Mountain Hardwear Flip Jacket - Women's
The Mountain Hardwear Women's Flip Jacket zips into compatible Mountain Hardwear shells, and its reversibility gives you twice the options when you wear it as an outer layer. The Flip's Primaloft insulation gives your shell an additional dose of warmth for extremely cold days on the mountain. Its stretchy side and underarm panels provide unrestricted movement. Unique embroidery and a micro chamois-lined collar make this a cute, cozy jacket you'll love to sport at the ski resort or just making the rounds around town.
Bottom Line: Inside-out, outside-in, or inside your shell, the Mountain Hardwear Flip jacket does the trick.

The Flip, although an awesomely styled jacket, was too long for my arms and yet snug through the hips. Also, with the charcoal gray (stretchy) side seams, it was too sporty-looking for what I wanted. I really did like the stitching (I had the Ivory White, which had orange stitching.)

I got this to replace my soft shell, which wasn't warm enough for me. I would have to have too many layers making it difficult to move around. But this jacket keeps me nice and toasty with just 1 layer underneath, even in 15 deg weather. But it is comfy with 2 layers as well, even a thicker fleece under. It keeps me dry as well, even when I tumble down a run instead of skiing down. Lots of pockets (on both sides). And being able coordinate colors with ski pants is an added bonus! Fits true to size. Recommend highly.

This is probably a fantastic jacket, but I returned it because it just didn't fit right and wasn't particularly flattering. The color combination of burgundy and silver/gray reminded me of a snowmobile uni-suit and I hate snowmobiles. That said, I loved the feel of the fabric and the great technical features and I'm sorry it didn't work out.

I got the flip last year and have had it for a year now to comment. For a thing jacket that packs very well into a small pack, it retains an amazing amount of body heat.
I recently had to ride my bike on a windy day with it, and it kept out the wind in ways my usual cycling jacket could not do. It is also very soft under my chin unlike my other jacket.
One thing that bugs me about this jacket (and it's only one thing) is the little knob thing at the back of the neck for cynching up the neck. It sticks up, and if I have my hair up, it snags into the back of my head. It seems to happen more in the "inside" dark side and not the outward blue. However, I find myself wearing the dark side more than the light.
The fit is very snug. I normally wear size 2-4, and and got a size 6 (the previous year's sizing was numbered, this year is s-m-l). It actually fits quite snugly around the hips, so if you want to wear more than a thin sweater underneath, size up. I should also mention that I have virtually no hips and it fits very snugly.
After a full season's wear, there is some pilling along the seams of the embroidery and doesn't look like it's meant for much more than a couple of seasons' wear.
But overall, it's a great little jacket that packs and layers well. If it was more water repellent and had a hood, it would be a dream come true.

Sleek styling, ideal reversible coat that lends itself to all kinds of options. A little bulky for layering, the original reason I purchased it, but great as its own coat. Surprisingly warm, great color, purchased the Helio/Shark version.

I saw this jacket and had to have it. It is very sleek and figure flattering. Got it in the red lava/shark combo. The contrast stitiching really shows up against the red which makes it fun and funky while the reverse side is a great basic black and equally attractive in its own way - i love the reversible feature. I purchased this for cool to colder fall days as I live in a climate where I have to break out the serious down parka in winter. When things run s/m/l I typically take a medium although sometimes a small (and I'd say I'm usually a size 6-8). I was swimming in the medium and the sleeves were long (I'm 5ft 6in), however I don't intend on wearing bulky layers under this. Since this was the case I went with the small which fit with thin/medium clothing underneath and hugged every curve without being restrictive. I LOVE this jacket.
