Giro G9 Helmet
The G9's freestyle inspired looks and state of the art protection helps give you the confidence to stomp that new trick you've been working on. The G9 Helmet's impact- absorbing foam liner takes the brunt of huge impacts, so your brain doesn't have to. The tough polycarbonate outer shell will take multiple seasons of small hits. Once you get tired of the park, hike the ridge for some freshies. Giro gave the G9 helmet 12 vents to keep you cool and comfortable on the way up. If the temperature drops and the wind picks up on top, plug the vents with the included Weatherstrip vent plugs. The G9's ample venting and light weight make it an excellent choice for backcountry riding as well.
Bottom Line: Law number 1: Land on your feet, not on your head. Should you violate the law, you'll be glad you're wearing the Giro G9 Helmet.

Saved my life

When I took a spill whilst charging through the trees and railed myself headfirst against one of the suckers, this helmet undoubtedly saved my life. Obviously, now it is done for, with a massive dent and considerable crack, but that would've been my skull if not for the good people at Giro. Thankyou muchly guys, I will be getting a new G9 to replace it without even considering another helmet.
(Also fits well with Scott Decree goggles)

Hello,
I thinking I should take a size Medium. I measure 22" or 56cm. I heard someone with a 57cm head took a small because the medium was too big? Also I am trying to decide if I should get this helmet or the K2 Moxie. I know the G9 fits my head shape. I don't know if the k2 Moxie fits the same size head shape? Thanks alot.

I would recommend this one in a medium. The Moxie actually runs smaller, with the size medium fitting a head size of 21-21.5". I would stick with this helmet in a medium.

i got this helmet originally at a ski shop because it was an XL, and i have an XL sized head. I need to special order my lacrosse helmets too. anyways, it is really warm, but unless you are wearing a balaclava, the wind has a nasty habit of slipping in between my anons and the helmet. i combated the problem with rolling a piece of duct tape and putting it between the goggle and the helmet. its lasted for about 2 seasons now. other than that i love it.
apparently giro goggles fix this problem so no need for the balaclava or duct tape

My G9 + High Speed + Tree = ...

Railed myself on a tree at Brighton, was charging hard and flew headfirst into the tree at high speed. Hit it harder than I ever could've imagined but I skied away after a short recovery. The helmet may be broken, but remember, that would've been my skull without it.
Nice fit.

This helmet does a good job. I previously wore a Giro G9 for about 3 years, and stuck with it. It's warm, and I like the helmet adjustment on the rear of the helmet (my previous version did not have that) that is similar to my cycling helmet. The only down side is that my Roxy goggles don't fit on the brim when not in use for some reason, and they're left to dangle and collect snow.

Fits well (I wear a beanie underneath). The new Dial a strap they put in as of last year helps with the fit, and when it breaks, you can just rip it out. The new ear flap mechanism is also nice, even though I took them off. The helmet has minimal gap with Anon Solace goggles. Rad! I wear it when i go cycling as well in the summer time as well.

My son said this helmet feels, great. He likes the adjustment dial, finding it very convenient, for great fitting. That dial will also allow him to wear the helmet through additional growth (he's 16). He notes the ear flaps are very comfortable. As he did not choose to do "ski team" this year, he does not need the rigid ear flaps. (Alpine Ski team required hard ear flaps.) He feels these flaps seem quite safe, and, again, finds them more comfortable than in has last year's helmet.

I searched the web over looking for the perfect helmet. I have always liked Giro for Mtn. Bike helmets, and that led me to purchasing their ski helmet. I have a large cranium, and the G9's adjustable sizing band allows for a snug fit with or without a skullcap. The ear pieces and chin strap are extremely comfortable also. In addition, the removable vent plugs are easy to remove and put in your pocket. I would always recommend at least looking at helmets at a local store, but then coming back to the web to get the best deals. This site and the Giro G9 were the best combination for me. I would defiantly recommend this helmet to everyone. Go Giro!

This helmet is a great all around helmet. It fits well, is warm, especially with the ear flaps, and fits goggles well with no gaper gap. The vents work well when not plugged. My head is never warm on super cold days. Simple and effective, just what I need in a helmet. Gives you piece of mind also.

I'm on my second one of these (last one flew out of the rooftop box on the freeway), and this one is better than the first. The ear flaps fit more securely into the helmet. I love the fact that it keeps me warm when cold out, but I can also remove bits to open vents/expose ears for those spring riding/hiking days.

Great helmet. Fits great, and I would say it's a helluva lot warmer than just a wool cap, even though I keep take the vents blocker things completely off all the time. Would be nice to have a switch to open/close the vents instead of ones you have to take out yourself, but you gotta pony up more $ for that.

You should be fine. There is a micro dial in the back to help it fit properly. The dial actually cranks down pretty far so I'm sure you'll have a fine fit. If it is too big you can always return it.

Hi,I've purchased a Giro G9 Adult Snow Helmet. I wonder a thing. It has 15 vents, but 13 of them have vent plugs. The two vents at the back bottom (back of the neck) don't have plugs. Is it the standard or are the two vent plugs missing?

I recently had a good crash and this helmet saved my brain from falling out on the snow. I cracked it in three spots in the back like it is designed to do on falls like the one i had. I am for sure going to buy another one exactly like it.

Great Helmet. Lots of micro-adjustments and very comfortable. I have Oakley goggles and no issues with goggle fit. Warmth was fine, but I didn't get into anything very cold yet. Pretty much the only thing you don't get (and don't pay for) is integrated headphones.

Great balance of features/price. I especially like the ability to open the vent plugs for some air circulation for sunny days. The headband tightener is a great idea, but a bit strange because it pops loose when there's a back impact to the head...perhaps by design, like crumple zones in a car? It's already protected my noggin when I fell on my back...so I'm very pleased with it overall.
What is the difference between the G9 and the G10
What is the difference between the G9 and the G10
By: cpp11125824990
November 10, 2008
A primary difference between the G10 and the G9 is the venting of the helmet. The G9 uses foam inserts to block vents. To change the venting of the helmet you remove the helmet and insert the vents. This means that if conditions change and you want to change the venting of the helmet you need to carry the foam strips in your pocket. The G10 uses a mechanical device to open and close the vents. You move a small lever built into the helmet and the vents open or close. No foam strips to carry or get lost and you don't need to remove your helmet to change the venting.

Tight on the ears. Try it on for a few hours.
By: John
March 11, 2009
I strongly suggest you try it on for an extended time before it's too late to return it.
I originally purchased the matte black G9 in medium because it fit perfectly in the store. There was room for maybe 2 clicks of the adjuster. After wearing it for a couple hours I had to return it because it made my ears hurt like crazy. The pressure on the ears was too much for me. I got a large sized G9 and it definitely feels looser on my head, and I look goofier with the bigger helmet, but my ears dont hurt. Part of the problem is that I'm right on the border between M and L with a 59cm noggin.
Fits perfectly with my Oakley A-Frame goggles. No gap at all.
No, Giro only manufactures this helmet in size S-XL. *XL only available in limited colors.

Solid Helmet
By: Alexander Klivecka
February 20, 2009
This is the first helmet I've owned, but it is definitely comfortable and gets the job done. An adjustable wheel in the back makes it fit snug on your head, there are removable vent covers which help to regulate your heat, and the chin strap is barely noticeable. However, I have a couple issues. First is simply a style point: the helmet is kind of bulbous/bulky and in retrospect I would have rather gone with one that has a sleeker cut to it, like one with a visor in the front. Second, goggles do not rest on the helmet very easily; they almost have to balance between falling back down on your eyes and falling back over the top of the helmet, which is frustrating for putting your goggles up in the tram/lift line.

October 22, 2008
The silver helmet is a women's breast cancer awareness helmet with 3 and 4 leaf clovers on the back. The backcountry people lied to me about the design on the back and now I am in the process of returning the helmet. The helmet could kinda be consider unisex but it just wasn't for me. Very comfortable otherwise and it fit snuggly.
