Kelty Light Year Sleeping Bag: 25 Degree Down - 2006

I love how small this bag packs up. Combined with my therma-rest prolite 3, it's a comfortable, small and lightweight setup.

The first time I used this bag, it was in lower than forecasted temps of 18 degrees. I measured the temp inside my bag, and it was in the high 50's. What made it work was I kept my jacket/hat on, and I threw 2 giant handwarmers in as well. I obviously wouldn't recommend going this route, but it's my only bag and I slept fine through the night.

I encountered lower than expected temps in Graveyard Meadow at about 9k feet in August, about 23 degrees, and the advertised 20 degree (meant for four hours "comfort" @ 20 degrees) was a bit light, and I spent a sleepless night by the fire...I sent it back for a 0 degree bag.
anything to 35 probably would have been ok, though.

this bag has kept me warm through 20 degree nights in the early spring and late autumn. One way to keep the bag at its optimum heat retaining capacity is to not pack the bag up when not in use and to hang the bag in a closet by a hanger to keep the feathers from bunching.

I spent almost four months camping in Florida all the way to Texas. During the winter there were some 30 degree nights that this bag kept me very warm for. Also it takes up very little space, which is great! Only flaw is that my bag got torn and lost most of its feathers. Luckily you guys came through and allowed me to return it. Great Bag. Great Site!

My girlfriend and I both have owned one of these bags for the past year. It has stood up to all temp ranges from hot 80F nights on the AT in July to 25F winter nights high up in the Smokey’s. Unzipped, its cool enough for summer travel and fully zipped warm enough for most fall nights. If you just had the money to buy one bag for the whole year this would be the one to get.

I've used a synthetic bag prior to this bag and never will I again go back to synthetics. This bag is super warm, super light, and super compact. You can't beat this bag for backpacking.

We are family campers, and the kids bring enough to take up space! This bag is awesome, and packs up to the size slightly bigger than a football.

I shivered myself awake the first night. It was only 40F out and the cold came right through the bottom.

This bag is light, compact, and the foot vent is nice for cooling off. Unfortunately, it’s narrow in the middle, and the 3/4 zipper makes it hard to get in and out of bag.

This is a great bag for the price! I like to sleep a little on the cool side so this bag is plenty warm enough for me with a 25 deg. rating. I've used the bag all over the intermountain west and it has done me proud. I've tested it in about 20-25 deg. and I have stayed plenty warm, but that doesn't mean you will... depending upon how you sleep (cold or hot?) It's light and packs really small (with a compression sack). The foot vent is really nice when you do get a little overheated as well. The hood fits great and traps lots of heat which is usually to much for my taste. This bag is a great buy over any high-end bag if your on a budget. Sure I would like a 900-fill bag that weighs almost nothing...but not for the price they cost.

The Kelty Lightyear +25 down bag is well constructed and with good features but is not a +25 bag in my opinion. At 10,000 feet in the John Muir Wilderness the temp only dropped to +35, no ice in the water bottle. In my bag inside a tent I had to wear my thermal underwear and sock and a hat to be comfortable enough to sleep. Even then before sunrise I was dreaming of letting others know that this bag really is not comfortable at +25. I am a warm blooded, in all my other bags I end up unzipping them, not sleeping in thermals. I should mention that the Kelty has a neat feature of being able to unzip the foot area to allow ones feet out or air in.
