Fischer Outtabounds Crown Ski

The Fischer Outtabounds Crown ski is a true Nordic hybrid ski. Fischer's Turning Crown system gives you the traction you need on the uphill without messing up your turns on the downhill. The Outtabounds' wide dimensions give it superb float in powder, and SnowShocks extend from the mounting zone to help dampen vibration on hardpack. The Outtabounds is happiest mounted with a light telemark rig, like a 3-pin cable binding, and will perform admirably on the flats, up the hills and down the other side. Perfect for hut trips, the Outtabounds Crown's built-in kick will drive your friends nuts as you run circles around them while they mess with skins. If you want maximum versatility without swapping out skis and gear all day, the Outtabounds crown will do it all.

Bottom Line: The Fischer Outtabounds Crown'll take you outta sight.

Bushwacker ski

This is a great ski for bushwacking and off trail x-c skiing. Plenty of float in deep snow. I recommend getting a set of skins for climbing. The waxless scales are good on gentle terrain, but for any real vertical gain you'll need a little more stick to avoid sliding backward.

A Nice Overall Compromise for a Backcountry Ski

By: Jonathan Shefftz (69)

The Outtabounds has great glide on the flats, and turns reasonably well on moderate terrain. Uphill grip can be weak though on firm snow, especially if you fall toward the bottom of the weight range for your ski length, so pick your priorities before you pick your ski length. (And choose the Rebound if you want more touring performance or the Boundless if you want more turning performance.) Overall though, Fischer is definitely leading the field in waxless turn-oriented backcountry skis, with Atomic and Salomon producing what appear to be close imitations of the Fischer SBounds line.
