Granite Gear Stratus Latitude Backpack - 4800 cu in

Weighing in at less than five pounds yet easily capable of hauling a 50-pound load comfortably, the Granite Gear Stratus Latitude belongs to a new generation of lightweight AND functional multi-day backpacks. Ultralight packs can only carry minimal loads (20-30 pounds), and they don't necessarily carry them in the most comfortable manner possible. Yet plenty of backpackers need a pack that will hold 50 pounds and that's built with beefier fabrics to hold up to the rigors of a harsh environment. Granite Gear's indestructible 3D molded Tepex frame provides incredible support and a solid fit. Other cool features on the Stratus Latitude include a front-panel loading system that opens from the top or bottom for easy access to anything in the pack (compression straps hold everything in place when the zippers are open), hydration compatibility, and an internal zip-off lid. New this year are side pockets for snacks, compass, and layers.

Bottom Line: The Stratus Latitude swallows the super light gear you need for a week in the mountains.

Carries very well. Lightweight for its volume. Best feature is accessibility. Worse is that there are no pockets- a problem for the organizationally challenged. (There is a lid pocket of sorts- but not accessible without opening the pack.)

I've been traveling around new zealand and australia for the last month and living out of my new pack. The front zip feature is amazing. I can get at even the most hidden gear w/o unpacking everything. The pack easily handles all of my gear and a good supply of food as well. I'm 5'10" and it fits like a glove. Awesome product.

one sweet carry

For me this pack does a fair portion of it all. Long weekends are cool because the weight and compression system keep it from being huge overkill for a few days. It also bridges in to week long treks with only minimal work on the packing. I have packed it up to 45lbs and did a week with a buddy and had only one small problem. If you wear hard pants, like canvas, the hip belt and the pants will eat a hole in your hip, not alot of fun but not a problem with the pack itself. It was the only pack I needed all summer, and it was at least a pound lighter than my buddies smallest weekend pack, my favorite part.
