Mountain Hardwear Defiant Pant - Men's

These are great pants that can do it all! Snowboarding/skiing, snowshoeing, mountaineering ect... The only down side for me is the legs are a little long... Every pair of mountain hardware paints I have are like that though... Weather protection is great in snow, wind and rain! I love em!

I skied a couple of days in the powder at Wolf Creek, CO with these pants. I'm satisfied with my purchase. However, I am 6'1" and the suspenders are fully extended, so a taller person might have trouble. Also, my inseam is 34" and the pants are just a little long. If your first day using these will be on a snowy day, practice putting on the gaiters at home so you can do it quickly.

I absolutely love these pants. In fact, these are my second pair - not because there's any problem with the first pair - just so I'd have two pair to wear on a weeklong trip. Durability - Extremely durable. No problems to note. Moisture Resistance / Wicking - I've never worn them in the rain, but they are absolutely water tight sitting on the snow for short periods of time. They must wick moisture away pretty well too. I've never noticed them to be wet when I take them off (and I do sweat when I ski). Convenience - I absolutely love the full length zippers on both legs. SO much nicer getting into and out of ski boots. Pants pockets are fine and front zipper is adequate. Warmth - All I wear under these pants is a pair of Smartwool Boot Top Bottoms (absolutely love Smartwool). I've never been cold down to below zero Fahrenheit wind chills. Fit - I'm a snug 38 / 32 and purchased a large. The length is perfect, although the waist and butt are slightly snug. I didn't find that these pants affected my mobility though. If you're a 38 waist and the type to wear jeans under these, I'd go with a larger size. I don't so fit wasn't a problem. Great Pants!

i've worn these now about 5 days since i purchased them a month ago, and so far they've been great. i've skied on very cold days and they were warm, comfortable, and fit great. i was originally worried about other reviews that spoke about no button in the front of the pants making it hard to put them on, but the zipper on the side along with the hook and loop on your hip open (sort of like some women's dress pants/mom jeans) and it's no problem. i definitely recommend these.

I wear a 34 waist and 36 long pant and a 34L in these pants fit perfectly. The gaiter comes down far enough to block out snow and slush and the full length zip should be standard on all pants. I can't imagine getting ski/snow pants without that now. They fit so well and protect so well I had forgotten that I had them on until I went to the lodge at the end of the day. I hope they last for years or hopefully I'll be able to find something just as great when and if they need to be replaced. Highly recommended for long-legged snow beasts.

I use these pants only for resort skiing and with lightweight fleece pants or mid-weight thermals under them, it's very warm. I have an inseam of 30" and the size small in a short length fits me well. The regular length is a bit too long. Construction and materials are impeccable. These are really well-made pants. The only things I don't like are that the pants do not open at the waist and the suspenders are almost too short for me even at their longest setting (I am 5'9"). As a result, I usually just wear the pants without the suspenders. Overall, a good product that was for me almost perfect.

I ordered size XL. They fit well, as I am 6' 1" with 38 w x 32 l. The waste is adjustable were the closures meet on the sides. The unique suspenders are a little short, but adjusted to full length are OK for me. They certainly won't slip off like my old pair of pants. Being a Telemark skier, good suspender are a must. Haven't actually worn them on the mountain....maybe then I can make them a 5!

I returned these pants because I didn't like the fit or materials. I usually wear a Men's M comfortably. These were tight at the waist and rode up, uncomfortably high in the crotch, if you take my meaning. Probably a Large would've fit better, but have been long in the leg. Better fit for a tall/slim figure. The suspender straps were uncomfortable. All four attachments are in the front, go over the shoulder and wrap back around. Finally, I didn't love the feel of the mesh. I'd say try before you buy. If the pant fits you and you like the mesh, go with it.

I liked the pants. Compared to other similar pants from other companies I chose these because of their aggressive pricing. Also, these pants come in a Long which is not that common. I gave them a 5 because of the bang for my buck and the uniqueness of the Long sizing. They don't have the Kevlar reinforced ankles like some of the other brands, which is a bummer, but again these were a lot cheaper. I used these for 3 full days of skiing and didn't have any trouble with edges cutting the material, but who knows if I would have been as lucky had I been wearing my crampons. The one thing that was a little weird is that the pants don't unsnap/unbutton at the waist line. Not sure if this is normal or not, but it makes it hard to put these on over bulky underlayers, as the underlayers get caught up in the elastic waistline (I am not talking about long underwear as these would be fine, but rather sweatpants or jeans). Oh and if I gain much weight its going to be hard to fit into these because of the non-opening waistline. People with a large behind should not order too small or you will find it difficult to pull these over your rear end. I typically wear a 33 waist and a 36 length. I ordered a M-Long and they fit me pretty good. Again if I gain some weight I will have trouble at the waist.

I think my title pretty much covers it. Even though these pants are thin, wear them with a base layer and they are plenty warm and dry.

I live in Salida Colorado and i'm an avid telemark skiier. These are by far the best ski pants I have ever owned. Very warm, windproof and waterproof. Hats off to Mountain Hardware.

I bought these pants to complement my exposure II parka and to use primarily for snowboarding with the occasional trip into the backcountry. The sizing options allowed me to choose a pair of pants that fit really well. They were very easy to slip in and out of with the full zip legs and I especially like the suspenders that are included. I have had limited use with them among the elements but from a comfort standard they are ten times better than the burton pants that I previously owned. Knowing the level of performance that I have become accustom to with all my other moutain hardwear gear I don't expect to be disappointed.

Great fit with full-zips for ventilation. Articulation is nice for Tele-skiing and hopping the rails. Mountain Hardwear comes through with another great product!

I've been skiing this pant at 3 areas this season, and so far, they've lived up to their billing. Mountain Hardware has developed some great, affordable gear, and the Definat pant is on this list. Excellent fit over the boot (I wear a size 28) with room to spare, the full length zip is handy , and the pockets are roomy.

I wore these pants on a recent climb of Mt Baker and Mt Adams. In a combination of rain, snow and slush, the pants were perfect, repelling all the elements. I had a pair of mid-weight bottoms underneath for the cold and the combination worked perfectly. I had trouble ordering these pants and this site was the only dealer that could get me a decent delivery on my size. I highly recommend the Defiant Pants.

The Mountain Hardwear Defiant Pants were great. I wore them right out of the box snowboarding in Utah this March. They performed great and were surprisingly warm for a shell pant. They have side zippers that run the full length of the pant for getting in and out of them easily, but sometimes you grab this zipper when you want to grab the pocket zipper which can be a little annoying. After nearly dropping your pants in 20F weather a few times you remember to make sure you grab the correct zipper. Other than that they were awesome.

Great pant and the versatility between resort and backcountry is right on. I hiked peaks in 50mph winds with just thin base layer and was plenty warm and dry. Disappointing features are the non-opening waist band (there is a fly zipper) and I also found the pant to bunch quite a bit around the knee area.

I've used these pants about 10 times in the past month. 7 resort days and 3 backcountry days. Things I like: they keep me dry (even during this exceptional year in the Colorado backcountry where waste shots are the norm), they're stylish, they double up good for both area skiing and backcountry days. The full zips are key for the backcountry. Things I don't like: they are kind of light for cold resort days, I wish they made a medium in a short length - I was forced to get the small which are ok on length, but are tighter than preferred around the butt and quads. Mt. hardware is a good company. Unfortunately the pant buckle came unsowed during a backcountry run. I overnighted them on Tuesday to their repair shop and I got them back on Thursday - just in time for a trip to steamboat. They were on top of it for sure. Good all around pant.

Everything about these pants is on the mark. The double closures on the side ensure that they stay securely fastened. The zips up the sides allow me to put them on/take them off over my boots and the zip in the front...well, now I don't have to undo everything and fumble with all of my clothes when I need to make room for more beer.

The water and windproofing on these pants is exceptional. I skied in the rain today, and was pleasantly dry. My biggest complaint is the "articulated" knees need more articulation; they bag out on the sides when I'm in ski boots. The elastic suspenders work well to keep them up without having to cinch them around my waist.
