Mountain Hardwear Light Wedge 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

The Mountain Hardwear Light Wedge 3 Tent's clean lines and functional design has found a following among both beginning campers and seasoned backpackers. With a slight departure from the standard dome design, the Light Wedge 3 Tent includes a brow pole over the door that increases vestibule space, so you have plenty of room for gear storage on a rainy night. Internal mesh pockets give you place to stash your small items when you settle into this Mountain Hardwear tent. If you want to go really light, pitch the vestibule with the Light Wedge 3 Footprint (available separately) and leave the main body at home.

Bottom Line: Time-tested design.

Awesome Tent

I bought this tent because my other REI 5-6 person tent is too big for solo or 2 person camping. I go camping regularly with my son's scout troop, and wanted a smaller tent with good rain protection and cold weather capability. I did get the custom footprint. This tent is awesome for 1 person, and is fine for me with either one of my younger sons and two duffel bags inside. It's light for its size and can be used for 2 for backpacking. It sets up easily by one person, even in the dark due to only 2 main poles. Plenty of pockets inside. It has been used in extensive rain; 1 week of regular and heavy rain in July at boy scout camp and never leaked a drop. Plenty of mesh for warmer weather, but full coverage fly all the way to the ground. I always set up the fly, anchor the side guy-lines, then unbuckle the corner fly clips, then roll the fly up to the center of the tent to expose almost all the mesh panels. The downside to the fly is it is a hot tent in warmer temps when raining; the ventilation is substandard with the fly coming down to the ground. However, this should be an advantage in winter and high wind. The vestibule is small; not really big enough for a large pack(s) and that's the only down side. I loaned this tent to a friend; he's 6'5 in excess of 260 lbs; he loved it and bought one. I highly recommend this tent.

AHHH. I am so confused. I camp with my partner and we are both pretty tall guys. 6'5" and 6'3. We were both more than comfortable in the previous tent we have owned - a Eureka Spitfire 2. Now that the 90lb Golden Retriever came along that isn't the case. I have been looking at this tent as well as the Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3. I'm not entirely concerned about weight since we try not to backpack with the dog. Should I go with this tent or the Hammerhead 3? There are so many conflicting reviews that I am stuck between a rock and hard place. :\ Help! Thanks.

Tough. If you take the dog... look for a 4 person tent. If you want the bigger of the two between the Hammerhead 3 and this Light Wedge 3... go with the Hammerhead 3! Hope this helps.

Good Quality Tent....I'm Happy With It.

I love the tent. First used on a 10 day trip from Missouri to Nevada and back on my Suzuki DR 650. Very easy to set up and take down. I withstood 30 mph winds and 40+ mph gusts in Colorado with out the side stake in the ground. Fly and footprint fit very good. Overall very good tent for the money. It stays warmer than I expected in cool weather. At 45-55 degree nights we were still very comfortable with a light sleeping bag. Fit and finish are very good... zipper on tent and fly work very well. So far I am very happy with it.

Great Tent!

I spent days reading about different tents before buying the light wedge. I've taken it out on a 3 day trip in CO since buying it and couldn't be happier. It rained on us every night and on the third day it rained pretty much the entire day and night. When we got back from hiking, I was pleased to find our tent completely dry on the inside and all our gear under the vestibule equally dry. The tent is definitely adequate for 3 people (we slept two of us and our two German Shepherds very comfortably). At one point we had our two friends and the two dogs in the tent w/ us when playing some cards and it wasn't really that bad. Also, it packs up pretty small (recommend buying a compression sack for it) and is very light, especially when you split it up (wife carried the poles/footprint). Only thing I wish it had was more stakes. You need 6 more stakes to have one for each guy line on the fly (4) and another one to stake the side of the fly down on either side of the tent. Even w/o the use of the guy lines the fly still held off some torrential rain, so it's only a minor point, but I'm still going to buy 6 more stakes. Other than that, this is a perfect 3-season tent!
