Mountain Hardwear Trango 4 Tent 4-Person 4-Season

The Mountain Hardwear Trango 4 is a socially and environmentally friendly way to camp with several people—this 4-person tent takes up less ground space than most any other 2-person tent combo. Multiple entries make moving four people in and out of the tent flow smoothly—there is a front and a rear door in the tent, and additional vestibule entries. Trango 4's two interior tension shelves, mesh pockets, web hanging loops, and dual gear loft compatibility ensure everyone has plenty of storage space. Mountain Hardwear ensures that this larger mountaineering tent is as stable and strong as smaller versions by using larger diameter (.490 in) poles. UVX windows let you assess outside weather conditions, while enjoying the interior comfort of the Trango 4. Combine the Trango 4 with a rectangular gear loft [MHW0067] and a footprint [MHW0057] to take advantage of every feature.

Bottom Line: Keep your climbing party happy, comfortable, and organized in Mountain Hardwear's Trango 4 tent.

A Very Solid and Reliable Tent

By:
August 5, 2008

I, like the person in the second comment, took this tent to alaska. While he/she was in the Chugach, I was in the southern Talkeetna mountain range, which overlooks the Chucach. Our group had three of the 4-person trangos, and one 3-person trango. We had not one problem! The Tent walls produce a lot of condensation by the time it is morning, but opening the tent doors can stop that. They were very reliable and incredibly sturdy. I recommend this tent for just about any expedition.

Fantastic Tent

By:

I have been using this tent for several years in all conditions and the tent has held up exceptionally well. As far as the above comments, to number 1. & 2. it may have been in design flaw in that particular tent as I have no trouble opening the window and the tent provides great ventilation and I have no problem with the tent and fly doors matching up. As to number 3, I go back country skiing at least 3 times a year and have not had an issue setting up this tent with gloves on. The tent is very easy and fast to setup.

Well made, poor design...

By:
July 8, 2008

I recently performed the first erection (pre-excursion test) of this tent. While it was well made their are 3 things that make it a poor tent. 1, tent doors do not match up to fly doors. 2. Vent/window on top of tent does not open well at all and was virtually useless. 3. the clips that hold the multiple poles together should be small metal carabiners not the plastic/metal mix which will require you to take gloves of to erect tent. I would not recommend this tent to anyone. So far this site standing behind my purchase and have issued me a RMA with no hassles. I will have no reservations ordering from them a replacement.

Solid Tent

By:
March 24, 2008

I recently took the tent out in Oregon and Northern California. I didn't run into to any inclement weather with the tent yet, so I cannot attest to how it holds up in extreme weather. Setting the tent up solo was easy the first time. The door zippers could be improved. The zipper pulls tend to get in the way of each other. The zipper for the vent could have been integrated on the door and not just side by side. Not anything that would deter me from buying the tent again, but could use improvement. The heavy duty pole clips are nice and release with a small squeeze. The two large doors can be fully vented which will be very nice for warm weather camping. I am very happy with the tent overall. The only downer was the price but backcountry beat everywhere I looked.

DO NOT BUY

By:
September 11, 2007

I was on a mountianeering expidition in the Chugach range in Alaska and lived in this tent for 3 months. Out of the 3 tents in our group 12 out of 15 poles broke (even though the tents were cared for and set up with the utmost care). The vestibule is poorly designed (it can not be made fully taught easily-you have to jerry rig it) and the seams have a tendency to rip-plus its about as expensive as you can get AND when we talked to mountain hard wear we were blown off...dont buy this tent, you will regret it.

best tent

By:
March 14, 2007

This tent is absolutely solid. Withstands amazing amounts of weather (if you remember to close the vestibule). Vestibule is big enough to accommodate four people's stuff, and other entrance allows access. Goes up easy, with lots of adjustability. Great features. I could not think of a single thing to improve, oh maybe the price. I mean, it could be free!
