Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

The Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 2 tent is perfect for short hikes to camp sites and car camping. The Hammerhead 2's large doors and tall ceiling make multiple trips into and out of the tent quick and painless. The interior height of the tent is a lofty 45", about four inches taller than most other two-person tents, giving you more headroom when you're inside. The two D-shape side doors stay off the ground when open, and are made of mesh no-see-um netting to keep air flowing while halting pests. The ceiling panel rolls back for additional ventilation and communication with the outside world. In addition, there is a vestibule at each door to for added weather protection and storage room. Mountain Hardwear's Atlas Pole system shaves precious ounces off the Hammerhead while keeping it strong and making setup easier with a no-snag connection.

Bottom Line: Sit up fast without feat.

Hammerhead 2

In addition to the previous review: The Hammerhead ventilation is very good and controllable due to the ability to zip up nylon panels. If you camp where it gets cold at night this is very important. The tent is relatively light and packs small for the space and versatility provided. I can set it up completely in less than ten minutes and it's not complicated. It's the best all around tent I've owned in 30 years of camping. The only downside is that eventually the mesh will get holes but that's a given for any tent with mesh.

High Quality

the quality of this tent is remarkable, attention payed to the little details sold me, down to the small hoods above both doors with a stiff seam, that actually protrude the hoods, the extra storage on each side of the tent outside the doors when the fly is on makes for great storage space, my bags, boots, and other misc. supplies made it though the stormy night, without a trace of dampness, another plus is how sturdy the tent is, i was in an open plain and there was no movement at all, with the extra tie downs on the fly, makes for a very sturdy stance, with no flapping of loose materials. the one setback, and i guess it wasn't only me, is that the tent did fill with bugs, which was most likely due to my leaving it open for 4 hours. and the moonroof is an awesome feature and no sleep in the outdoors should go without it, 6 out of 5 stars

GREAT Summer Tent

By: MichaelPDX (4)

I'm a man with a tent for each season & each reason. I picked up a Hammerhead last year to replace an older tent used for general warm weather camping. And its a great one for this purpose. The Hammerhead's unique feature is a huge, zip-out portion of the tent's roof that exposes netting which allows you to stargaze from within a bug-proof shelter, and from within your sleeping bag. Pretty nice to fall asleep to a great view of the stars & milky way on a warm night. When the night air cools down, just zip the thing shut. It then holds heat like any other larger tent. And it is a larger tent, one of its other advantages. For its size, it’s roomy with space for gear and a dog to spread out. The Hammerhead is pretty good against wind. It’s relatively tall, but when staked down -- especially with the fly's extra tie-downs – it’s a secure tent in a desert wind. The one odd, downside of the tent is that insects seem to love the Hammerhead's view, too, and quickly accumulate in the netting. If you mistakenly leave the doors open, you can soon have dozens of mosquitoes, flies or other flying insects buzzing the netting, futilely trying to escape. So keeping the doors closed is important.
