Marmot Northshore Jacket - Men's

The Marmot Northshore jacket is perfectly acclimated to the Northwest's weather—not only is it perfectly waterproof, but it's warm and cozy as well. We wish Northshore was a reference to Hawaii's sunny beaches, but unfortunately, it applies to the gray Northwest. Two jackets in one, the Northshore takes Marmot's waterproof PreCip shell and adds a removable mid-weight fleece liner. A full hood and taped seams keep you fully protected from gails and downpours. Should things heat up, pit zips will keep air flowing, the liner zips out easily, and the hood rolls easily into the collar. Wear the full-meal deal for skiing mid-winter, and wear just the shell when the sun returns in the spring.

Bottom Line: Stand on Vancouver's North Shore in Marmot's Northshore, and feel like your standing on Hawaii's North Shore.

Northshore is nice

This jacket has been great. I have not had a chance to test it in wet and cold weather but in the cold it keeps you warm. I did wear it one afternoon when it was trying to snow and it was warm. Mid 20's and windy and it kept me nice and warm. I really like the pitzips even on the fleece! I ordered XL and I normally wear a large so I could layer underneath it. I would order a size larger than normal if you plan on layering and want the extra room. The shell feels lightweight but will see how well it wears so far it has been great. Would buy again! This is my first Marmot waterproof shell and am a big fan so far!!

How packable is the shell?

How packable is the shell?

This shell isn't going to be that packable. It is going to weigh 2lb 7oz which should help with an idea of how packable it will be. This is going to be your proper ski jacket, it has a fleece lining as well. The fleece lining is also removable which will take some of the weight of making it a little bit more packable but all in all this isn't going to be a ultra light jacket that you can really pack down. Take a look at Arc'teryx for more packable jackets.

Best Jacket I've owned

By: A. Graff(1)

I live in Chicago. For those who don't know what this means, it's high winds, lots of snow, and COLD COLD COLD. I highly recommend this jacket. This has become my winter jacket when facing the snowy, windy, Chicago cold. I have gone outside with this jacket with a base layer of only a t-shirt and been fine when it was 18 degrees. A great buy

Whats happened to Marmot?

This used to be a pretty good company. But the last few things I've bought from them are absolute junk. There are WAY to many good companies out there still to be buying stuff from marmot.I don;t what happened to these guys, they've DEFINITELY lost their mojo.

I just used the outer shell with a shoft shell for touring. It worked great, kept out the wind and snow and didn't lock in sweat. As for the ripping problem , I bashed into some pines and shrubs on the way up and down and had no rips. Now that I'm not using it for touring I put the fleace back in and its a great around towner. This jacket is what is inexpensive.

loved the jacket

i bought this jacket for my husband for Christmas and he's had nothing but good things to say about it. it keeps him warm in the wind and the snow, but it is also light weight and highly breathable (lots of ventilation zippers). its ability to double as a warm winter coat and also as a spring jacket (because you can unzip the fleece liner) is also a plus.

Nice light shell

I like the weight of the nNrthshore shell, by itself it makes a great light weight rain jacket and layered with the fleece it's warm and toasty. Obviously, it's not a snowboard jacket, but an awesome all around jacket.

Marmot is NOT "FOR LIFE"

By: Jonathon(1)
October 23, 2006

This jacket is useless to anyone besides a soccer mom, and Marmot's customer service was worthless. On a normal hiking trail in Tennessee, I brushed a limb or two and it ripped in 2 places, and now every time I wash it the rip is wider. Now after several washes AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS, the PreCip lining is cracking and leaking in the rain. Shipped it to Marmot customer service ON MY TAB, and they shipped it right back to me without fixing it and said it be a ton of money to replace 3 panels. So much for standing behind your product. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MARMOT PRODUCT AS LONG AS I LIVE!

Sheer Quality

I wanted to purchase a waterproof jacket with a zip in fleece liner. The day it arrived it was raining. The next couple of days it was chilly. Today it is chilly and raining. Flawless in each instance. I have never enjoyed cold or rainy, or cold and rainy, days as much. First class equipment here.

not a strong jacket

By: Tim the Painter(2)

This jacket is very waterproof and the fleece is very warm. However, it is most definitely not to be used for snowboarding. That is, if you like to bomb through the trees. I brushed against a few trees at Wolf Creek, CO and the jacket tore in two places without so much as a whisper. My buddy saw it at the end of the day and pointed it out. Cut through the ripstop nylon like butter. Great three-season camp jacket, stay away from trees and or anything remotely snagging.

Northshore Jacket

By: JT Brown(3)
January 29, 2006

Great fit (not too long or short) great materials (best zippers, fleece, and outer shell). The way the fleece liner lies inside the jacket is top notch and enhances the look and feel. Sewn in Vietnam, on only very close inspection not all seams are straight. It’s a little heavy for packing but perfect for around town whether business or casual. It would also make an excellent slope jacket if I still did that sort thing. The biggest complaint I have is the fleece material itself. If you have dry hands (and who doesn't in the winter) or are wearing wool, it is difficult to thread your hand and arms through the fleece arm of the jacket when the fleece is in place. It really should have a ripstop nylon arm lining in the fleece.
