Merrell Chameleon Hex Sport Hiking Shoe - Men's - 2008
Whether you need a durable shoe for long-distance trip or you need a vented shoe for hot summer days, the Merrell Men's Chameleon Hex Sport Hiking Shoe delivers. Mesh uppers include beefy leather trim to keep them from getting trashed when you head to the really agro trails. Vibram Chameleon Speed outsoles keep you on your feet no matter how wet or loose the dirt gets. Thanks to Merrell, you no longer need a quiver of footwear to take on different trails.
Bottom Line: For any trail out there.

I bought this shoe about 6mo ago, during the break in period the shoe felt binding and tight around the ankle, but after the shoe molded to my feet it felt like wearing socks around, so comfortable i wear them all the time even when not on the trail. very good for trail hiking but not to good when you want to get off of the beaten path and have to step on rocks of stream beds the sole isnt quite stiff enough and flexed over the rocks, but the grip was still good. very breathable and comfortable enough to wear everyday, i have a very wide foot (4E) and i wear a 10.5 and this shoe once broken in fits perfectly. highly recommend.
Can also work as running shoes? I intend to take part in a trail
Can also work as running shoes? I intend to take part in a trail competition (25Km) and there are lots of flat segments for running. I intend to do the trail in running shoes but this merrell got my attention.

td,I would NOT recommend using this Merrell for a trail running shoe. It is very comfortable for walking but the laces tend to slip and it does not roll off the heel that easily. Check out the trail specific shoes http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/162/Mens-Trail-Run-Sh

Mine are a different color, but totally the same otherwise. Fantastic shoe for light hiking. The toungless neoprene like liner is really nice. They fit very snugly and hug your foot very evenly so you don't have to crank down the laces to keep the shoe from moving around on your foot. And that means no blisters or sore spots and a very stable walking platform. The sole has great traction and padding to keep your heels from getting tired. Decent ventilation to keep your feet from getting smelly, but not as good as a mesh upper shoe. Because of the foot hugging upper though, you pretty much NEVER get small rocks or other foot irritants inside. The only negative thing about this shoe is the snugness gets a little confining after a long day. You don't really notice it while you've got the shoe on, but they feel really good to take off! Another great shoe from Merrell!

I bought these shoes to replace another pair of Merrells, and in fact this makes my third pair of Merrells. I am very happy with the appearance, fit, and comfort of these shoes, and if they are anything like my last two pairs, I know the quality is commendable as well. I work overseas and do a tremendous amount of walking, and cheap shoes just don't cut it. These give me the support and comfort I need, and hold up to the abuse I put them through. I really recommend these. This model actually has orthopedic foam insoles, and they are really good.
