Mountain Hardwear Banshee SL Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

When the wind is howling up in the high peaks, the Mountain Hardwear Banshee SL howls back. 800-fill down in tightly spaced, welded baffles won't shift around, and thanks to Conduit SL laminate it won't get soaked either. A down-filled face gasket seals the warm and cold on their sides of the wall, aided by an ergonomic draft collar. Because it's down the Banshee packs down incredible small, and thanks to conduit laminate wet and unpredictable mountain weather isn't a concern.

Bottom Line: The trouble comes when you don't want to get out of the bag.

Great Bag

I used this camping at 10,000 feet and about 20 degrees. It keep me nice and warm below 0, I was surprised. It is very well made. The Conduit SL kept me nice and dry as well. I highly recommend it.

Is the outer fabric WATERPROOF? I am heading on a Kathmandu to Annapurna base camp trek in October and want the down to stay dry for three weeks...is this the bag for me?

Yes, the shell is waterproof thanks to the Conduit SL material. This Exped bag is also very, very waterproof:

Keep in mind that waterproofing is a loaded question. You sweat in your sleep (we all do), and even if the outer shell is waterproof, you can still potentially get the down wet.

Good So Far

I used the Banshee SL on a night when the temperature got down to about 30F with high winds and rain in a Bibler Bivy. The sleeping bag was definitely warm enough, but I have yet to test it to its theoretical limit. Nice design though and comfortable.

Kept me warm

By:
March 19, 2006

I am always cold, so I bought this zero-degree bag for snow camping in the Sierras. The overnight low was probably -15F. The Banshee SL kept me warm and dry, even though I dragged it through quite a bit of snow in our snow cave.
