Metolius Super Chalk Eco Ball

The Metolius Super Chalk Eco Ball uses colored chalk to reduce trace on the rock. No more slap marks, no more white holds, no more spilled chalk piles. If you care about the rock you climb on and want to reduce the chance of access issues, you should drop the Metolius Super Chalk Eco Ball into your chalk bag.

Bottom Line: Leave less trace when you climb with the Metolius Super Chalk Eco Ball.

not for me

feels like little styrafoam balls, really weird compared to normal chalk, works great at keeping my hands dry but doesnt last very long at all so i seem to use more. i do like how you cant see a trace on the rock after using it though, but i would stick with regular chalk unless you have a secret problem you dont want people finding haha.

so what is the desiccant used in the eco ball and how does it...

Flag

As I understand, it is the same chalk which is dyed so it blends in better with the rock. It is considered "eco" because it comes in a ball, and the ball causes you use less chalk because you only get chalk on the parts of the hand it touches. You also waste a lot less when you accidentally drop your bag. (no more white piles at the crag)

Good alternative to regular chalk

This stuff is great for climbing in areas with strict no chalk rules. It doesn't seem to keep your hands as dry as black diamond's chalk but it works well enough.

Eco Ball better than chalk for me

I like this stuff--I have never been an over-chalker, this dries my tips out just right. I climb a lot of sandstone FWIW, and it sticks well without the dust and discoloration of the rick!

Great stuff

I switched to the Eco Ball initially because I liked the idea of having dry hands but not marking up the rock. It's great for that but even better, I found it does a much better job of drying my hands and not caking onto to my fingers like normal loose chalk or a standard chalk ball. I now have a hard time climbing with normal chalk as my hands never feel as dry and clean as they do when I use the Eco Ball. The only downside to the Eco Ball is that it seems to deplete faster than a standard chalk ball. But that's certainly not enough to keep me from buying Eco Ball after Eco Ball.

Eco Ball

I love the idea, but the product is awful. I used this wall gym climbing and fell off an easy route when I couldn't grip anything. I switched back to regular chalk and climbed the route no problem. If you have sweaty hands don't waste your money on the eco ball.

Hate it! I gave this ball away after one use, I like the idea but I hate the product. Just carry water with you to remove chalk marks from the rocks!

Eco Ball

The Eco ball works great and leaves no trace so the adventure is there for other climbers. Only problem I had was finding the actual ingredients in the eco ball to figure out if there was anything that would cause it to stick to the rock and not wash off.

I love this stuff! I've used a number of different chalks and they all seem to cake up on my hands, and all over the rock. This eco chalk dries any sweat without gumming up my hands. Plus I've used it on granite, limestone, sandstone, and conglomerate and it doesn't leave any trace!!! Great stuff!
