Marmot Motion Jacket - Men's
Built for fast-moving days in the hills, the Marmot Men's Motion Jacket provides wind protection and water resistance for anything from a trail run to long-distance backpacking trip. This 16oz jacket packs into its own chest pocket for easy storage during clear weather. Marmot's Angel-Wing Movement keeps the Motion Jacket from riding up even if your backpacking trip involves some scrambling or easy rock climbing.
Bottom Line: A big day on the trail calls for the Marmot Motion Jacket.

Marmot Motion Jacket

This is a trail runners dream. A no frills jacket that is light but solid. The fabric is thin, so I wouldn't go bushwacking in any pine snags, but for running and cycling, this coat does the job. Wind doesn't get in, and rain beads up and drips off. Sizing is right on, I usually wear large, and thought about ordering down to keep the coat snug on my bike, but the large fits perfectly, no flapping. The chest pocket is a good size, thought I can't think what I would want to put in it other than my ipod. Great jacket!

So....what's the difference between this jacket & the Marmot Ion? (I can read, so obviously one has a hood and one doesn't; one has a front pocket and one a rear; etc.) But why have 2 wind shirt/jackets that are so similar? Am I missing something here?

Why does Colgate make 50 types of toothbrushes? It's also similar to the Rush jacket. I'm assuming they are banking on a slightly different design/color scheme to boost sales. But I'm also just bitter that the big outdoor suppliers are selling out : )

The Ion and Motion are both great super light windshirts. The only difference is hood versus no hood and the color blocking. The simple reason for 2 styles is some people want a hood and some don't. The Rush is a full rain jacket (waterproof/breathable fabric and taped seams) while the Ion and Motion are just water repellent and windproof. Both have a front chest pocket.

Pros: Super lightweight material that repels wind and moisture to a fair degree and has an athletic fit. Cons: It doesn't seem to breathe very well keeping moisture in as much as it does out. Secondly, this jacket has minimal reflectivity (upper sleeves and a tiny logo mid upper back). I run in the evenings and as it gets dark it becomes important to be seen. Adequate jacket, not great....
