Kahtoola KTS Crampon

Use the Kahtoola KTS Crampon with your trail runners, backpacking boots, or snowboard boots for grip in icy conditions. Its innovative, flexible traction system aggressively bites into sketchy terrain. Kahtoola made the KTS Crampon's ten-point gripping system from strong anodized aircraft aluminum or virtually indestructible Chromoly steel. Quick-release buckles make getting in and out of the Kahtoola Traction System a smooth process. The 3/4-inch points maintain a natural stride and reduce snagging, whether you're hiking, adventure racing, ice-fishing, or salting the drive. And at 19 ounces per pair, the KTS Crampons won't weigh you down.

Bottom Line: The Kahtoola KTS Crampons offer lightweight, flexible traction compatible with almost any shoe.

Used these to climb Mt. Shasta they did pretty good. I wouldn't try anything more vertical than that, but I liked that I could wear comfortable hiking boots.

Great universal crampon

My girlfriend tried 2 pair of my crampons while we ski/snowboard toured in the North Cascades. Since her snowboard boots didn't have the rear lip that ski and mountaineer boots have, they both fell off. The day was ruined! I then purchased her the Kahtoola KTS crampon. They not only worked on her snowboard boots great, they also worked on my ski boots. Although they are not as quick to put on some, there are others that take longer.

Perfect for hiking

I bought these for early season hiking in the High Sierras. They work fantastic for my backpacking trips. They have good traction and can go up steep passes, but are flexible so do not slow you down on the flats. Great for the role they are intended for, and light enough to carry backpacking.

These Work

I used these to summit Mount Whitney in the snow and ice. I wore them over my Montrail Hardrocks and it worked well. Make sure to spend extra time making sure the straps are adjusted just right! These are not full blown crampons that clip into plastic boots, but they work pretty good with trail shoes. They got me to the top and back!

These are great for hiking on snow and ice. Very compact and lightweight making them easy to carry in the pack. They’re very easy to put on and they adjust very quickly.

These crampons are great for mixed conditions when you may need extra traction. They adjusted easily to several different styles of boots/shoes. They held great on ice and snow. They are not appropriate for technical climbing and the lack of front points reminds of you that but for general hiking they work great.
