Cloudveil Down Patrol Jacket - Men's
Bust out the Cloudveil Men's Down Patrol Jacket and shirk the shivers when the snow accumulation leaves your thermometer covered and completely unnecessary this winter. Bolstered with Gore's WindStopper fabric and 650-fill down, this puffy stands up to the nastiest weather Mother Nature can muster. The dual direction front zipper provides easy access to a harness. A hood that fits over your helmet shelters you from the biting wind, while mesh-lined pitzips cool you off as you skin up the ridge. The Down Patrol's powder skirt protects nipples from chilly deep pow shots, and you can remove the skirt when you want to rock the Down Patrol Jacket's unique quilted look around town.
Bottom Line: The Cloudveil Down Patrol Jacket knows how to get… warm.

Over $220 for this? Come on, Cloudveil. Before I bought this I had an REI Anti-Freeze jacket that was outstanding, but I returned it because of a bad seam. I was persuaded to pay the extra for this and bought online. Needless to say, I should have kept the REI jacket. For over $75 more, I was awarded with poor quality material, less fill power (kind of necessary for cold Montana winters), a 2XL that should have been marked as a 4XL because it was severely baggy around the waist and chest, and a zipper that was defective. I wonder if Cloudveil is high on their own pedestal without taking a good look at the quality of their product. I would check out the REI jackets, Mountain Hardwear, or North Face before paying for this one.

Very warm and relatively light weight. Good styling makes for a coat that is equally effective at keeping you warm and presentable.
Main complaint: face protection. The hood fits over a helmet, but the collar is too small to cover the chin and cheeks. If you're going to haul this sort of coat into the backcountry, you don't want to worry about frostbite: you want to be bombproof.

This jacket would be perfect if it weren't for a couple of things. First the positive: The Cloudveil Down Patrol is a stylish, comfortable jacket which gives you serious style points on the hill! The 550 fill down keeps you plenty warm on cold days, and the Gore Windstopper outer fabric keeps the wind from biting your nips on super blustery days. The fit is great around the shoulders and chest, but could present a problem for someone with a larger belt line, as the cut doesn't flare hardly at all at the bottom of the jacket. The Velcro enclosures at the wrist offer plenty of adjustability. The two small problems I ran into have mostly to do with the ability to be manipulated with gloves. First, the powder skirt is nearly impossible to affix with gloves, as the snaps are entirely too small. You may consider this extremely nit-picky until you get up on the slope and find some powder off the trail and suddenly need the protection and can't fasten the snaps with gloves because it's 10 degrees out. Also, the removable skirt is fairly wimpy and ineffective compared to the skirt of my Gore-tex shell. Secondly, the hood design doesn't allow for maximum closure, leaving gaps near the zipper on the hood for wind to lash your neck. Also, the grommets on the hood closures are also impossible to manipulate with gloves. But, once you realize these minor detractors and learn to adjust these in the lodge or gondola, you can ski or ride with super style and comfort.

I received my Cloudveil in opened bag with no tags -- the zipper requires 2-5 minutes of sometimes frustrated adjustment before a good pull to top and the waist band tightener cord broke in first two weeks.
I like the jacket and need to send it in for repair but it is something warm in the cold...will see how it plays out...question ethics in this trade.

This jacket is pretty warm. I have worn in conditions down to 16 F with no problems. I do wish that the pockets were lined with something, or had filling around both sides (the inside edge does get cooler). I got the black, and it looks nice. My wife has an older model with a weird stitching pattern, but they went more conventional on this one.

I just picked up this bad boy on sale and absolutely love it. I haven't had the chance to make use of the zip-off powder skirt, but the other features such as pit-zips and the zip hood are great. I've been out in temps around 25deg with heavy winds with nothing but a t-shirt under and still seem to be amazingly warm and comfortable. If you are looking for a nice down piece, without the flare, to keep you warm on those chilly wintery days, this is for you.

its a perfect jacket. got everything what you need. good fit, excellent qualtiy, great features. wear in the german alps, mostly in town and keeps you warm even with -10°. BUT: the colour, specially the pic is useless. thought I receive a dark blue one (after chating with c.s. people - they confirmed it would be navy) and what did I get? a light blue, terrible colour.
normally the pics show colours in a lighter, brighter way, but this time it was darker.
anyway, good jacket, awful colour - so choose the black one than you know what you get.

Cloudveil is a great company but they're inconsistent. They make great stuff (RPK, Serendpity, Headwall) and aweful - and this one is on the aweful side. The whole things feels low budget, from the Walmart grade shell fabric (Windstopper?!) to the cheapo cuffs and collar. And the sleeves are too short - a jacket killer for me. Leave this one and get the Enclosure Parka instead.

If you are looking for a puffy that is built to ski, this is it. Its light and has a great cut with a little extra material to cover your rear. Great collar with a soft micro fleece liner (same inside pockets) and a great hood that works well over a helmet. I wore it in Stowe VT in below zero conditions with 30 to 40 mph winds and I was a happy camper.

Just got my Down Patrol in time for the first big storm of the 06/07 winter, and I am loving it! Unlike many other down jackets out there, Cloudveil's Down Patrol blurs the line between form and function. With easy to reach pit-zips, a removable hood and powderskirt, an internal media pocket, and Gore-Tex Windstopper protecting your frontside from cold gusts, this jacket has all the necessary bells & whistles to keep you stoked this winter! Best part is, the Down Patrol looks good too- it is water resistant and warm, but not bulky (read: you won't look or feel like the Michelin Man). I find myself ignoring my other winter jackets now that I have my new Cloudveil- the simple fact is, I just have no use for them! Thank you guys and Cloudveil, this is no doubt my best purchase yet. Size Large fits great, I'm 6'1", 190 lbs. Enjoy!

I wore this Down Patrol jacket in Tahoe for 7 days. Three of the days, I had to use a fleece. This jacket is warm / hot. The Windstopper works great, and it is somewhat water-repellent. The pow just brushes off like dust and leaves no water behind. Where I had my skis leaning on my shoulder, it was a little damp, but no water or wind ever got through the jacket. I always had only a T-shirt on. Temp was low 20s & 30s. The days it got to 40, the jacket was too warm.

I must have looked at 100 jackets; I wanted something for my husband that was simple, yet if he wore it to the store, had the ventilation. You'd be surprised how that narrowed down the choices. The jacket fits great, is really warm, and I paid about half what I did for my similar North Face.

I bought this jacket to stay warm on subfreezing days walking around town and going to work. The jacket is very warm, can be worn with a t-shirt down into the teens, resist rain and wind, pit zips help when it warms ups, nice fit to size, fabric is more durable than it appears, resist stains. The powder color is a light gray, not white, so at the sale price it was a great deal.

I ended up getting a size bigger than normal in order to be able to wear more than a shirt under it. NO SNOW so I haven't used it skiing yet, but it looks like it will be good.

Perfect jacket for what it's intended for, Skiing, riding, walking around in the winter but not anything more extreme than that IMO. The look and fit is the best and it has all the features one would want. There are lots of jackets that might have a removable hood, pit zips or a powder skirt but only the Down Patrol has them all!! Only issue I have is with the collar when the hood is down/off. There is no way to cinch it tighter so it's very drafty, your neck is totally exposed if your not wearing a collared shirt.

This jacket has it all. 650 fill is just perfect but doesn't feel too bulky. The pit zips help with cooling off after doing bumps. The insulated helmet fitting hood rocks! The chest pocket is great for cell phones. The hook and loop wrist closures are nice.
Fleece lined hand warmer pockets keep the hands toasty. Very well thought out jacket......LOVE IT!!!!

Excellent parka in every way- not intended for mountaineering but rather for less hostile climates. Very well constructed. There are lighter parkas out there- both synthetic and down- but this one is a favorite all-around parka.

Its a great jacket, it easily handles even the worst North Dakota weather, and I can sit through a class in it and not overheat. Good build quality, cool features, an excellent buy.

This jacket is the epitome of the utilitarian, all-mountain toasty jacket. Complete with as many bells and whistles to give you as many options as an all-you-can-eat buffet. This is the jacket of choice when warming up is crucial to comfort and survival, without a bit of compromise on the city steez!
