Black Diamond Anarchist with Avalung Winter Pack - 1953-2563 cu in

The Black Diamond Anarchist Winter Pack comfortably carries all your gear for a day of backcountry skiing, and it can save your life with its integrated Avalung. Couloir Magazine was so impressed they gave it the Design Innovation award. The shoulder-mounted mouth piece is easy to access if you get caught in a slide, and it increases your chances of survival by helping you breathe under the snow. If you're the one searching, pull off this pack, open the front avie pocket, and quickly remove your shovel and probe. The Anarchist Pack with Avalung is available in a 32L size for half-day tours and a 42L size when you're in the backcountry from sun up to sun down.

Bottom Line: Be safer in the backcountry with help from the Avalung-equipped Black Diamond Anarchist Winter Pack.

I Like It.

Sturdy, well-designed pack. It fits me well and doesn't interfere with my helmet as others have noted. I've found it comfortable to wear and large enough for day trips in the backcountry, it wouldn't be big enough for me to carry all that I'd like for a overnight trip. The external, easily accessed compartment for shovel and probe is a nice feature. I like having the avalung available without the hassle of an extra piece of equipment. I have the solo avalung too but I hardly ever wore it, too much gear to get tangled up for my tastes, this all in one approach works much better for me.

Black Diamond Anarchist Winter Pack. What is the organge piece...

Black Diamond Anarchist Winter Pack. What is the organge piece of webbing under the pack lid used for?

Flag

That, my dear consumer, is used to pin down a coiled rope under the lid. also useful for temporarily stashing a jacket. This feature is quite common on mountaineering packs

I really wanted to like this pack

I think that the range of features and the integrated avalung are great, but I just couldn't get it to fit right. I measured my back in the manner described and came up with a measurement of 18". I bought the pack in the smaller size and in spite of that, the back of the pack still came up very high behind my neck and restricted my movement if I was wearing a helmet. I gave it a '3' because of the fit, but if you are the right size/shape then it looks like a great pack. If you are shorter then make sure you demo in a shop first.

avalung pack

i would agree with everything the other review states but i just wont to add the only downfall i have found with this pack. the intake manifold for the avalung sits right on my shoulder bone! after a few hours with it on with a full and heavy pack it does begin to hurt but with that said it just might be that i don't have it set properly and i also have a separated shoulder that didn't heel properly! i will say this pack by far is the best i have ever owned and i recommend it to everyone that takes their backcountry adventures to the next level! if ur searching for a do everything pack that is tight on the body and dosen't move BUY THIS PACK! all my friends that have seen it are buying it!

Sweet Backcountry Pack

I got this pack for this season.. Hopefully I'll slay more pow this season than any before. This may be the best designed backcountry pack I've seen. The access pouch in the back securely stows my shovel, probes, and pinflags for quick access. The pack has an integrated hydration system with a zippered sleeve to store the bite valve on the shoulder strap which is also key. When not in use it is concealed. The pack is obviously designed by folks who spend winter outdoors slaying rather than in a Lab trying to figure out what we need in a touring pack. The icing on the cake is the integrated Avalung. In my opinion, if you have a transceiver on you should have an Avalung as well. I will recommend this pack to everyone I tour with!!
