KEEN Targhee ll Hiking Shoe - Women's

These are a GREAT pair of shoes. They walk like a boot but are comfortable as shoe. I hardly take them off. Would recommend these any day! I did have to get 1/2 size bigger than what I wear.

This shoe is awesome - so comfortable, yet supportive. They are built to handle rocky hikes as well as a stroll on a sidewalk. They are low cut, so no ankle support, but I took them down the Grand Canyon and was fine. And yeah, get a 1/2 size bigger, especially if you plan on wearing hiking socks. I will probably never get another brand of shoes again and am trying to talk my husband into the men's brand.

I have 7 pairs of Keens, and their sizing is consistent, in that they all run a half size smaller than your normal size. HOWEVER, these run a full size smaller, in my opinion. I put them on, and my toes were pretty much at the tip. With wool socks, my toes were sore after a day of walking around.

They are comfy, don't get me wrong, but be warned that they run rather small.

I also found that even though I seem to fill up the length, my heels move an awful lot. I can't seem to stabilize them with the shoe laces which seems to come loose quite easily.

I wouldn't say these are serious hiking boots, more like casual trail walking. In retrospect I think I should've bought the mid-length boot instead.

These don't fit my feet very well. I've never had a problem with fit with Keens, but these truly don't fit my feet well.

My usual Keen size of 7.5 was a bit on the tight side (don't listen to those who say they're true to size, size up at least half if not full size!!) If I wear them with wool socks, my toes bang up against the tip. And while the length is tight, my heels are loose. I can tug all I want with the laces, but there's a lot of heel movement, which is not what you want with "hiking" shoes.

They're also rather hot in the summer, too.

I kept them and wore them on a camping trip, but I'm still not completely won over by them.

These shoes are waterproof, UNLESS you get the inside fabric wet (the part right around your ankle). First hike out with them I was on a very muddy trail. Got back to camp and stuck my foot under the water spigot to wash them off. My foot stayed completely dry until I got a little too close to the ankle area. It got damp, but dried out pretty quickly out in the sun.

These are comfortable and have the best tread - great for hiking or around town in the snow. I wear mine in the winter so I know I won't slip while holding my daughter like I will in my other comfy, go-to shoes, Dansko clogs. The Keens fit great and have great support.

This felt more like a puffy skater shoe than a hiking shoe. I own several pairs of Keens, and have never experienced any of them being way too tight in the toe box and way too loose at the heel.

I have 2 pairs of these and they are hands down my favorite sneaker/hiking/biking and walking shoe. They take a few weeks to break in but once they do are worth it!! There is alot of support and stability and both my pairs have taken a beating and still look and feel good.

These are my first pair of Keen, my husband had a pair of the Newport Trails and always talked of how comfortable they were.

We had started hiking alot this year and I needed something waterproof, but also wanted a pair of shoes that I could wear anytime, not just on the trails. I liked the look of these, so I first went to REI to try a pair on for size. I did not need to go up a half size like alot of others suggest. I have had no problems with my toes touching or hitting the end of the shoes. I think everyones feet are different and would highly suggest finding a local shop to try on a pair before ordering over the internet. I did notice the Keen waterproof shoes are a little more snug that the regular ones, but it hasn't been a problem for me and they seem to have molded well to the shape of my feet.

So anyway, I came home and ordered from backcountry since they had the color I wanted and a great price. Right when I got them, I put them on and we went for a good hike on rough terrain. They made the bottom of my feet feel a little raw, but it didn't take long for me to break them in and they have turned out to be very comfortable. I havent had any soreness whatsoever since. They feel very well constructed and I love the fact that I can step through shallow streams and mud and haven't had any water leak through. I wear them wherever I go, sometimes even to the office.

Bought them a few days before leaving for a trip to Morocco. I didn't have time to break them in, and it turned out that I didn't need to. They were fantastically rugged and ridiculously comfortable; I was airport hopping and playing in dirt and rock and these shoes responded exceptionally well! The rubber on the toe was a huge help. I'd recommend them for work or play.

Hiked all around Alaska for 2 weeks and these shoes were the best. Whether rain or shine - up hills or on flat they never caused blisters or any foot soreness after being worn all day. Got many compliments from my fellow travelers as to how cute they looked too. Cannot go wrong. Just make sure you get them the one size larger.

I have tried Merrel which supposedly is made specifically for a womans posture/shape/walking style, however they didn't fit well and hurt my feet by the end of the hikes. I got these targhees and they have an incredible glove-like fit like no other. They also needed no break-in period, and were ultra comfortable. They have great lugging/gripping on the sole and a nice sturdy toe area and heel. I sized up a half a size and they fit perfect. I think the style of these are quite fun and aesthetic as well. The laces sometimes seem resistant to pulling snuggly, but I'm sure it's partly because they are still so new. I would recommend this boot above all other boots for any hiker! Great for your typical hike (easy to difficult) but would recommend the higher cut one for more advanced hiking. A+ for this boot!!!

I got these shoes the day before my trip to Costa Rica, and was nervous about not having time to break them in - They were perfect outta the box! Super comfy and stable, love the big toe guard (for those of us that are clutzy!) Mine were true to size. I recommend these light hikers!! They are great!

My friend and I both bought this shoe when it was on steepandcheap. Woohoo! Great deal on a shoe that I had wanted for a while. Unfortunately, we both returned them for the same reason - they bothered a bunion. No other pair of hiking shoes has ever eliminated itself for this reason. Odd. Even more odd because other reviewers say this shoe is great for bunions. I have no explanation, but I surely could not use them for hikes of more than 3 miles. Everything else about the shoe was great - they looked nice, they were rugged enough for light backpacking....but yet they caused great discomfort and back they went.

I love them, they are my first Gore-tex shoe. I read one of the review before ordering saying to order 1/2 a size bigger. I'm size 7 and order a 7 1/2.

Very comfortable - didn't even need breaking in. I wore these through slot canyons and did some canyoneering with them on and they worked out great. I bought a 1/2 size bigger and they fit perfect.

I've had a pair of these for a couple of years now and have found no other shoe that can compare on the comfort & functional level as these for hikes. I just finished hiking 60+ miles in a few days in the rugged white mountains of New Hampshire and have absolutely no complaints (this included slippery wet rocks & snow). Love them so much that I'm looking to get another pair, along with the targhee boots. I do recommend the half size as suggested - I'm normally a 9 and wear a 9.5 in these. In addition - I need a lot of room in the toebox area and these are perfect (I wear a D width for running shoes). I do highly recommend the SmartWool running socks (mini crews) with these shoes - its a perfect match.

I have the targhee mids and love them. I tried these low targhees on in three sizes and my heel lifted out of all three, even the ones that were a half size too small. I do not recommend these shoes. Try the Merrell Chameleon instead.

I took these shoes to Yellowstone pretty much right out of the box. They didn't need breaking in and I loved to extra room my toes had. However to actually do a backpacking trip my feet got fatigued early on, mostly in the toes back to the arch. I will say they are very comfy in the heel area but slip a lot while hiking and it is difficult to tie the shoes tight enough to prevent slipping while hiking, due to the tongue of the shoe being a bit oversized. I loved these shoes for ease of wear and for doing the tourist thing, working or as a great everyday shoe. Not for serious backpackers. Still worth it! I would by Keen again, but for backpacking I'll use my old brand.

Super sturdy, well made and sooooo comfortable. Another thumbs up for Keen!

I wear these instead of sneakers when I am going on walks or being active and they perform great. My feet feel so comfortable in them, I forget how other shoes feel. I do a lot of hiking living in Colorado and they keep my feet dry because I sweat a lot, and again perform great. The signature Keen toe guard is essential. Also, I have a large foot, usually wear a woman's 10 or 11, finding a shoe that fits well is difficult, but the Keen's are perfect.

This is the first pair of shoes I've purchased without trying on first, as I need a shoe with a wide toe box. This shoe fits the bill with a short break-in period and plenty of toe room. It's stiff and supportive like a high-top hiking shoe and has good arch support. I haven't hiked rough trails with them yet, but have spent all day in them and my feet are still in great shape by evening. I would buy these again.

Like most Keens, these run small. I usually wear a 10.5 and the 11 was just long enough. Unfortunately, I have low volume and narrow feet too. My heels slid around way too much to keep these. Too bad because they are really cute. I have tried on the mid boot before and I didn't have as much of a problem with the sliding heel, so maybe try those if you have narrow feet.

More comfortable then any other hiking/sneaker I have ever had! I walk 40 min to and from work in these and they work great. If you like KEEN’s Newport or the Taos Hiking Shoes you will be very happy with the Targhee ll. My Taos Hiking Shoes are true to size…..NOT the Targhee ll Hiking Shoe….order 1/2 size bigger!!!!

I love them! The most comfortable shoe I have ever had. I wear them hiking and just for casual wear. I have to admit, I do have 2 pairs of these...one in green and now a tan pair. They are very stable and protect your feet from the elements. They also help stabilize you so you don't roll your ankles while hiking. I love these shoes!

I had room for only two pairs of shoes - and that's all I needed. Keen sandals plus these babies. Airport to bus to train to trail - they were the most comfortable shoe/boot ever! I didn't have time to break them in, so even though I chanced it - the outcome was favorable. Light for a boot. They fit a bit wide and size a little small (so order 1/2 up, as noted in other reviews), but I would highly recommend them.

I have weird feet that are wider in the front and narrow in the heel. These shoes are the perfect solution and I've had mine for over 3 years (and I continue to wear them every day). I haven't found a more comfortable shoe...they fit snuggly enough to prevent blisters but have more than enough room to allow your toes to wiggle around and there truly is no break-in period. I just got a pair of Keen Genoa Peak shoes but I prefer the Targhee because they are designed to "crease" at the toe (the Genoa Peaks are pretty stiff and end up denting in an annoying way). I think that I'm going to have to go back to my trusty Targhees.

I have hiked several times in these boots and I refuse to do it anymore; I've moved into hiking in either Teva Aravallis or sandals. I hiked the AT on an overnight trail and my feet got so beat to hell in these boots that I lost the big toenail on my left foot and damaged my big toenail on my right foot, as well as the second toes on both my feet. This is, of course, partially my fault for not using hiking poles and wearing socks that were too thick because the weather was cold. However, I don't find there to be enough cushion in these boots to do anything but wear them around town. Also, I wore them in the rain today and my socks were a bit damp after a 30 minute downpour, so use an extra sealant if you're going to be in wet weather.

In summary, I wear them around town if it's raining, but if I'm going to be hiking on rough ground or downhill, I will not wear these.

I just did 50 miles on the AT in PA 501 to 309 this weekend. It rained and my feet stayed dry. Shoes definatly have a hard sole and little cushon. I recomend using super feet inserts for more arch support. Size run small so buy half size up. I prefer trail runners for long distance backing but hese are good for the sharpend rocks of PA.
