Grivel Alpine Backpack - 35-55L
Grivel designed the Alpine Backpack to meet the needs of climbers tackling the most technically demanding ice and alpine routes. Never one to follow the trends, Grivel scouted the sailing market and found VX21 Carbon Composite fabric. Thanks to this tough, lightweight material, this pack stands up to tons of abuse, so you won't find a big hole when you finish hauling it through a chimney 15 pitches above the glacier. The Alpine Backpack includes exterior gear loops and a secure ice tool carry system. Grivel gave the 45 and 55 sizes a couple extra features, like internal gear loops, front zipper access, and lids that convert into fanny packs for your summit push.
Bottom Line: Big, technical mountains call for the durability and function of the Grivel Alpine Backpack.

I wouldn't recommend this pack for backpacking unless you are ready to carry fairly lightweight (under 40lbs) including food and water. It really doesnt have the suspension system to handle a heavy load for extended periods of time. I would check out an Arcteryx Bora-it has one of the most weather resistant fabrics available. It is not waterproof, but holds up well to most rain and snow. There is only one waterproof pack on the market, the Arcteryx Acrux line, but it really isn't that great, there are much better packs on the market. Also, check out the Osprey Atmos or Aether and Gregory Baltoro or Triconi packs, again, better suspension systems for backpacking. Hope this helps out a bit. (FYI I am a long time gear shop employee as well as being a mountain guide)
