La Sportiva Barracuda Climbing Shoe

The La Sportiva Barracuda Rock Climbing Shoe won the Climbing Magazine Editor's Choice Award for its unique features and excellent performance. What makes the Barracuda Climbing Shoe stand out is the Web Rubber toe-top. This sticky rubber covering increases friction when you're jamming a crack or toe hooking on a steep boulder problem. An excellent choice for high-end sport and trad climbs, the Barracuda also has a highly breathable elastic tongue to keep you from sweating like a pig on hot summer days. Asymmetrical lacing pulls this La Sportiva shoe in close for a precision fit, and the lined leather upper keeps stretch to a minimum.

Bottom Line: On steep sport routes and unrelenting cracks, the La Sportiva Barracuda is king.

Superb Shoe

Other than the wacky sizing-- at least a full (and then some) US-size small as opposed to what I'm used to, these are an awesome shoe for both indoor gym routes and outdoor sport and trad climbs. High performance, light, and comfortable. I haven't got to try it on outdoor cracks yet (these will get a workout on the Bonhomme Variation route on Devil's Tower this summer!), but the midsole is plenty stiff and the shoe has sufficient topside protection for the foot on jams.

I have 5.10 Verde in 42 Euro and they are tight. These are 40.5 Euro and they are comfortable! So at least 1.5 sizes Euro depending on what kind of climbing you plan to do in them.

these get hot!

I'm an 11.5 street shoe and wear a 43 in these. They stretched a little over a 2 month period. I love them for cracks and short trad. Longer trad, or any sunny hot climbing and these get very hot (lots of black rubber all over). I still bring my worn out 5.10s for long trad.

These are only my second pair of climbing shoes, but really glad I chose these. So much better on smaller holds. Only issue is they are for narrower feet, but I will survive :)

The Perfect Trad Shoe

I love this shoe for trad climbing! It has the all-around comfort of the Katana but with crack climbing bennies—like the rubber toe and lace-up.

stiff shoe

By: Vasya (3)

This must be the best shoe to use when you go trad climbing. I haven't done much, but the Barracuda sole is stiff for fitting in cracks yet flexible enough to edge and smear on smaller footholds. The heel fits as well as the Katana, which is awesome. One of the best trad shoes.
