DAKINE 60/40 Convertible Rolling Gear Bag - 9300cu in.
The DAKINE 60/40 Convertible Rolling Gear Bag holds a ridiculous 9700cu inches worth of gear and comes apart into two separate bags to beat airline weight restrictions. “Traveling light” has nothing to do with this giant DAKINE travel duffel. No matter how much stuff you load into the 60/40 Convertible Rolling Gear Bag, its retractable handle and urethane wheels help you stroll through the airport with ease. DAKINE also includes two top pockets to keep smaller stuff from disappearing into the depths of this massive bag.
Bottom Line: Carry all the gear you could ever need on a trip with the huge DAKINE 60/40 Convertible Rolling Gear Bag.
Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.
Best Bag Ever!

I went on a biking/camping trip for a week. And it was thrown arround a lot and at the end of the trip it still looked like it could take more of a beating.
It held everything. From my air mattress, sleeping bag, all of my clothes etc. Was also easy to roll over dirt & grass...and with all my stuff it weighed a little over 60 pounds.
When I flew I detached them and avoided the over sized baggage fees which are a lot more expensive than paying for 2 checked bags.
I'll buy this bag again if it ever falls apart...but looking at the quality I think that will be a long time from now.
great rep bag!

i am an outside sales rep and this bag has been a life saver for showing clothing. it looks very nice and presents well with all the pockets. this has done so well for me that i purchased a 2nd bag. the airport gets so excited when they say they need to charge me for being over their weight limits... simply detach the two bags and your on your way. no charges from the airport and confidence that the bag will hold up well with the gorillas handling your bags behind the scenes.
Will the top portion stand on it's own when it is split apart
Will the top portion stand on it's own when it is split apart into two separate bags?
no, there isnt any structural support on the top section. its just a bag, not totally flimsy, but not stable either. hope this helps.

This bag is where its at! if you are traveling with tons of gear and close. I had it packed full to the brim and the airport clerk was about to charge me an extra fee until I told her it was two bags. The pockets are big, there is a total of 6 pockets. 2 on the top, 3 on the underside of the top bag, and 1 huge cargo pocket that is the size of the hole main bag. I work in Alaska and stay for 5 months at a time, being my 5 year I have finally found a bag big enough for all my gear.
I highly recommend it.
great on space, one flaw.

this bag is sweet. i am currently on a two month excursion in japan with this bag, and it holds so much gear its rediculous. the seperating feature is nice as well, for using a single piece on day trips, etc. while leaving the bulk of your gear in a hotel or something. the one problem i have had so far is that the zippers themselves are not very water resistant, and walking through rainstorms got some of my clothes a little wet. nothing to dissuade me from recommending this bag to anyone else. its totally sick!
Good bag, could use some improvements

This is a good, very large volume bag. Though I think DaKine's design / build quality has decreased in the past ~ few years. I previously owned a smaller DaKine version of a similar bag, which had a zipper all around between the upper and lower segments. This makes for a much more useful and secure closure to the bag. It escapes me why they would omit this simple feature. Overall, the fabric and construction quality has suffered in recent years. I've also compared their current "Poacher" pack with a version I used to own from 2000 and the quality is significantly less. (both of these were stolen from me, hence the newer replacements).
