Columbia Bugaboo Parka - Men's
The Columbia Interchange System gives the Men's Bugaboo Parka maximum versatility with a fleece liner that you can wear alone or snapped into its shell. The 3-in-1 Bugaboo Parka's detachable hood protects you against high mountain winds, and the soft fleece lining feels cozy on cold winter days. The multifunction pocket stores your iPod and wallet while the articulated elbows provide for a full range of motion. Columbia's authentic cut balances the Bugaboo Parka between a not-too-slim and not-too-loose fit.
Bottom Line: Dry winter and spring days call for the 3-in-1 Columbia Bugaboo Parka.

Decent, but not as high-quality as some other ski jackets.

I've been evaluating a few different ski jackets/soft shells -- this is one of the few that are available in tall sizes (although not through Backcountry, at least right now.)
This is a decently constructed 3-in-1 shell. It definitely feels less well-made than the other Columbia jackets I looked at (the 'Whirlibird' and 'Lhotse' models.) It also lacks ski-specific features such as underarm vents and a powder skirt. Ironically, though, I liked the fleece that came with this jacket better than the other Columbia zip-out liners. It seems fairly waterproof, but is not as warm/windproof as their higher-end shells.
For casual around-town use, or light ski duty, this will do just fine, and it looks pretty sharp. For serious mountaineering, look elsewhere.

Columbia Craftsmanship
By: Tj Macapagal
June 29, 2009
Just got my Columbia jacket a few months ago. Quite frankly i am not happy with Columbia's craftsmanship. The velcro pads the put the two ends of the jacket are slowly coming off. To think i have only used this jacket THRICE! A lot of loose end strings from the stitches could be seen. I should have gotten A different brand of jacket instead.

The waterproof rating on the Bugaboo is 3K and on some others it is 10K (or even 20K). Does that mean the Bugaboo is only about 1/3 as effective as a 10K jacket at repelling rain? What kind of conditions would show up this difference?

Good Jacket
By: Jordan Fox
April 10, 2009
This jacket is pretty well made along with most Columbia products. It is very good in the rain and will keep you pretty warm with the fleece liner. It is nice on warmer days to take the fleece out and use the outside jacket as raingear or just as a windjacket. Overall, recommended at this price.

Casual Jacket
By: mus2588618
January 2, 2009
Much to my surprise the jacket kept me dry and warm in a steady rain for 2 hours at 40F. The jacket design could be improved with armpit vents (zippers) and drawstring (powder skirt) around the waist. The fleece is light-weight, not for extreme cold temps. In freezing temps, you'll need extra layers, consider buying a size larger than you normally would. Overall, since I bought the jacket on sale...I'm pleased with overall value & performance as a casual jacket.

Sirs: Great looking and fitting jacket. How do you work the tiestring on the bottom of the jacket so the loops won't hang down? Thanks for the help. Lorraine Abbott
By: poo100238579
January 10, 2009
I looked at mine, but I don't think there is any way technically with the jacket to keep the loops from hanging down. If you could manage to fashion something on the jacket to hold the loops then you might be able to hide them.

Great Jacket
By: Dano
December 29, 2008
I have had this jacket for a while and it has been great. I use it for just about everything. I use the jacket and fleece together for skiing, and it works great. The fleece by itself is warm. The shell is great as a windbreaker and has about a million pockets. So my final word is that you should buy this great product.

What is the suggested warmth factor? In other words, in what temperatures/conditions does Columbia suggest this jacket is best for? Would this be good below 32 degrees? Wet weather?
By: Fran
January 1, 2009
This jacket is easily good down to the low teens if not colder. You could go lower, much lower with layering. This jacket is fine in wet weather but not in a lot of insane downpours.

Do you have a size chart or info on Men's jackets? What is economy shipping? What are shipping charges for a jacket if economy is too slow?
By: Sheila Rosenthal
December 20, 2008
To see a size chart for this jacket, click on the "View Size Chart" link right below the price & size options. Economy shipping for this item would be free since it costs more than $50 and thus satisfies the free shipping deal with Backcountry. As for faster shipping (just for this jacket), place the item in your shopping cart and then enter your zip-code in the appropriate box and check which option you'd like.

The outer layer is waterproof and comfortable. It also breathes well. The inner layer is a little thin, but any heavier and the combined jacket would be less comfortable. Another added bonus and is that the inner layer can be swapped for another Columbia with a blue tag.

Great Parka
By: SammyGill
October 30, 2008
Bought this last year before a ski trip to replace my old North Face Parka. Held up great for the trip and have been wearing it ever since. Windproof shell makes it great for cold windy days in Kansas. Fleece liner looks great as a standalone and keeps me plenty warm when I'm not in full-on bundle up mode. Removable hood is a nice feature (I always thought rolling it up in the collar looked kinda dorky) and was a great improvement over my old North Face. Plenty of pocket space means there's no reason why you can't carry the hood somewhere else, too. For the price, it's hard to beat.

Good jacket overall.
Pros: 3 configurations, rainproof and windproof, good fit and comfy, much less $ then a North Face.
cons: inner fleece is pretty thin (not sure if it will stand up to an east coast winter)

Yup. This one has a zip-in/out fleece liner. Another good option is the North Face Windwall triclimate. Although I find the triclimates with a softshell liner more useful - the fleeces aren't that great on their own.

Great Parka
By: Jim O'L
April 10, 2009
Bought this to replace my old Nautica Parka. This is more form fitting, is comfortable and warm. However, I have not worn in a snowstorm or skiing, so I have to reserve final opinion till then. Not crazy about the color combo, though Columbia could have other brighter colors like red / white, yellow / black, orange / tan. But for now it fits the bill. Backcountry was great parka arrived on time.

Few competitors
By: jnyeste100103572
December 23, 2008
This jacket actually has few competitors. All other 3-in-1 jackets this year are shorter. Even this one could be longer; the ski jacket I'm retiring was longer. Apparently, manufacturers are saving costs on materials. You can find longer jackets, typically snow board jackets, but few of them are as warm, either not insulated hardly at all or not 3-in-1 styles. This jacket is warm and weather proof. The liner is excellent. I have no idea why some manufacturers (e.g., North Face) have liners that do not zip to the shell. However, this jacket could use some vents and a powder skirt.
yes but you will have to get it from casualmale.com

I bought this for my fiance and he LOVES this coat. The 3-in-1 versatility completely won him over (especially for New England weather!) I liked that this coat was windproof and rainproof. I ended up buying the female counterpart to this because I liked his so much. I would recommend this coat to others. The fit looks great on him and the coat is comfortable (so I hear!)

Good Jacket could be better
By: Kbabcock
December 30, 2008
Overall a good Jacket but it has a few flaws. First off a built in hood would be much better that the detachable hood which can be lost and left at home when needed. Second the jacket is not very warm, the fleece lining is thin. Now, this can be a good thing when working up a sweat but if you are looking to keep warm while inactive additional
clothing is a must. This is at best a 32 degree jacket, 40 degrees being more the comfort zone. The last issue compounds the second, the jacket does not have much extra room inside so putting on extra layers can feel tight. This maybe solved with a larger size. For the price it is a good jacket but could be better.
