Mountain Hardwear Tanglewood Softshell Jacket - Men's

Go for a cool-weather run or bike ride in the Mountain Hardwear Men's Tanglewood Softshell Jacket. This stretchy jacket gives you some insulation on those chilly days but breathes deeply for comfort during aerobic output. Mountain Hardwear designed the Tanglewood shell with a slim, athletic cut. The rear zip pocket stashes some carb gels or car keys without making you feel off-balance, and the thumb loops supply your hands with some extra warmth. Headphone ports in the hand pockets keep bothersome cords out of your way, and 360-degree reflectivity increases your safety at night.

Bottom Line: The Mountain Hardwear Tanglewood Softshell Jacket insulates without broiling you during your outdoor cardio workouts.

Nice Jacket

I got this jacket in the Galaxy blue color. It's a really nice color and pretty much looks exactly like the picture. I'm a little on the short side and the small fits me okay. (5'6'' and 135 pounds). The front is cut a little short and the bottom kind of squeezes in without even tightening the waist draw cords, but overall I am very happy with this jacket.

Happy with the jacket

I've used this for cold weather cycling and backcountry skiing (both nordic and alpine). It's done great in everything. I'm especially pleased with the long sleeves-they overlap well with warm gloves. My only complaint is that the main zipper is very small, and is difficult to operate in gloves.

great jacket, light weight, warm, very mobile, great fit, very warm, the only down side is, no hood does great as a mid layer in real bad conditions.

All That & Then Some

This jacket is all that and more. When I first placed my order I got a M according to the fit chart. I had to return it and got a L instead. I primarily use this jacket for my winter bike riding. And let me tell you it has kept me warm and comfortable. I did find that at temps at around 5 degrees the jacket does not breathe very well, it has not bothered or affected me or my riding. And you should be ok as long as you have a proper layer under it.

Great for cycling!

December 21, 2007

Purchased for cycling, and it does a great job. 5'11", 170lbs, 42" chest, 30" waist and the medium with layers under it fits perfect. Very light, wind resistant, and I haven't been run over yet so I'm assuming the reflective patches may have helped. :) Two-way zipper helps when needing to adjust layers or what have you. It breathes well too with a wicking layer under it. Haven't needed the thumb loops because the arms are tapered and stay in place as is. It fits like a custom tailored garment. Very happy with it!

Hard to Imagine!

The Tanglewood Softshell Jacket is well constructed, (especially with its waist draw cords that keep heat in when you want it), beautifully styled, and more importantly, for the cyclist, at least, it is amazingly wind resistant. The material is 3x or 4x's more effective than what you would have expected or hoped. On my first ride down Deer Hill, on a very cold and windy day, I kept wondering what this feeling on my chest was all about. Eventually, I realized it was the wind. Hard to Imagine! Warning! You must wear an insulator underneath on cooler days, like Hyperdry, Powerstretch, Transition, or one, two, or three, if it is very cold. Oh!. The morning dew is forming like little rain drops on my sleeves or is that the rain? It does it all.
