Mountain Hardwear Convertible Pack Pant - Men's

Unquestionably the very best hiking pants I have ever seen or used. Durable, quick-drying and designed for the most serious long term hike. The rear pockets alone justify the expense of the pants. The rear slash pockets are easily accessed while wearing a pack and they can carry an abundance of items.

I have owned a pair of these for at least 7 year now and the original pair of non convertible pants have just reached the point were they are going to be relegated to working on the car. These pants have been worn most of that time as any kind of travel or climbing that occurred. I was disappointed to find that Mountain Hardwear only offers the Convertible versions now. I did however order a pair and while I will doubtfully use the zip off legs I do find them well made and just as comfortable as the originals. I do like the new style belt. All in all these get the Two Thumbs WAY up rating. Pete

These pants look great but they're a little too tight for me. I have not used them and instead went with my TNF paramount converts. I like my pants a little loose when hiking.

If you're tall (inseam >34) and average build (men's waist 36-38) you should forget looking here. Is every one short and heavy in America? No complaint on merchandise; it look and feels great. I would have bought these pants if they were "close" to my body frame size. Manufactures should modernized their clothing line for taller people (men and women). My girl friend has the same complaint in women sizes. Two more inches in the legs would make a big difference for many buyers.

If you are looking for a pair of pants which are comfortable, but will take a beating...look no further! Not sure how Mountain Hardware did it, but these pants are awesome. I was snowshoeing with a friend, when we decided it would be faster to bag the peak (San Jacinto) without snow shoes. As I was walking past the top of 10 foot boulder peaking through the top of the snow, I broke though the snow at the edge of the bolder and my leg ground into the weather worn granite. When I pulled my leg out the pants did not show any signs of damage, but when I pulled the pant leg up, complete chunks of flesh were missing above my shin bone. From the desert to the mountains, these are the pants you want!

these pants will take a liking and keep on ticking. Great pants, nicely cut, and the front zippered security pocket is perfect for leaving the emergency $100 when traveling. All backed up by Mountain Hardwear's excellent warranty service. A+

I've used almost every brand of convertible pants out there from cloudveil to mammut to columbia. These are by far the most weather-proof, comfortable, and convenient (with intelligently placed pockets) I've worn. Well worth the money.

I wore this shirt 24 hours a day for a six-day backpacking trip and it didn't smell. Pretty much all you need to know! If I wear a normal synthetic I will smell it up in an afternoon. I wore it this much because I needed it for cold nights and wanted the long sleeves to keep sun off during the day. The shirt was also very, very lightweight and comfortable. Be sure to get a big enough size as they run small.

A little tight for my liking. I prefer hiking clothes to be a more loose fit. However, they are functional and have served me well on three long day hikes 9+ hours through elevation. Side pockets are deep and roomy can hold a water bottle. Nice though these pants are, I own a pair of similar The North Face pants that are roomier and with more pockets and storage. Probably would go that direction in the future.

I've had my pants for about four years now. I've worn them for two trips on the JMT, a couple of Yosemite trips, Joshua Tree, and multiple trips in the San Rafel wilderness. No other pant comes close to the comfort and well thought out design. Only sign of wear is in some of the stitching where the butt meets the granite. Well worth the price.

Among other hikes, I just wore these on a November climb to 14,000ft mountain in Colorado. I took off my thin poly bottoms because it was too warm during ascent in temps near freezing. I postholed through snow (in gaiters) up to my hips at times, sat on rough rock and snow, and winds up to 50 or so blew spindrift. With wind chill it was probably down to 0F or less. My legs were never cold or clammy wet while I was moving. Any soaking of water or melted snow seems to evaporate quickly. The fabric has held up well to this punishing alpinism, showing little if any abrasion. Highly recommended for a 3.5 season pant.

These are tuough but comfortable convertibles. I will be purchasing another pair for my travels.

Depending on weather conditions they may be a little heavy, but on chilly days they are great. Big pockets but I miss more zippered pockets.

These pants are worth every cent! The synthetic chamois lining is heavenly, and the construction/fabric are made to last. This site is also the bomb! Super fast shipping, and excellent customer service. Two thumbs up!

I own two pair of these pants, albeit of the non-convertible variety, and they're the best pants I've ever worn. The fabric is pretty burly, but by no means uncomfortable against the skin. It's stood up barbed and sharp terrors on a construction site and all over the backcountry. Pair it up with a base layer underneath, and the whole deal does a fine job of beating back the wind. The chamois lining around the hips feels pretty decadent, adds appreciated padding when in a harness, and just makes these comfortable pants more so. The only problem I've had wearing these pants is that for the first month I had the first pair, they tended to rotate counterclockwise around my waist (none too fun, I assure you). For whatever reason, the problem stopped, and the second pair never gave me any problems. The price is steep, but if you can find them on sale, they'll last forever.
