Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

Perfect your vertical performance with the Mountain Hardwear Men's Offwidth Jacket. This softshell contains a dose of elastane as well as underarm gussets, so you'll have a full range of motion while you climb. The TufStretch fabric stands up to rock, ropes, and harnesses and is wind-resistant. Mountain Hardwear treated the Offwidth Jacket with a durable water repellent in case the rain starts falling during your hike out.

Bottom Line: The Offwidth Softshell—for life on the rock and in the mountains.

Great Climbing layer

Great light soft shell. I used for layering while climbing. It has a decent stretch factor so it doesn't restrict arm movements. No insulation, but it's great as a very thing layer to give you a bit of warmth and block out wind.

Excellent shell!

No insulation here, but it does a decent job of keeping the wind and water out, while maintaining great breathability. Besides on hikes, I've actually used it as a shell for my 8 mile bike ride to work in MA in the winter, and it's breathability is superb!

Kudos Mountain Hardwear

Kudos to Mountain Hardwear. Its very athletic in fit and feel. Moves with you, perfect for layering and as an all purpose. Decent at stopping the wind, but by no means a Windstopper. Lined chin is great especially with its extra little extension off of the top of the zip, adjustable cuffs are very nice too. Exactly what I wanted shopping for a lighter, durable, non-lined, versatile jacket. This thing will stand up to anything, and looks sharp too.

Great jacket!

Nice jacket. I bought a medium. I am 6'1" tall/185 lbs.. It fits quite trim/athletic in the torso and is quite short (it ends right at the waistline). This is for easy fit while wearing a harness presumably. The arms are long and not so trim on me (maybe I'm just not "pumped up" enough! ;) I love it!

Good Tweener Jacket

I've had this shell for about a month now and I am very pleased with it. I have used it on several backcountry skiing days ranging from about 20 to 45 degrees and when biking and it has performed well. I typically wear it over 1-2 shirts depending on the temps. It also looks good enough to wear out when going out on the town. I like the athletic cut and the fabric can stretch a bit when needed. I'd say it's just OK on breathability, but I've found that I can unzip the large pockets and they help to shed the heat. The chest pocket is a good spot for my iPod and it does a good job of repelling wind and rain. I'd buy it again.

Great jacket, it keeps me warm in almost every situation if i just put something underneath it. The wind resistance is great and the flexibility is awesome.

Not a bad softshell

Very pleased with this cheaper softshell, although I wish I had gone with The North Face Bionic Apex instead as it has a brushed fleece lining inside where this one has absolutely nothing. It's definitely not a cold weather jacket, there is no interior lining whatsoever. Best thing about it is it's fit, very performance oriented which is close and snug but still manages to not be restrictive. I do not regret buying it, but take a look at The North Face Bionic Apex if you prefer a brushed fleece lining.

This is the best jacket I have ever purchased. It is lightweight and has a cool sleek style. I found this jacket to be very comfortable and breathable. It is great for cold, windy days. Looks great with jeans. I would stongly suggest buying this softshell jacket.

Not bad but small

The jacket appears to be okay, however, the sizing runs a half to full size smaller than most.

Nice Jacket Nice Deal

I've been shopping for a softshell with the features and price that I wanted for over a year. This is a rock solid, reasonably lightweight jacket that can cross over from climbing, running, cycling, and just sporting around town. It’s really water resistant, and stops a reasonable amount of wind for its exceptional breathability. No insulation—the way I like it. High intensity work outs are "no sweat". If it gets cold just add a layer underneath. The jacket stretches just the right amount, has a trip fit, and doesn’t ride up when reaching overhead. Buy this jacket!

Great Jacket

By: Anonymous(1)
February 22, 2006

I bought this jacket for my husband as a non-tech jacket. He has other jackets that he wears for training, but since they are always in the running closet or on the drying rack, they are rarely in any condition to throw on over clean clothes. I was tired of him throwing on some cheap fleece to wear around while leaving his $100+ and $200+ softshells at home (albeit sweaty). As a result, I can only comment on the jacket from that standpoint. He's never run in it. I like the fact that it is windproof, yet very lightweight. Driving around in the car, he doesn't feel like he has on some big bulky outerwear, yet the jacket does a great job of shielding you from the wind and chill when outdoors. The pockets are great; the material is super and the fit is just right, it’s slim looking, yet roomy enough to fit over layers. If he were going to run in this, I'm sure he would be wanting pitzips, etc. The smooth fabric looks great, wipes off easily and yet somehow avoids that rubbery feel that so many softshells seem to have. All in all, I'd highly recommend this jacket, for the purpose I bought it for. I like the dark green color of the one I got. It looks great with jeans and/or black sweats on the way to the gym. I think the black would look great with jeans, but then would look dorky with black sweats, too "outfitty." It may be a great running jacket too, but he hasn't used it for that. I do suspect, though, that anything this windproof would need to have more venting to be a great running jacket.

A little light.

A well made jacket, with nice athletic fit. It offers good wind resistance and water repellency, but a little light in the insulation department. It’s more of a softshell shell and not much else. Good for a cool day or night but that’s about it.
