Marmot Oracle Pant - Women's

The Marmot Oracle pant is a great ski or riding pant if you find yourself hiking the backcountry as often as you make inbounds laps. This lightweight, super breathable, stretchy pant comes with removable, adjustable suspenders. The bum and knees are reinforced, and feature a stretch PreCip fabric that allows for easy movement when you're hiking or dropping your knee. The Oracle is 100% seam taped and built with Marmot's incredibly water and windproof Precip Plus fabric, so you'll stay dry through the wettest Northwest winter. Full side zips give you plenty of ventilation options for spring hikes. An instep scuff guard keeps your pants protected from your boots and ski edges so they remain shred-free all season.

Bottom Line: Wear the Oracle, and you'll have a predictably incredible winter.

Not for Mountaineering!!!

By:
May 17, 2008

I am reviewing the women's pants since the men's is not up on this site. I completed a month and a half of sea kayaking and mountaineering in Chilean Patagonia from March through mid-April. I am normally very pleased with all of my Marmot gear, but these were useless to me. One of the recommended uses on the Marmot website is mountaineering but the fabric is not tough enough to deal with any serious hiking or mountaineering. These pants tore open with ever small slip while climbing over moraine. I am not talking about major falls where I would expect most fabrics to tear, but normal slips that always happen while climbing over slippery rocks. They also tore numerous times while bushwacking through trees and scrub. After several in-field repair jobs, I gave up and resigned myself to being wet - and carrying around a useless piece of gear for weeks. They would probably be fine for normal hiking on well maintained trails, but they are not tough enough for serious pursuits. Bottomline: do not buy these if you are considering any serious hiking or mountaineering. Marmot should be embarrassed for even suggesting that these would be appropriate for mountaineering.

Nice basic pant

These pants are a perfect waterproof pant. Marmot's material and seam-taping make them perfect for rain or snow. Using them with a light under layer is perfect for cross country skiing. They do fit SMALL. I wear small in most other brands but their small was a little tight with my long underwear.
