La Sportiva Exum River Canyoneering Shoe

Make sure you're wearing the La Sportiva Exum River Canyoneering Shoes for trips where an “easy stretch” means waist-deep water and, luckily, all your gear is in dry bags. These burly shoes are built from the ground up to offer you excellent support and traction whether you're hiking along a dry river bottom or crossing a strong current with spotters at the ready. Exum River Canyoneering Shoes have FriXion XF soles to provide supreme traction on wet rock and a removable TPU instep to assure that they don't get ripped off when the current is pulling hard.

Bottom Line: Stay on your feet with the La Sportiva Exum River Canyoneering Shoes, even when they're four-feet under the water.

Great shoe, bad strap

By:
September 12, 2008

I bought these for an everything shoe: canyoneer, hike, ultimate frisbee, etc. The shoe fits my narrow foot well, the rubber is super sticky, and they drain very well. I've been on a couple hikes, a backpack trip, and one canyon. My one complaint is that after limited use, 2 of the plastic pieces that hold in the strap snapped. Seems like the plastic should be beefed up. Straps aren't needed unless in thick mud or strong current. Other than that the uppers seem really tough.

Awesome Canyoneering Shoes!

By:

These shoes delivered grip and comfort by the bucket! I used them for the first time in Zion's Subway Slot Canyon. They gripped on wet and dry stone alike, down the loose approach trail, through streams and waterfalls. Only slimy green algae could defeat them so no surprise there. The shoes were on my feet for about 9 hours with no blisters, shin splints or discomfort at all. I wore regular socks on the approach and neoprene "warmers" in the water. A lot of bang for the buck and they don't look any worse after their first trip; no fraying or discoloring.

Awesome... if you have narrow feet!

By:

I tried two pairs of these shoes (44 & 45, I normally wear 44). Both times, I stuck to the canyons like no one else. Amazing traction. Great venting so my feet dried quickly. But dang, my feet HURT in these shoes and I don't have thaaat wide feet! These shoes are really narrow. So I agree with everything the other reviewers said, and now I'm hoping LaSportiva comes out with wider versions!

Canyoneering

I was torn between the 5.10 and the La Sportivas. I went with the La Sportivas and loved them. We did 2 Utah slot canyons in 2 days and the shoes exceeded my expectations. They were comfortable, excellent traction on wet slick rock and worked great in a little climb we had to do.

Best In the water

These shoes performed better than I ever expected. Climbing up wet rocks and jumping off cliffs, great while swimming. They're like flippers on your feet. superb when climbing out of the water up slippery rocks. I wish the soles had a bit more padding, but it makes up for it in swimming capability.

Very pleased

I bought these shoes for a canyoneering trip to Moab that I took last weekend. I took them on a route through Fiery Furnace and then up to the top of Elephant Butte. The next day, we did a long hike past Corona Arch and then up a neighboring canyon. Overall, I'm very happy with these shoes. They are as comfortable to hike in as any trail running shoe and they shed water quickly, as a proper canyoneering shoe should. The downside? The rubber compound does not seem well-suited to temperatures below about 45 degrees. They didn't grip as well in the icy morning but did a lot better when the day warmed up. This problem may have been compounded by the shoes being so new and the soles not being fully broken in. This issue does not worry me. Great shoe, highly recommended.

Exum Rivers rock!

Continuing the tradition of the Exum Ridges, these shoes are great for canyoneering. I had a chance to use them on several routes in the Zion National Park area. They did a great job making down climbs a bit easier, even on wet walls. I'd recommend these to anybody.
