I have had a few approach shoes in my time and the Stryker is my favorite so far. I put some "super feet" arch supports in them and DAMN they are comfy. I live in the Boulder Colorado area which has some pretty burly approaches. I mainly boulder, so hikes to Mt. Evans, Rocky Mountain National Park and front range areas tend to be long, steep and rocky. These babies have been able to handle snow pack, mud, talus and the occasional bar. They look cool and can handle anything in my opinion.

what is the difference between the approach shoe and the actual climbing shoe?

Flag

approach shoes are typically shoes used for the hike up to the rocks, which can sometimes be steep with a lot of "scrambling" involved. They can also be used for light "easy climbing. Climbing shoes are for well... climbing. For hard stuff you need real climbing shoes.
