Backcountry.com Cocona Trail Sock - 3 Pair

Slip on the Backcountry.com Cocona Trail Socks and pound the trail in remarkable hiking comfort. Backcountry.com blended Cocona polyester with nylon and spandex to give your footsies ultimate comfort of motion, durability, and odor control. Cocona infuses its fabrics with activated carbon from recycled coconut shells which may sound odd, but the result is a material that breathes well, keeps your feet cool, and controls odors (don't worry, you won't smell like Tom Yum Kha).

Bottom Line: Stretchy, durable, moisture-wicking, environmentally conscious hiking socks from Backcountry.com and Cocona.

Good For Fall Foliage Bike trip

XC biking with these has been amazing. I enjoy the comfort that these socks provide on a 50 mile journey through Japans mountains. However, I am really disappointed that I only received one pair.

Do these Cocona socks insulate when wet?

Do these Cocona socks insulate when wet?

Insulation when wet is not one of the features of this particular sock. If you're looking for this especially, you may want to try a Merino sock - like the Lorpen Merino Light Hiker Shorty Sock or the Fox River Wick Dry Off Road Light Weight 1/4 Sock. (Wow, how's that for a name?)

Great socks, but not as good as merino

By:
November 9, 2008

These socks are light, comfy and fit very well. I have used them for biking, hiking and just walking around and I must say that they are not as good as BC.com's Merino socks. Although superior to cotton socks, these Cocona socks are great looking and fit well, however do not have the odor resistance of the Merino socks. I would personally suggest spending the bit more and get the Merino ones offered by Backcountry.

poor to so-so

not impressed overall. i think it's more in the manufacturing than the fiber. these were tight in the foot (and no, i don't have fat feet), didn't stay put, and a hole quickly formed at the seam on each sock of the pair. i was constantly uncomfortable on a 15 mile hike in the bitteroots, don't think i'll be trying these again. as far as the cocona fiber, it was fine. it was about 54F, not a sweaty feet day for me, so i'll need to comment on that another day.

Thrived at Eco Primal Quest - Montana

550 Miles of Trekking, Mountain Biking, Mountaineering, Snowshoeing, Kayaking, Rock Climbing and more through record soaking wet Spring run-off conditions. The Coconas held up beautifully with the plethora of footwear required for this ultra-endurance race, providing a form-fitting, friction-reducing layer to keep our feet free of debilitating blisters. Team Nike ACG / Gore-Tex gives the Cocona Trail Sock a 5-Star rating!

These socks are made for running I'll consider them if I was you! The guys at Backcountry know what they are doing. These socks are made for running, I run a lot and wear them a lot, I wish they had them in white.

backcountry's cocona trail socks - sweet

By:
August 15, 2008

I had no problems like the other poster described and I really put these socks to the test in a 24 hour race, of which I was on my feet constantly. They held up very well, did not get stinky and I have since done some really long 20+ mile hikes in them with no problems. I love the fit, they tend to make your shoes fit a little better with their light padding/cushioning. cute goat on the back too.

Good bike sock

By:

I have hiked and biked with the Cocona trail sock with no problems what so ever. I gave a pair to my girlfriend and she complained that they're hot, but she complains about everything (I think it's her bike shoes that are hot). Anyway, I love these socks. Great things is they're fairly inexpensive plus backcountry's return policy is the best in the industry. If you're concerned about the Cocona material, try backcountry's merino wool sock.

Good for some days, not for others

By:
August 5, 2008

I really wanted to like these socks, and on one day, I did. And then on the next day I hated them. I'll tell you why. These socks are great at keeping your feet dry, keeping the funk down, and being a cozy sock. If your day consists mostly of sitting, with an occasional trip somewhere, these are great socks. On the other hand, if your day consists of standing for long periods, or doing a lot of walking, or hiking, these socks will destroy your feet. The problem lies in the cocona fabric. It is designed to provide more surface area on each thread by bonding carbon to the polyester. This is fine until you put an 8 hour workdays' worth of pressure on that fabric, then it starts to give you little micro cuts, and your whole foot feels raw. I could actually pull my skin taught and see where these little cuts were. So long story short, good for sitting (would be a KILLER dress sock) but bad for standing or hiking.
