CamelBak M.U.L.E. Hydration Pack -3L - 2008
Secure your bike pump, tools, and an energy bar in the CamelBak MULE Hydration Pack, fill the 100oz OMEGA HydroTanium reservoir, and hit the trail. CamelBak designed this pack specifically for mountain biking, although it's an excellent choice for hiking and extended trail runs as well. The MULE's Dynamic Suspension harness system assures that your time on the trail will be comfortable. A durable splash-guard protects this animal from mud and tree-branch scrapes, and an external zip pocket, plus an MP3 pocket, store small essentials.
Bottom Line: Load up your MULE and get outside.
Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.
Tough and Large

I use this pack for running and it's indestructible. It has an extra large capacity with lots of little pockets. A Pocket or 2 in the front would be better, but if you're not in a hurry then there's no worry.
Muti-use

I was issued one of these camelbaks during OIF II with the Desert pattern. I used it for many different things; carrying extra small equipment like batteries to a small book and a few other small Items when I went on RnR leave. I still use it when I ride my bike and backpack around the Fort Campbell area. The MULE pack is cool on your back even on the hottest days, the ventilation slats on the pack itself are a nice touch and adds to the padding as well. The only down side I have found is that if you fill it up too much, the hydration bladder has a tendency to leak

I've used the M.U.L.E. for mountain biking and hiking for 3 years and it has always served me well. Perfect size to hold enough food, gear for a 3-4 hour ride, but not big/bulky. Would not change a thing on it.

Will this pack be big enough to carry a pair of dress shoes and work clothes w/out the water in it?

Yeah, it is. Your shirt and pants might get a little wrinkled if you aren't careful, but that's about it.As long as the bladder is empty, but if it's full they will not fit.

Love my M.U.L.E.

I gave this pack 4 stars because I wish the main pocket was just a little bigger. But, I have used this pack a lot and it is a great day trip bag. Over last summer I worked for a conservation corps and I used this pack for my chain saw bag. The MULE held my saw accessories,3L of water, a small first aid, a small lunch and some snacks. This bag is tough and I highly reccomend it!
Perfect small day pack

This pack is the perfect size and has the perfect amount of features for a small daypack. For me it works 100% how I need it to for mountain biking. It carries plenty of water in the 100oz bladder, and I have never once had a bad taste left from it... Also the bladder is super almost indestructible, the best out there. My only bother is that sometimes I feel like the pack as a whole doesn't hold much cargo, but honestly it holds plenty. I've taken a jacket, snacks, full bladder and more in it at times... Not that you need all that much for ripping down singletrack anyways.
Yeah, I just want to know if I could put lets say alittle crystal
Yeah, I just want to know if I could put lets say alittle crystal light in it, cuz sometimes on a empty stomach I dont like the taste it gives off when the water is very cold, and or warm.

you can put whatever you want in any bladder. however anything with sugars and proteins in it will mold quickly. if you need flavor, and electrolytes i'd put nuun tablets in it. http://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=cl&mi=10060&pw

I purchased the camelbak several weeks ago, in fact I am drinking out of it right now. I find it very convienient when I really need a drink, I usually freeze half and when I am ready to use it I fill it up. It stays cold for long time, even when I forgot it in my closed up truck for several hours. Only thing that I dont like at times, is the taste at times it has a plastic type taste, but this thing is better than most things I had in the past.I would recommend it to anyone that likes water.
my wife loves this pack

My wife and I bike a lot and she wanted to be able to hold more water then her other camelbak could. This isn't the hugest but she didn't want a huge pack, so for her it's perfect.

This pack is really the best cross-country biking pack I've ever had. It holds all the stuff you want for a day on the trails, raincoat, water, food, etc. Doesn't get stuck on branches, doesn't flop around, doesn't get all sweaty, it's awesome. If only I could still ride.
The Gold Standard

I think as everyone else's reviews pretty much say the MULE is the gold standard of MTB packs. Plenty of room for the essentials, yet rugged with good air circulation.
If it gets dirty, sweaty, and smelly just throw it in the washing machine and it will come out good as new.

The M.U.L.E. has worked great for me, although not using it for biking I have taken it on many trips to Jackson Hole and to Fremont Canyon. It works great for boarding, packs everything I need for the whole day snacks, ipod, holds shedded layers, etc. Also works great for a short hike to the crag unless i need all of my gear in which case the bladder just pops out and fits right in my larger pack.
well thought up

Since the mule has been out for so long and each generation getting better and better, I think this one is getting almost perfect. The shoulder strap had rings so when your loading the water they don't get in the way, the pack is very compressible or non to make way for more clothing. Much better than previous models where you had to yank the thing up and down to get the bladder in. Now you just zip it up and its good to go.
Nice pack

It did it's job very well. It's comfortable and had ample space for caring light gear.

Love the straps to get lots of layers packed away as needed. Nice features for keys & etc with specialized pockets. Little on the heavy side but not to the extent that I'm worried about it. Built to last and it's amazing what you can cram/strap/stuff into this pack for a day.
Would have given 5 stars, but guess I'm little picky on the weight. Great for riding and momentum activities with the secure fit.
gets the job done.

The M.U.L.E is an excellent bag. There is plenty of space for extra gear and it holds a ton of water. Partially fill the pack and freeze it the night before, and you will have cold water for hours. There are a couple of negatives. Water that is left in the hose after you drink gets hot, so you may want to blow it all back into the pack each time you finish drinking. The other downside is the pack is cut for a smaller frame than me, so I probably look a little silly wearing it. The waist strap is slightly too small for me, so I just use the chest strap(that barely reaches across my chest). I typically wear a waist size of about 48, and the waist strap is probably 3-5 inches too short for me. However, the strap is removable, and the chest strap is more than enough support to keep the bag from bouncing around too much when I am mountain biking. At first it seems a little small on such a large guy, but the lack of bulkiness make for a more comfortable ride.
Not For The Fast Movers

i had the mule years ago. the one thing i didn't like about it was the lack of front waist pockets. i ride fast and don't want to stop take the pack off and get a clif shot or bar. so i need food available at my fingertips to eat on flat sections or up hills where i can afford to take a hand off the bars and get something. the last thing i want to do is stop. this pack doesn't work for me.
