Gore RideOn Sealed Low Friction Mountain Derailleur Cable Kit

Hardcore mountain bikers already know about GORE RideOn Sealed Low Friction Derailleur Cables' super-smooth, maintenance-free performance…and we're nothing if not hardcore, so we grabbed these kits for you. The Sealed Low Friction system features stainless derailleur cables, fused with a GORE Teflon coating and sealed inside the housing for total contamination denial. As a result, the Low Friction Cables feel slicker for much longer than competing kits, even when new, and they're ideally suited for doing the dirty trail dance ‘til you drop. Cables, housing, caps, ferrules, and GORE GrubT seals are all included. The Standard length is plenty enough for hardtails and most “basic” routing configurations—pick up the Extra Long Kit if your dual-suspension rig has a particularly crazy cable setup, or if you're insane enough to ride a tandem MTB.

Bottom Line: Cable gunk is your enemy, GORE RideOn is your friend.

First timer

Well bought these to install myself for the first time. Easy, obviously, but some of the "sealent" peices such as the "rubber hose thingy" can get in the way of certain derailleur setups. You've got to be careful with the actual Gore lining on the cable itself it can fray very easily. Shift super smooth and the white's blinging. I ended up leaving out the "rubber hose thingys" as they didn't not line up or work with my X0 RD. Perhaps next time around I'll get it all dialed, but they still feel awesome.

You can usually pick up extensions from a descent bike shop. They're a little metal piece that acts as a piece of housing. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it with this kit as it's made to work sort of like a sealed mechanism.....sort of. It works though. I had to do that with the original Gore cables/housing that came out in the mid '90s. Try it out. Worst case scenario you have to buy some more housing.
Hope that helps.

Sealed means no dirt or gunk inside, ever. The Teflon makes my brakes (mechanical Avid disc front, Avid SD7 rear) feel strong and smooth as silk, every time. FYI, before you install them go to Gore Ride-On's site and watch the installation video. And if your bike has a space on the top tube where bare cable usually runs, run the inner cover over the cable in that space. I had plenty of housing, ferrules, inner cover, etc. left over after installing on an 18in hardtail frame and Fox fork.

i only have one ride on these so far, but there is definitely a nice buttery smooth feel to the shifting in my rear derailer now. I should have bought the extra long for my bike though (a size medium cannondale prophet 2000). I had to shorten my housing lengths by a cm for the rear to leave close to enough for the front.

Not sure where to begin with these. Throw the old cables in the trash and hook these up. Not only do they last way longer than the standard cables, but they also work much smoother than standard cables.

One of The Best...

Fully sealed derailleur cables out there, but my only choice. So glad they are back on the market. When properly installed, Gore cables are a set and forget item. Shifting performance remains tight and consistent; impervious to weather/dirt and is long term smooth. Two of my oft used bikes are still running their same rear Gore cable after 4 years.

Should I buy the regular length or the extra long length. I have a standard large hardtail mountain bike.

Regular is plenty long. I have a full suspension bike and cut off at least a foot. I highly recommend these, super low friction and it seems like I won't have to fuss with my shifting ever again.
