Chaco ZX/1 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

Chaco made the ZX/1 Unaweep Sandals with a unique double strap that's light on the foot and provides an extra level of comfort for men. Chaco's Vibram Unaweep outsole has a self-cleaning lug pattern that offers steady footing on dry trails or river beds. The ZX/1 Sandal's straps consider a foot with more contours than the average. These straps allowing more space for your foot and the larger straps add comfort. Chaco kept their BioCentric contoured footbed, but developed durable polyurethane with more air bubbles to cut weight. The ZX/1 basket-weave strap configuration features an open toe so you can wear the sandals over neoprene booties in the river or with socks at camp.

Bottom Line: When you've got feet that look like they have been working on the mountain for years with calluses and bigger contours, the Chaco's Z/X1 offers a double-strap design that is more accommodating than the smaller, ¾-inch strap.

Way to go Chaco!

By: Daniel Klein (1)

I'm 55 years old and up until recently I've never been a sandal person. My wife has worn sandals for years and she is always on about how light and airy they are. So I finally broke down and ordered the Chaco ZX/1 sandals. I simply could not believe the comfort and fit. They now go on my feet first thing in the morning and they don't come off until I'm ready to retire. Now that's a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much! In fact, I have grown so dependent on them that I now have a backup pair of the Z/1s because I can't ever see being without them. Way to go Chaco!

Worth Every Penny

My Chaco sandals have become my favorite pair of footwear for several reasons. The first are fit and comfort. I have very wide (4E) feet, and it is very difficult to find sandals that accommodate my big ol’ paddles. The wide version gives me plenty of room. Secondly, the support. I wear orthotics in most of my shoes and boots due to severe overpronation; thus, sandals are typically not the greatest choice for my particular foot mechanics. The Chacos are masterfully shaped and give me far more support than I’ve ever experienced with any sandal, better even than some shoes. I can walk long distances in them and don’t feel that I lack support at all. Third, Chaco's customer service is simply outstanding. The sole of one of my first pair started peeling off at the toe shortly after I received them. I was really bummed because I was leaving on a week long fishing trip to Canada in a few days and really wanted them for the water. I called Chaco and explained the problem. Not only did they do a “rush” custom-order to get me a new pair, the overnight-shipped them to me to make sure I had my sandals for my trip. Now THAT’S service. The second pair has been just fine, with no quality problems whatsoever—I think I just was unlucky the first time. This kind of treatment of their customers is why I am a loyal Chaco fan and willingly pay the asking price for their product. Even though they’re expensive, they are still a good value.

Chaco ZX1

These sandals are as comfy as my last pair, which I wore into the ground, and even more stylish with the 2 trap split instead of the single strap. I love the new Unaweep sole, it's got an even better tread than the previous pair I had.

Best Sandal Ever!

I have tried the ZX/1 on for that several years it seems and never bought them. The arch support was always too much for me to handle in the store. Then I was told that the arch would lower after some wear. Sure enough, about two weeks later, that is what happened. These Chaco’s put Teva to shame. Thank you Chaco inventor, you have changed my life, and my feet thank you.

I feel like a Roman Senator!

These are really great sandals! Very comfortable, unique design. I ordered one size smaller because I have a narrow foot. The hefty sole should last a long time. Although you can't really slip them on, I use my index finger to slide the back strap over my heel and all is well.

Chaco ZX/1

I had the Chaco Z/2 with the extra toe strap for about a year, and although they provided plenty of stability and support, I could never get used to the straps. When these guys presented the Chaco recycle program, where your old sandals go to someone in need and you get a percentage off of your new ones, I figured that was a perfect time to try some new Chacos. I just wore my new ZX/1 sandals on a kayak trip this past weekend and absolutely loved them. For me, the absence of the toe strap was way less confining and the two small straps instead of one large strap provided a lot better fit and a lot more comfort. I hope this helps someone make up their mind.

ZX/1 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

The fit and function of these sandals is even better than their predecessors. The kelp color is a very dark green and has a narrow burgundy border. Conseqently, it goes with most outfits.

Some damn good shoes

My old Tevas wore out and wouldn't stay on my feet anymore, so I decided to try out these Chacos that I kept hearing about. The sandals that rarely wear out, and can easily be fixed if they do. I had also heard that once you get them, it would take a while for you to get the straps adjusted so that they are actually comfortable, but the comfort afterwards would be worth it. I ordered a pair here, they sent them, and after a little trouble with the post office, (they wouldn't give me a notice to pick them up, even though they had come in days ago), I finally had my sandals. It took a little figuring to understand how the straps worked, pulling here to make this part go down and such, but I realized later that there was a crystal-clear diagram on the box, as well as, I think, one on a pamphlet inside the box. Anyways, after a few days, they were perfectly comfortable, and I wear them every chance I get.

Stylish - not the most comfortable

These look really good in person, fit nice, but have a bit too large of an arch-support for me. If you need a good looking sandal with a lot of grip, but don't care about comfort, this is the shoe for you.
