Big Agnes Clearview Air Pad

Save space and weight in your backpack by carrying the Big Agnes Clearview Air Pad during summer and ultralight journeys. The rectangular Clearview gives you 2.5 inches of cushiness yet rolls down smaller than a 12-inch sub sandwich. (Your sandwich likely weighs more than the Clearview, too.) Inflate this air pad and slip it into the back sleeve of your Big Agnes sleeping bag for a comfy night's sleep.

Bottom Line: You don't have to choose between cushiness and compact when you pack and sleep on the Big Agnes Clearview Air Pad.

not as good as the insulated air core

By:
September 12, 2008

I own two insulated air core mats and love them. I tried this one out as the weight savings was intriguing. The mat was comfortable, but feels more like a durable pool floaty than other mats. My main complaint about the bag is how sticky it is; I have a nice down bag, and the bag sticks to well to the mat. Bottom line: If you are counting ounces, this would be a nice addition to your gear, if you can deal with the sticky surface.

Comfort in Asia

By:
August 26, 2008

Anyone who's traveled in Asia will know that the beds in hotels are not the most comfortable. I travel specifically in Southern China for 2 weeks+ and a good sleep is vital. I bought this pad and actually put it on top of the "mattress" in my hotel because the beds there are so hard that I have bruises from sleeping on my side. This pad worked wonderfully! It was small, light, and provided comfort all night, not losing air. I also bought the cocoon silk mummy liner sheets and put those over the air pad. It was wonderful. My only gripe is that I bought petite size and felt like I would easily roll off the pad and needed a bit more width. I'm a small person, 5'1" and 105 lbs. so I thought petite would work, but I think I should have just got the regular size.

Comfort in Asia

By:
August 26, 2008

If you've traveled much in Asia then you know that the beds even in hotels are not very comfortable. I'm a side sleeper and I usually wake up feeling stiff and bruised after sleeping on the 1 inch foam pad on top of the wooden beds. I travel to Asia regularly for 2 weeks+ at a time and needed a way to get a comfortable, good nights sleep. This pad was the perfect solution and I placed it right on top of the thin foam pad on the hotel bed. It was small, light, and didn't lose air during the night.I put the cocoon silk mummy liner over the pad; great combo. I slept great; it was a trip saver and my fellow travelers were jealous. My only gripe is that I should have purchased the regular size instead of petite. Being 5'1" and 105 lbs. I thought the petite would be fine. But I found myself feeling like like I might roll off and needed a bit more width.

As a tour biker...

By:

Packs incredibly small and lightweight. Very reasonably priced too. I will use this pad on every summery trip less than seven nights. I'm still afraid I'll "pop" it on an extended or cold trip and spend too many nights on the ground. Haven't yet though. By the way I use the mummy not rectangle version. My single gripe is an odd one. This pad comes with the sturdy reliable screw valve you may be used to with a thermarest pad. While this is a great valve, You have to blow it up and get your moist breff all up in it. I wanted to be able to fill it with an adapter on my frame pump, but I am excited to see the science experiment that's bound to occur through the clearview material!

Big Agnes Clearview Air Pad: very light without compromising comfort

By:
August 18, 2008

I'm very happy with the Big Agnes Clearview Air Pad. Four of my kids slept on this pad this weekend and all 4 raved about it. The regular size (20 x 72) fit inside their Big Agnes Gunn Creek sleeping bag slots. The pad was easy for them to blow up and very comfortable to sleep on. The pad folded down very small and was easily stored inside the sleeping bag stuff sack along with their Big Agnes Air Core pillows without straining the sacks' seams.

Big Agnes Clearview

This is the lightes Pad you can find (except not having one). The Pad lives up to the name it carries, you will not feel any rocks period! I have 5, and my kids can blow these up in less than 5 minutes. One word of warning, keep the DEET spray away from this pad. My son got some on one and it fused the plastic together. Ended up with a hole trying to pull it apart.

Great pad

By:
August 4, 2008

I took this pad on a bike ride across NY state that involved a week of camping in parks and school yards. The pad does a great job; it is certainly comparable to a good ThermaRest but it takes up no extra space. The pad slips into the Big Agnes sleeping bag pocket and when deflated, stores with the bag in the bag's stuff sack. It does not need to be stored separately. The only minor complaint is that you have to blow it up all by your lonesome. It does not self-inflate. I would highly recommend this pad if you already have a Big Agnes sleeping bag.

For a great nights sleep

By:
July 16, 2008

I just had this pad up in the adirondacks and I've got nothing but good things to say about it. It packs down smaller than a nalgene bottle and weighs less than most 3/4 length pads. My tent mate even commented on how comfortable it looked and said I didn't move once during the night so I must have been comfortable. Our campsite was very rooty and I didn't feel a thing. I'm 5'2, 130lbs and the petite worked great for me. I can't comment on it's long term durability yet so far so good.
