Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

The Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3 tent has 46 sq ft of floor space, and an additional 20 sq ft of vestibule room, making it Mountain Hardwear's roomiest three-person tent. In addition, the Hammerhead 3 gives you 4.5 feet of interior height. Two large D-shape side doors stay off the ground when open, and are made of mesh no-see-um netting to keep air flowing while halting pests. The ceiling panel rolls back for additional ventilation and communication with the outside world. The roomy vestibule at each door gives you plenty of room to drop shoes and extra gear for when the neighbors come to visit. The Hammerhead 3 sleeps up to 3 people. Combine your tent with the Hammerhead 3 Footprint for maximum protection from the ground.

Bottom Line: Hang the disco ball and invite the neighbors over for an evening of gin rummy in the Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3.

Everything I wanted in a Tent

Love the tent. Agree with a lot of the other reviews, it is a little on the heavy side. And cramped for 3 people but perfect for 2. Easy to set up, easy to take down. The best feature is the zip panels, great for privacy and venting. Great tent.

Great Tent, but A little heavy

This is one of the best tents I have owned. Plenty of room for 2 with gear, 3 without, and when the rain fly is on its like a bomb shelter.

Great tent

I bought this from a thrift store of all places, I was excited about the price, but was nervous about a used tent coming from a river guide service. Even though it was probably hammered, it has been so nice. In the snow it does really nice because the nylon goes up quite a bit to block out wind and the cold. The vestibule is way big, and I like how they designed the inside to sleep 2-3, but then have extra space for gear in the inside. I thought the windows were dorky, but they are actually pretty sweet. Your going to dig this tent, especially when your buying it new.

Sweet dreams motel

By: Julie Buehler (6)

I used this tent this summer on a trek in the Wind River Range and fell in love with it. Not only it well made, but there is enough space to comfortably fit three people. I love the way the windows unzip to allow most of the tent to be mesh allowing you to see the star. The only problems I had were when setting up the tent, clips are difficult to clip into the poles because the tent fabric is so tight. This aside, I still refer to the Hammerhead as the “sweet dreams motel.”

Excellent Value in a Quality Tent

By: John Solovei (1)

Excellent tent—quality materials and construction. The Atlas 7001 poles are lightweight and strong. I used the tent in May, 2006 for a 120-mile canoe trip down the St. John River in northern Maine. Cold temps and three solid days of rain. Set up and take down every day—prety rugged treatment for a tent. It performed flawlessly. It will accommodate two people comfortably—three people would be VERY cozy! The two vestibules are very small as well. I had a problem keeping the fly front taut. I added an adjustable nylon webbing strap which allowed me to tighten the fly at this spot. I called Mountain Hardwear twice about this. I was told that someone from the repair department would return the call. No one called back. The third time I called, I was transferred to someone else who was able to assist. A little annoying. Customer service needs 'tweaking'. Overall, I would buy this tent again, and I recommend it highly.
