First Need XL Water Purifier Replacement Cartridge
This First Need Deluxe water filter replacement cartridge has a 0.1 micron carbon matrix filter element which cranks out a rapid 1.8 liters per minute. The First Need by General Ecology has the finest filter among the water purifiers we sell and it also offers the fastest pump rate. One customer tested his out on a pot of coffee and found he had a cup of fresh water on the other end (we recommend using the clearest water possible but it's a good story!). The First Need Deluxe Water Purifier Cartridge has a capacity of 135 gallons which is substantial if you consider that the average person consumes about a half gallon per day. Backpackers like the First Need Purifier's compact size and 15 oz weight (complete water filter). The Deluxe Water Purifier now has a redesigned handle which fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.

It's a good idea to carry along a replacement cartridge especially when globe trotting. They are not available everywhere!

What is the life of the filter if it sits unused from one summer
What is the life of the filter if it sits unused from one summer to the next? Thanks.Dan

The life of this cartridge is based more on usage rather than time or shelf life. If it remains unused, theoretically it could last as long as the materials remain intact which could be decades.

First Need Walter Filter/Cartridge

I recently returned from a 21-day backpacking/camping trip. I couldn't have been more pleased with the First Need Filter. We drank from several water sources known to be contaminated with giardia and other critters. The First Need filter worked excellently. Although a little expensive, the quality and peace of mind more than make up for it.

While the First Need Water Filter is very expensive it offers outstanding water quality with little fuss. The taste is great from the First Need water filtration system. Thankfully, BackcountryStore offers the best internet price on this filter so the next 100 gallons won't be as high priced as it could be.
