You want a powder skirt in your jacket for days on the slopes, but you’d also love to remove the bulk when you wear that same insulated, stretchy jacket downtown. Mountain Hardwear made the Men’s Vinson Jacket with a removable powder skirt. The low-bulk PrimaLoft One insulation uses microfibers that mimic the thermal properties of down without creating that puffer-fish effect, while the outer TufStretch fabric provides four-way-stretch comfort.

Bottom Line: Fully featured for the slopes, low-bulk for the town.

Great Jacket

By:
March 25, 2009

I've skied in this jacket at least 10 days now. Overall great jacket. Perfect for bluebird days. Very durable jacket and holds up well to abuse. Pockets are great (with the exception of the internal water bottle pocket which only holds on to the bottle if you stay upright, oh well). Great cold/dry weather softshell.

What is the weight of the Primaloft insulation in this jacket?

What is the weight of the Primaloft insulation in this jacket? (In oz. sq/yd or grams)Actual sleeve length size large, XL?Room for layering in the sleeves?.... they look narrow.I tried calling and emailing MH about this, but I get either voice mail(no call backs), or email(they don't reply to emails). Hmmm, why bother having "customer service" then? LOL! They are not so customer friendly as say Marmot, who is very easy to get a hold of. In this case, a potential sale lost.

Sorry for your hassles getting in touch with Mountain Hardwear. It is usually not that difficult. We need to improve apparently and this will be brought up with the cservice department pronto! I will get back to you here with the answers to your questions. Thanks!--------------------------Here's the rest of the answer: The Vinson uses 100g Primaloft PL-1 in body, sleeves, and hood. No other gram wt is used in the jacket. The sleeve length on XL is 38" and there is plenty of room to layer underneath. Again, sorry for your hassles and I hope this answers your questions.

Awesome Jacket

By:
January 19, 2009

Just got back from a ski trip in Breckenridge and this jacket performed flawlessly. It kept out the wind and never held on to any water. It even held up against tree branches in those tight tree runs. Awesome jacket so happy with the purchase.

Not sure what kind of helmet you have but it is designed to go over most helmets. With that said, some are bigger than others and you'll just have to try it. Hope this helps.

I have the Smith Hustle in an XL (I have a big dome) and the hood fits over that. The Hustle is a big helmet to begin with so unless your melon is the size of the goodyear blimp you should be good.

I am planning to do some winter camping in New Hamshire in mid February. Our day activities will be snowshoe hiking up and around mountains. Could you suggest the right type of Parka or jacket? I like the PrimaLoft over down. I am in my mid fifties and in reasonable shape. Thank you

This would be a good option for aerobic activities. If you plan to layer underneath it up to two layers, you should size up one size to allow for movement underneath.

Mountain Hardwear Vinson Jacket - Men's

This is a great piece. The hand is particularly soft on it...much more so than Goretex Softshell. It is supple to the touch, while maintaining its durability. The pocketing is excellent on it with two well-sized hand pockets and a great cell phone/mp3 player pocket on the inside. The powder skirt is great as is the well thought out drop down velcro season's pass pocket. This piece does have some weight to it at almost 3 lbs., but when you put it on and feel the warmth you soon find it is well worth it. For a cold and dry weather softshell, this definitely gets 5 stars!

Im looking for a jacket that I can wear from class to class in

Im looking for a jacket that I can wear from class to class in winter. When walking around campus with the wind blowing between the buildings it can get pretty cold. I need something that will keep me warm and dry in the snow, rain, sleet and any other winter condition that comes this time of year. Will this jacket work?

Certainly will. It's a little light, so if it gets really cold you might need to layer something under it.

Well, I am not sure about the Apex Bionic but I can tell you that the G50 has a center back length (measurement from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the jacket) of 27". The Vinson has a CBL of 29". So, it is longer by two inches. Hope this helps.
