Is there any kind of pedal adapter for these in case you need to jump on your bike without cleated shoes?

The adapters do exist, but Backcountry.com doesn't stock them, and they're pretty dang hard to find. You'll need to e-mail Crank Brothers at info [at] crankbrothers.com for info on them.

Honestly though, riding with egg beaters isn't awful without a clipless shoe.

For these pedals, you'll need some clipless-compatible shoes like the Shimano America SH-M122 Mountain Bike Shoe. These pedals come with the cleats to screw into the bottom of your shoes, so nothing to worry about there.
