Karhu XCD Pinnacle Ski

The Karhu XCD Pinnacle is a high-performance touring ski for ungroomed trails in the park or a jaunt through the neighborhood. The full-metal-edged ski has a waxless base and low-maintenance style that'll have you out skiing more than ever before. Instead of driving to a ski area, use the XCD Pinnacle Ski to turn your neighborhood into your own private resort. After work, ski out of your backyard to a local park for a little exercise. You'll never have to deal with waxing the skis for different conditions, and you'll always get reliable performance. When you're ready take the XCD Pinnacle Ski into the backcountry, you'll find the same reliability and ease of use that you liked so much in the local parks.

Bottom Line: An easy-to-use ski for cruising around ungroomed trails at your favorite parks.

Nice skis

I've just received the skis and haven't skied on them , but I figure a review based on standing on them and inspecting them is better than nothing. First of all, the skis are on the lighter side, but no means flimsly. The ski core, I believe, is a combination of Pawlonia (a sustainable wood grown in China) and maple, resulting in a beefy ski without excessive weight. The ski looks better than the photos would describe. slightly "camoflauged" look, but with enough white to make it look like a snow ski. The ski exudes quality however, your driving the Toyota of cars or the Canon of cameras here. The flex, I would describe as "medium" in the tip and "medium" along the length of the ski. The camber is noticeably lower and easier to compress than a nordic ski. This suggests that the ski will be reasonably good in the tracks, telemark reasonable well. What it won't be is extremely good in the tracks, or extremely good telemarking in deep powder. However, this is not the intent of the ski. It's more for someone who wants to cruise along groomed tracks without being overly competitive about it, yet be able to wonder off to a gentle hill in a meadow and cut some decent looking telemark turns. The waxless base is white, with Karhu printed closer to the tip, and the waxless scales covering 40 percent of the base. The scales progress from large in the front, to smaller in the middle, to larger at the back. There are some trendy light blue arrows under the base. The base design suggests a ski that is going to stick well. I don't think this ski will stick so well that you would 't need skins to do any serious mountain touring, but stick well enough to climb up any intermediate groomed track or grade on a fire road, for sure. So this ski basically does what it's designed to do. It's a classy, high quality ski with good turning capability, yet will behave straighlined enough in the tracks to work as a nordic track ski. As long as your not overly athletic about striding, or trying to be a top notch tele person in deep snow, this ski is probably going to do it for you for years to come.
