Giro G10 MX Helmet

The Giro G10 MX Helmet gives you protection, versatility, and style all rolled up into one killer design. Utilizing in-mold construction, Giro bonds the EPS liner to the polycarbonate shell, creating a lightweight, durable, hyperventilated brain bucket. The G10 MX Helmet comes equipped with a removable visor for getting gnar in the park, rushing the trees, or hanging it out in the backcountry, but this helmet's core identity remains freestyle. 14 vents with on-the-fly adjustable control keep your brain at its perfect operating temperature, while the Goggle Notch channel keeps your goggles in place with a gapless, flush fit. The G10 MX is compatible with Giro's TuneUps audio system (sold separately).

Bottom Line: Stomp any terrain with the Giro G10 MX Helmet.

Ridiculous Helmet

By:
January 20, 2009

This helmet, is MAD! My Oakley A-Frames fit almost perfectly with it, and are protected in the trees by the wicked visor. The fitting is good, with the custom/micro adjustment in the back, which keeps it from bouncing around once you get it dialed. And then, above all, it keeps your brains where they belong on those monster tomahawks down the face.

Perfection

By:
May 1, 2009

I've had the G10MX for two seasons now and although I use my steezier Shiv for park riding I always love rocking the G10. When I first saw my buddy with it I knew I HAD to get it. It's the ideal helmet: great protection, extremely comfortable, easy adjustable fit, secure goggle strap and it looks dope whether you're in the park, BC or just shredding groomers. Giro makes the best helmet in my opinion and this helmet is absolute perfection. The visor is useful and makes this helmet look way better than the regular visorless G10. Every goggle I have tried with this lid has fit perfectly and comfortably. Pick one up and you won't be dissappointed.

G10 MX is the cats pajamas!

By:
November 8, 2007

This helmet is so astronomical that I can't even begin to explain how stoked I get just gazing at its fine craftsmanship. Holding it makes me want to dress up as Santa Claus and ride into the park on a reindeer pulling hoof grinds and eating pumpkin pie. The first time I actually placed it on my nogin I blacked out and woke up in the morning sleeping on a pile of money.

I am trying to find a Grey or black G10 or G10MX in Vancouver BC and nobody has one at all, no matter what the colour! Despite searching several ski and board shops in Vancouver I have come up empty. Snowcovers in Vancouver said they are sold out of this Helmet but Whistler may have some. I would like to get a G10 this Saturday in Vancouver if possible...anybody know where I could get one ? Will I have to give up and buy another brand if I want to get a helmet this season :( ?
Update: Whistler Snowcovers is completely sold out of the G10 also.

Good & could take big hits better

By:
June 6, 2009

I bought this helmet about mid way through the season replacing another Giro helmet. I took a bunch of big falls and the band would pop out of the attachment in the front of the helmet if I smack the back of my head good...which would happen a few times a week. Other wise it fit great and saved my head from a few too many close calls. plus it has a visor.

It does have the wheel in the back, to adjust the fit. It sits right on your head, not suspended, so you can only pull out the liner, or possibly shave the foam but I definitely don't recommend that.

The Best I've ever had

By:
May 16, 2008

This is the most bommer and most comfortable helmet for all things skiing. I'm used to the protection of a ski racing helmet and this is a much more comfortable option that offers comparable safety and won't get you laughed off of big mountain summits. Has easy vents that are great for hiking and warm days alike, while closing them keeps out the Alaskan rain and bitter cold that I deal with every day, in a way that hats and other helmets could only pretend to do.

P.S. Unlike some other Giro helmets the brim on this looks extremely dumb on snowboarders, sorry.

By:

Excellent Helmet. I got this helmet from a friend who won it at a snowboarding competition, and boy has it been great. After taking many falls on it you realize that it is a beater helmet that will not let you down when you need it the most. Best of all, if you put on the visor and schralp the trees, you don't have to worry about getting your goggles scratched by an overlying tree branch. Definitely would buy this!

By:

By far the best looking and comfortable helmet out there. Vents have 3 adjustments, closed, half closed, fully open. Rear adjustment actually works well. The visor actually helps keep down glare and brushed away some tree branches after I was doing mach 10 down a tree shute. Warm earpads. This is my helmet. By a size smaller. Normally I would have gone with a large but the medium is perfect.

I would give this 5 stars, but since the goggle strap button ripped off after 30 days, it gets 3. It wasn't even that cold at the time the button broke, so I don't know what gives. Otherwise, it's a great helmet. The visor is a big help when it's snowing. The venting is more than adequate on the warmer days. And the rear head adjustment is a nice touch as well.

Great helmet---but the canvas is dumb

By:
December 9, 2008

First off, the helmet is really nice. My Oakley A Frames have nearly a gapless fit, and it's comfy and warm. The visor is okay---it makes it hard to put the goggles on your forehead, but it's still possible. When you take the visor off, there's 3 pretty ugly holes left in the front of the helmet. Also, the brown canvas is the dumbest thing ever. It's a giant cotton sponge on your head that absorbs water. Just get a brown helmet if you want the color. I returned this helmet because of the canvas, but I like the way the visor looks, so I'll probably get another MX in a different color.

November 19, 2007

Yeah, what StokedOnPow said. I must have looked at every helmet on the market, and this is the only one I drooled on myself over. (But if you think it's ugly, then hey, buy something else.) On its first day, I hiked and skinned an ascent for over two hours, and couldn't believe I actually had a helmet with me at the summit, it was so light. The dial-do-hickey at the back of the helmet allows you to adjust it to a wide variety of head shapes & sizes--although I had to exchange the L I ordered (due to the size chart--order small) for a M. Lucky me, a friend loved it so much he just took the L and ordered the M for me.

You'd have to hit it pretty damn hard to break it off. The central attachment point is angle adjustable pivoting on the two side anchor points. So most of the time on a big hit the visor just pivots up the helmet and its a simple matter of pulling it back down and heading on your merry way.

A decent lid

By:
December 18, 2008

It's hard to find any serious faults with this helmet. It's light and has a low profile; the adjustable vents keep the noggin comfortable; the visor is handy for blocking a high sun and low branches; the addition of a TuneUps kit is awesome. But as others have mentioned the visor makes it tough to lift your goggles off your face and I feel as though the visor somewhat limits airflow to the goggles.

Great noggin guard

By:
August 28, 2008

This helmet is awesome all-around. It's very comfortable and lightweight, but keeps your head protected from lift bars and more dangerous things. It's stylish too, so you'll look cool while you bonk your head on stuff. It's warm and comfortable, easy to adjust for size and airflow.

If you're going to get one, ignore the sizing chart posted or what you think you would normally wear. Giro's new adjustable helmets follow this sizing:
S = 20.5 in. to 22.2 in.
M = 22.2 in. to 23.2 in.
L = 23.2 in. to 24.6 in.

G10MX vs Smith Variant Brim Fit

By:
February 17, 2009

I think all of the other reviewers have the G10MX's great features covered...so my comments relate to fit. I tried both the Smith Variant and G10MX. In normal hat measurements, my head is a slightly oval 7-1/8th (consistent among all types of hats, including cowboy). The Smith Variant seems to be a very round (bowl)-shaped fit, so the Med was too big despite the adjustability, and the Smith Variant Small was too shallow for my dome. Further, the Smith Variant adjusting/sizing mechanism is not nearly the quality of Giro. Giro has the most durable, intuitive and tested adjusting/sizing mechanism of any helmet I've seen or used (biking or otherwise). Finally, the G10MX has a very streamlined profile as far as dome pieces go. The Small Giro G10MX fits me like a glove and is super comfy.

Giro G10 MX HELMET

By:
February 17, 2009

I did a lot of online shopping and returned quite a few helmets before finding the one with the RIGHT fit and the BEST quality. My original preference was for a full helmet, but none had the fit I wanted.

The G10 MX has an excellent fit with quality features. The VENTING system is great, and I like being able to switch a control without having to remove the helmet to remove Velcro pads.

The EAR FLAPS have a nice snug fit without putting pressure on the ears. The CHIN STRAP fits snugly and has nice padding.

The BACK ADJUSTMENT allows the user flexibility to consider individual head differences.

The OVERALL look is sleek and the pattern will make it easy for your friends to spot you on the slopes with its UNIQUE design on the sides/back of the helmet. It is STYLISH without being RAD and will never go out of style.

It was well worth my time to try on many helmets to make sure I got the one that met all of my requirements.

I agree with Angus' reply below about wearing your googles all the time. The context of my question was that at times standing in a lift line or chair lift, I raise my googles to my forehead for a short time. This season I will stop procrastinating, purchase a helmet and wear it. I think the MX10 is the one for me but I wasn't sure how the visor experience would work out. The next day it warmed up so I opened the vents and was good to go. It looks good, it feels good and keeps your head safe so you can be confident while charging lines thru the trees, ripping groomers or going off in the park. In this position you have to tilt your neck way back to clear the visor obstruction in order to look ahead. What's it like skiing with a visor?

dope helmet

January 8, 2009

I love this helmet, I've ridden it a couple seasons and so far wasn't disappointed. I took a couple bad wrecks in the trees due too that ever so awful east coast ice but it held out amazingly well, plus it fits great with most gogs that I have worn with it including electrics and anons. the only bad thing is the fit is really finickey but pretty good

What is the difference between a wave and no wave? When talking

What is the difference between a wave and no wave? When talking about the color? Choices are white/no wave and other colors such as ice blue. What does the wave mean?

I'm pretty sure "no wave" indicates the design on it. If you look at the helmets without "no wave" there is no design. This also is true with the goggles and other helmet styles. All of the "no wave"s have some sort of design on them while the ones without "no wave" have nothing on them.

Can anyone comment on the durability of the visor. I saw in the store that it has plastic screws and unlike the Variant Brim, appears like the visor could break-off easy. Any experience?

Can't speak from personal experience, but my coach has one and he's taken some huge wipeouts that I've seen and never broken the visor. They look like metal screws in the photo too, maybe this is a newer model or the ones you saw were painted over?Quick addition: The screws are plastic. I scraped a big piece of the fancy brown pattern off my visor on my first good crash in this helmet. plastic is still in perfect shape though - PS

Legit Helmet Get It

By:
February 2, 2009

I have had a couple different helmets and this one by far is the best i've owned. Everything about it is comfortable and it pretty light too. I bought some tune ups to go with it and it make an already awesome helmet, better. Also i have some Oakley Crowbars and they just naturally flow with the helmet. I have had some nasty face plants and the visor actually kept my face out of the snow. They're built flexible and the visor will slide and not break away. The helmet will take the brunt of any fall. You might get your bell ringed a little because of lack of padding but you definitely will walk away from it. In all, the helmet and steezy and if your in the market for a helmet, get this.

I never thought that I would wear a helmet while skiing but I finally broke down and picked up this one. This helmet is warmer than any hat I have ever warn. I was skiing in 10 to 15 degree weather with a wind chill of around 5 or so and my ears where warm the entire day.

Another great Giro product...

By:
February 23, 2009

My wife and I have been using their bike helmets for years and I decided it was time to get some protection for when I snowboard. The helmet worked great on my trip last week, but it was around 40F on the snow here in North Idaho, so I can't say how it will work when the temps drop. I'm guessing some type of close-fitting beaner will be necessary when it gets cold. But, at 40F, it breathed well and was VERY comfortable. It's no surprise, really...it's a GIro and their products are excellent. Only downside is the price...too bad it isn't cheaper.

Gnarly

By:

This helmet is legit. Keeps your dome warm, or cool if you open the vents. Seals up nicely when matched up with crowbar goggles. Visor is great if you hit the back country as it keeps those little branches from scratching your goggles. Visor also helps with the sun. One other nice perk is the inner lining can be pulled out and washed after getting sweat on. Overall best helmet ive used to date.

To address some other questions: The visor survived a nasty face-plant that cracked a couple of my ribs. The vent works well, however, when it's really cold, I feel a draft from the bottom, rear vents. You can't close these, so you just have to be a man about it. The visor also helps keep the sun out of your eyes when it's high in the sky. Just be sure you try it on with your goggles before you go out on the slopes. I use the Oakley A-frames... If my memory isn't mistaken, the crowbars don't fit with this helmet. you won't regret buying this helmet.

Keeps your brains in your skull and your ears warm

By:
July 23, 2008

I was a little worried about my ears getting frozen off but I was just fine. Also did a good job when I decided to perform a sliding headbutt into a tree. It didn't help me dig out from underneath my new friend, but I also didn't leave my brains steaming in the snow next to me.

Comfortable Helmet

By:
December 3, 2008

The vent system on this helmet is sick! This is particularly useful for skiing in the PNW where you are never very far below freezing. Fits the head nicely and the adjustment system in the back of the helmet ensures a snug fit.

I have two complaints - the brown canvas fabric absorbs a ton of moisture, and with the visor in place, taking your goggles off in the lift line isn't happening. i have to take my helmet off to get my goggles off.

Great Helmet

By:
January 29, 2008

Always been a fan of Giro for their natural fit. Finally replaced my old Giro 9.nine with this 10MX. Like above get a size smaller then you think, normally I'd get a large but the medium fits perfectly, just like my old L.

Awesome Helmet

By:
September 22, 2008

I actually own two of these helmets, one Large, one X-Large. Take everyone else's advice and go one size smaller than you think, even after trying it on. The lining packs out after a few days The result is a great-fitting, sharp-looking, and insulating helmet.

It is very easy to open and close the vents, something that can be done mid-run, mid-hike, maybe even mid-air.

The helmet has helped me hang on to a few extra brain cells, as evidenced numerous scrapes and cuts on the shell.

I started getting into biking this year and have used my G10 mx for over 40 days of riding. It's a little warm at times, but not too bad.

Overall, awesome helmet. Comfortable, stylish, and effective.

Awesome Dome Piece

By:
November 13, 2008

I've owned a G10 for a few years and have taken some pretty big crashed with it on. I suffered a mild concussion once, but am pretty sure I saved myself from some serious damage because of my G10. Last year I lost it while packing my car and decided to get the G10mx as a replacement. Couldn't be happier and now my goggles don't have scratches from all of the trees.

Several crashes and 3 old men lowering lift chair bars later, it's holding together well. This thing is awesome. Good fit (does run a bit small) and super warm. Recommended for sure.

i had a boeri tactic helmet last year which broke in fall, enter my g10mx. i got the white one, i used it and was thoroughly impressed with the ventilation, i did not have to remove it on the lift to vent. so if you ever get really hot in your helmet, i would recommend the g10, and if you're going for style points, the g10mx. also, i have smith prodigy goggles from last year that fit the helmet better than my previous boeri tactic helmet.
