Cloudveil Headwall Jacket - Men's

When you need one jacket that performs in the backcountry but looks the part at the local mountain watering-hole, stick with the Cloudveil Men's Headwall Jacket. This Windstopper Softshell takes on gnarly weather like a champ, blocking out alpine gusts and resisting water. Polartec microfleece lines this jacket and traps in body heat while maintaining breathability. A removable powder skirt, snap-cuff wrist closures, and a storm collar keep that fluffy pow out, while contrast stitching and bartack detailing gets you noticed by that cute local liftie.

Bottom Line: If ‘skiing' describes your lifestyle, the Cloudveil Headwall Jacket will function quite nicely your day-to-day routine.

Surprisingly good performance

To be honest, I expected more when I purchased mine. No matter how many times I've attempted to replace it with a more expensive jacket, I've always come back to the Headwall for my casual and everyday needs. It looks good in a casual setting, and you could pull off a conservative look (thanks to the collar). It's not the warmest jacket in the world, but it sure feels good--sturdy, but not so much that it obstructs movement--sturdy for a softshell. It's protected me well on windy days, and it's definitely water resistant--it'll reflect a lite drizzle (haven't tested further). It doesn't appear to pick up odors, and the outer material is tough to dirty/damage. I'm going to be selling off 3-4 of my seldom used jackets on ebay, but this one I'll be holding on to for years.

great value

I really like this jacket. Far superior to my old softshell in warmth as well as wind shedding. Not surprised though as that was simply 1st gen schoeller extreme and nothing else. The left pocket top stitching is just slightly bunched, although it was worse on the first color I got (brown) so I returned it (was very painless) and got black, still bunched vs the right but can't really tell w the black. Fit is cut slightly larger than expected, but medium would likely have been too small for layering. All in all a steal of deal at this price!

Performance with style

Like the other reviewers, I wanted a soft shell that had more casual versatility than my other pieces. Cloudveil has filled this gap nicely with the Headwall. Compared to the Gamma SV, stretch and breathability is not as good for hiking but the Headwall blocks wind better, has better neck protection (higher collar with cinch) and the hand pockets are placed lower for easy access. The fit is great and allows for a midweight base layer and a light fleece underneath but it tends to run large. I am 6ft with 42” chest and usually take a large from others but the medium fits me perfectly. I am stoked with this jacket – from peak to street. Well worth 250 bucks.

LOVE IT!

I bought this jacket because it looked like a slick, functional town jacket, and it is. But I love the way it goes from street to slope, not to sound like an advertisement. I never take this off and love the slight western design theme and the fleece backing inside.

Bargain

I bought this in Tarmac as I travel a lot for work and want to travel light, but hit the slopes if I can. It's smart enough to wear to meetings and on the slopes it is warm and very water-resistant. Bargain price for great jacket.
