Big Agnes Moon Hill Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down w/ Mummy Pad

I got two of these bags recently and tested them on a trip to VT with my girlfriend. When we set up camp it was 7 deg F, and that was around midnight, so I imagine it got a bit colder than that. She got a little cold and grabbed one of our 25+ deg bags and layered them while sleeping in a base layer and sweater (and then was fine aside from cold feet). I just had on boxers and boot liners and just this one bag, and aside from my feet being a little cooler than I would like in the AM (not uncomfortable though), I was nice and toasty except for my nose (go figure). I read another person's review that said they couldn't sleep on their side. I am a side sleeper and had no problems at all at 6' tall and around 175 lbs so I don't know what the case was there. I was a little thrown off by the lack of down on the bottom until I realized that down needs air to work anyway so having none underneath is fine (and it didn't just work in theory). They are a little on the expensive side, but if you catch them on sale they are well worth the $.

I like the integrated pad, I don't think its very hard to take it in and out of the bag or inflate. The bag is definitely snug. Im 6'2" and pretty thin, I got the regular length bag and I can move around in it ok and the length fits. if you want to have anything in your bag with you like your boots though you may want a bigger bag. I can fit mine in next to my chest pretty comfortably but I wouldn't want the bag any smaller.

This is a sick sleeping bag and is super toasty warm. I notice people tend to have bad reviews for Big agnes because they misunderstand that they are not your normal sleeping bag! The bag has no insulation on the bottom. This is smart since there is no poin really since as soon as you lay on it, you have flattened any insulation there anyways. The pad is what keeps you warm on the ground. SO Big agnes slapped in a sleeve instead at the bottom to put the pad in. Never did I roll around and lose the pad from under me. Such a confort as compared to any other bag I ever had. It is kind of a love it or hate it system though. Some complain that is limits mobility in your bag or you cannot sleep on your side. I say they are babies! I am 270 lbs, and a big kid in the shoulders and gut. I was comfy on my side, back, stomach, anyway. Granted I was pretty snug in a few positions but I am not dancing in my bag, I am just trying to sleep and stay warm. This combo is a winner. The pad is tough, and rolls nicely. I might get an air core too for something lighter on the summer trips, but for 0 degrees, you will be toasty with the heavier pad. Big anges seems to rate a bag at 0 degrees, for example, and then they seem to out perform that by 5-10 degrees. Cant totally rely on that, but that is my experience with this one. The zipper is strong, goes about 3/4 down the side of the bag and zips in nicely into another if you get left and right zip bags. The best testament to these bags is my wife! She has had trouble finding a bag that fits her hips and keep her warm too. Yeah we could get a crap-bag from wal-town, but we wanted something that will work and is light. This bag won her over and she does not complain about being cold! Woohoo!

This is a great bag setup! Bought a pair for my wife and I and we absolutely love them. They have more room than most mummy's and are plenty warm. I'd dare to say that 0degree is a little on the modest side for this bag. Mine got a little wet during a drenching and dried very, very quickly. They compact extremely small in an OR compression sack. We love the design of having an integrated pad! It's one of the best things about this bag! Way to go BA!

Very versatile bag. When too hot, it has a decent length of zipper and you can even use it upside down if you take the pad out the sleeve, leaving just the bottom cloth layers over you. The Hinman pad it comes with is too heavy, replaced it with the InsulMat Max-Thermo, which is cheaper, but not as good as the BA Insulated AirCore pad.

I have taken this places from the snowbanks on Mt. Whitney, to the freezing desert nights in Death Valley. Good-quality sleeping bag whose only flaw is that, because it is 0 C, it can be too hot to use in 30 C+.

This bag is OK if you are a dead mummy - always on your back. I tried it out in my living room (thank goodness)and tried to turn sideways. I turned but the bag did not due to the stiff Hinman pad. The result was uncomfortable compression. I sent the bag back the next day. Unless you are very thin, you will not have room to side sleep in any BA mummy bag. Be aware.

The bag itself delivers on all fronts. Like many quality down products, it doesn't seem like there's enough fill to actually keep you warm. After a few minutes in the bag, you're as toasty as you could ask for. My only gripe is that it is not for anyone with large shoulders. Once zipped in, I cannot move in the bag at all. I also have to squish myself into the bottom of the bag just to get it zipped all the way up. Great for staying warm, not so great for people that toss or like to sleep on their side. I do have broad shoulders, but wouldn't consider myself oversized.

Picked up this bag and pad on the SAC deal. For the price it's a great bag. The pad is tapered to fit the shape of the bag and fits tight inside the sleeve. I used it for the cool nights at high altitude during mid/late June and was actually too warm when temps were above 40. Packing and unpacking the bag frequently meant either taking the pad out of the sleeve or rolling the bag and pad together. The latter was tough fitting into the stuff sack but easier than de-sleeving every day. If you're staying put in chilly weather, this is a super comfy warm bag.
