Marmot Oracle Jacket - Men's

I've had my Marmot Oracle for a few years now, and it has kept me dry more times than I can count. I wear it while commuting by bike in heavy rain (on trips no more than 10 minutes long) and during short rainfalls while canoing and backpacking. I love how light and packable it is - I can throw it in my backpack or messenger bag when it isn't needed and completely forget about it. I wish it could stuff into one of its own pockets, but I've ended up using a separate stuff sack and have had no problems. I will finally be upgrading from the Oracle due to an unpleasant experience I had last summer. While backpacking in the Smokies, the heavens opened up and we faced a complete downpour during an 8-mile exit hike. This is the only time the Oracle failed to keep me dry, but was by far the longest I had tested it in heavy rain. I think for my next jacket I will look for something with a Gore-Tex membrane to keep me dry. If you are on a somewhat restricted budget and aren't planning on being in rainstorms for hours on end, this jacket will treat you well. However, if you are like me, and prefer a bit more protection, I'd recommend spending a little more dough and hopping on the Gore-Tex bandwagon.

I wanted to buy a breathable waterproof jacket without forking over so much money for the ones with GTX tag, and a friend recommended I check out marmot oracle. I've never heard of the marmot brand before, but after reading many good reviews on the jacket and given this site's return policy, I decided to get it. I bought a black M - I'm 5'9" 165 lbs 31" waist - and it fits perfectly. Not too snug, enough room to put a baselayer (i.e. a fleece jacket), and not too baggy either. I've worn it in rain and it's kept me completely dry - mind you, I've never worn it in a pouring rain, so I can't say that it'll work like a charm in any type of raining circumstance. Also, I've worn it for all of my snowboarding trips this year - Mammoth and all the local mountains in la - and it has kept me dry and light. I'd say the biggest drawback would be that it's not as breathable as i'd like. Also the zippers on pit vents aren't too smooth to zip up or down. It takes some effort to open/close them.

Very disappointed in this jacket. I've worn it twice in rain and ended up wetter on the inside than on the outside. No matter how you attempt to vent the jacket it just suffers from extreme condensation on the inner surface.

After reading some good reviews on the Marmot Oracle Men's Jacket, I bought one in medium size and Fire/Lava color. It has worked up to my expectation, and I am very happy with it. The jacket is light weighted, looks good and fit perfectly. I wore it on a recent hiking trip to the Mt. Baden_Powell via Islip with only a Columbia Titanium Nylon shirt as my underwear. The winds was honorable and the temperature on the north side of the mountains was only 36 degree. Lots of ice flakes fell down to trial. However, the Oracle jacket was highly wind-resistant, and it kept me warm and comfortable all day long. I strongly recommend it!

Buying this jacket for a move to South Korea (Monsoon country) was my first experience with both Marmot and this site. With the Oracle's performance and BC's service I'm sold on both. Because SK has a hot, wet season, what I really needed was a jacket that would keep me warm while shedding as much heat as possible, and the Oracle does that. When Winter comes I'll wear it over my TNF Denali fleece. Warning: Please be aware that this jacket isn't supposed to be warm at all, and it's not. If your day trip turns into an chilly overnighter, you'll need another layer to keep you warm.

I am a huge fan of jackets, I can never seem to find one that does all that I want. I was proven wrong once I purchased the Oracle. It works perfectly in conditions such as the UP of Michigan, where one day it is sunny, the next it rains, and the next it snows. When it is sunny out, the Oracle packs very small, is lightweight, and you forget about it easily. When it rains, this jacket does not get clammy, allows you to vent/breathe easily, and keeps you 100% dry. On the final day when it snows, this jacket has a perfect cut which allows a base layer+fleece/softshell to fit perfectly underneath, keeping you dry and warm. The cut of the jacket isn't to big that without layers it looks baggy, but doesn't feel too tight when you are layering up. I could not be happier with this purchase. I got the fire/lava combination and it matches well with my "real red" Marmot gravity softshell and "indigo blue" Marmot Kaba fleece. What can I say, I'm in love with Marmot products!
