Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Rectangular

Love this pad. My friends call it the "Pool Toy" -- it's so big and comfortable -- but they're just jealous. I've used this for long expeditions and never had any problems -- just the best backcountry sleep ever.

I sleep so much better on this puppy than on a 1.5" pad. It's simply a very comfortable sleep. The reason for 4 starts is that I've had to return mine for a leak - well, it leaked and I repaired it, and then after a season of using the patch another leak happened. The material is a bit thin and I worry a tad about it using it for long treks in cold weather.

This is my first time using an inflatable mattress. Used it backpacking in the Sespe Wilderness (California) with temps around 50 degrees. The pad is plush with 2 inches thick compared to Thermarest's 1.5 inches. Very lightweight and packs small. Comes with a stuff sack which is a plus. A big difference with other inflatable pads is that you have to blow it up yourself. It is not self inflating. This should take you around 3 minutes.

I recently used the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad on a 6 day backpacking trip, where the night time temperatures were around 15 degrees. I was never cold at night, so this pad must have been doing it's job! On top of that, it is just over a pound (I have the small) and packs up to about the size of a nalgene. It takes awhile to blow up, but it is worth it - this pad is awesome!

This sleeping pad gave me the best night's rest I have ever had in the backcountry so far. The few extra breaths needed to fill up the pad are worth the extra inches of comfort. I used this in 20 degree temperatures and didn't notice any problems keeping the pad inflated.

I try to keep my pack lightweight, but this is the best mat i have ever used. i bought one for myself, it was so great that my wife made me buy one for her. i recently tried the clearview, but it was just not as comfy. A+ mat!

The Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad is the most comfortable sleeping pad I have ever used! It might take a couple extra breaths to inflate; however, it is well worth the effort. Blow it up, toss it down and snooze - this sleeping pad is amazing. It's comfortable, insulating and reasonably compact-able (I have the long/wide). Positve experience so far. Have had the Big Agnes since June and have slept on it while backpacking, for 9 days at my brother`s house and then for a 2 week trip where I was couchsurfing, and usually used the Agnes on the floor. I`m sold on it for it`s comfort. This will sound over-promotional, but I`ve been using floor mats my whole camping life and never slept as well until Agnes. I`m 6-3 and the long is perfect. The wide might have been nice, but the regular has been working fine. My only concern is that one day it will puncture, but that hasn`t happened yet.

August 2, 2008 Worked well in Alaska this summer. Probably need to be careful around rocks or sharp objects. Did not slide off even once. Did the job with no hassle and more comfort than a solid pad.

Let me preface this by saying that I sleep terribly while camping. We're talking about 3hrs on an average night. This pad actually reduces pressure points enough that I can get about double my average hours of sleep on a given night. It's light, it's compact, it's good.

This is one comfy ground pad. A big enough size that the average bear doesn't have to worry about falling off but small and compact enough that it fits into the smallest of packed spaces. Make sure you're sitting down when you inflate this bad boy 'cause it takes a while but is well worth it.

I ordered two Wide/Long pads for my mom and dad and they love them. My parents are in early 50s and a getting into camping again. They needed a sleeping pad that was very comfortable, yet compact enough to fit in their BMW motorcycle compartments. I have a Thermarest Pro Light 3 pad and let them try it, but it was just too small and uncomfortable for them. I personally like my little orange pad, but after laying on one of these babies I know I will have to buy one for myself in the future! These pads took longer to inflate than expected (5 minutes each), but it is worth the effort for a such a comfortable sleep. Durability isn't an issue and both Backcountry.com and Big Agnes stand behind their products. The two wide/long pads fit perfectly in the MSR Elbow Room 3 Tent and make it possible to camp in luxury without adding extra bulk or weight. Highly recommend this product! Backcountry.com is the greatest!

I agree that this pad is super comfortable and warm, especially for the ridiculously low weight. I have never slept more comfortably (used to use a ThermaRest Prolite 4, about the same weight as the Insulated Air Core REM). Caveat Emptor, however: one night I slept on rough ground and punctured the bag on top of a root that did not puncture the tent floor itself. I was a bit surprised how easy it was to puncture, I think significantly easier than it would have been to puncture a ThermaRest. That said, the included patch kit worked like a charm and I have not had a problem with punctures or leaks since. I am currently ordering another (full-length, full-rectangular) Big Agnes pad for myself, so the puncture resistance was not a deal-breaker for me... this is still my favorite pad.

I have used this pad for 3 years and it is the most durable comfortable pad ever! Packs small, sleeps HUGE! Best piece of gear I had with me on the PCT last year. This summer, Greenland!

If you have a Therm-a-Rest Pro-lite 4, you might be interested to know that this pad packs down smaller weighs the same amount or less, and gives you 1 inch more padding/insulation. I don't use this pad with a Big Agnes bag, so that might help, but I have never been cold with this pad, and I have used it on top of snow in the winter, and in high alpine conditions in the summer. For the weight, thickness, and insulation, this is a great pad.

I combine this with my Big Agnes lost ranger which is a perfect setup for people who sleep on their side or toss and turn at night. The Big Agnes sleeping bags keep the pad beneath you. This pad compacts very well and is lightweight.

24 ozs and 3 inches thick was what first caught my eye. Yes, this pad is about as comfortable as you can get in the backcountry. Not hard to blow up, and great to use with my BA Lost Ranger bag. Make sure you blow it up quite firm otherwise your body heat will leech into the ground. These are rated only to about 35 F, and that may be a stretch. Wasn't able to sleep due to cold on a 38 F morning. Still like to use it though and will bring along a light closed cell pad next time I'm expecting temps that low.

I tried this for the first time last weekend. Sides were too flexible, tended to fall over. Not very happy with it. I did not fill it all the way, that may have helped.

I do not like sleeping on the hard ground. This pad was great. I put it on top of a Thermarest and the two combined made me think I was at home on my sleep number bed. Definitely recommend.

I absolutely loved sleeping on the Big Agnes Insulated AIr Core pad. It helped keep me warm on a 20 degree F night and made me sleep like a baby. Very plush, lightweight, compact.

I took this pad on the deer hunt with me this year. According to the GPS, our base camp was at 9.856 feet, and it was so cold when the sun went down, you could watch the puddles ice over. I spent 4 nights in toasty comfort, thanks to the Big Agnes insulated Air Core pad, while my buddies shivered on their Sprawl-Mart specials. Top notch pad! I'll never camp without it.

Extremely comfortable. Easy to inflate and deflate. Laid it out on some what of a rocky ground on a cool night and was warm and comfortable.

Great sleeping pad. Some labor to blow up at +10,000, but well worth it once laying down in comfort looking at stars and not worrying about hard spots on the ground. Buy insulated model for a little more $.

The 2 1/2" pad far excels any thinner pad for comfort. The old bones don't touch the ground. The compact size is another reason we chose the Big Agnes. The material doesn't wick up dampness like some other top brands. We were "high and dry." However, they did have a tendency to "tent surf" because of the slippery material, but the comfort far outweighs that.

my girlfriend and I both bought this pad, which is definitely very comfortable compared to my thin thermarest. however, although I was warm using it, she has had trouble staying warm through the night. She uses the full Big Agnes system with a bag and pad, so she has no insulation under her bag other than the sleeping pad. I have a different brand bag so I'm surrounded by down insulation plus the bag. My point is, if you really like to be super warm at night, you might want to consider the colder rated pad or a thermarest, because they are solid foam and probably a little better for insulation.

A lightweight backpackers dream. The Insulated Air Core REM Sleeping Pad is not only light and easy to carry but gives a great nights sleep. Worth every penny.

Used this only 2 times so far... Very comfortable for a side sleeper... very light considering the comfort level... No issues with leakage or durability as yet...Did not care for the BA pad sleeve sleep system...you can't sit up or use your bag by the fire to stay warm... But this pad rocks when used conventionally...

This is a really superlight pad that packs really small and inflates rapidly. I even used it in Zion as a flotation device for my pack crossing water. Keeps you really warm too! For the price this is the only sleeping pad you need!

Having spent the first night of my recent camping trip sleeping on the bare earth (well there was a tarp and tent beneath me) due to an unfortunate accident with my wifes air mattress (I gave her my new sleeping pad to sleep on). She was pretty comfortable, although she is a pillow top princess when it comes to camping. I managed to get the REM sleeping pad for at least one night of comfortable sleep. The pad inflates with about 30 big breaths, and is well constructed. I'm a pretty big guy, and this pad supported my weight much better than some of the Therm-a-Rest gear I've used in the past. I should add that I was using a Big Agnes Lost Ranger bag with this pad, so thanks to the cleaver pouch on the bottom of the sleeping bag the pad stayed under me the whole night. Overall I rated the pad a 4 (a 5 being the Aero Bed my wife managed to inflate in our tent). If you're strictly a back-packing, eat your food from aluminum pouch camper, this is a very well designed, very compressible, and very light sleeping solution. I will definitely continue using and buying Big Agnes products.

I have previously used the Thermarest Prolite 4 for packability and weight. I went to the Big Agnes in hope of something more comfortable with similar packability and weight. My first night in the Smokies we had an 8 degree night with winds about 35mph. Snow was blowing in the AT shelter, yet I had the most comfortable night I have ever spent in an AT shelter. The 21/2 inch pad was wonderful. My second night out I got another wonderful nights sleep. I always inflate my pads and hang my down bags in between trips. I noticed that my Ins. Air Core was losing air in just two nights use. This durability factor greatly disappoints me in that I guess I have to do a repair to find the leak. I am going back to my Thermarest because durability is a big factor for me. I am also really easy with my stuff. I use a Montbell super stretch down bag, so I have to be easy. I don't know if other users have experienced similar quick leaks or not.

Great Pad! The following week after receiving the pads, we went on a three day trip into a wilderness area. Wind chill below 0, temps between 0-5 degrees. Slept warm, not a hint of cold while using this equipment. You guys are the best!

Get two bags with these pads and zip em together. 'nuff said.

I have taken this on two camping trips so far and it has been great. I mostly sleep on my side and after a couple of nights in a row on my old Thermarest, my hip bones and shoulders would be pretty sore and I would toss and turn. The Big Agnes is super comfortable, packs down small, and is totally worth the 1-2 minutes of lung power to inflate.

Very comfy, used it for the first time at about 30 degrees. It was warmer that I thought it would be. I stayed warm all night long, and it was very comfortable. It packs down small and light. I would recommend this pad to most campers/backpackers.

I recently took a 3-night backpack over the Truchas Peaks in New Mexico. Most of the trip was over 11500 feet, and it was pretty chilly at night. The Big Agnes was amazingly comfortable and didn’t take up too much room in my pack. My only complaint was the time that it took to blow up.

This was great as it is so compact and perfect for a little added padding. Out in nature, things can be less than soft, but this REM sleeping pad made my naps nothing less than enjoyable. Two thumbs up.

This pad is a must for everyone who has trouble sleeping on the ground. It's a little heavier than other options and takes a few more breaths than a Thermarest, but if you want to sleep well this is it. No more shoulders or arms going numb from sleeping on my side against the ground. You can lay this thing on a bed of jagged rocks and you won't feel a single one. If there is one piece of gear that keeps me out longer or more often in the back country, this is the one that makes the difference.

I have had a Thermarest for years and have loved it (I still do) but was unhappy with its packability on backpacking trips. The insulated air core is great. I think I will still use my Thermarest for snow caves/winter camping but for backpacking it’s the Big Agnes all the way.

This is a sleeping pad to keep. I am 6'5" tall and weigh 230 lbs. I can sleep on my side, back, or any other position and not touch the ground. The fact that it is so light weight and packs so small is almost just bonus.

A great insulated air sleep pad. It has been inflated for two weeks and has not lost any air. The first pad I ordered would not hold air and was replaced promptly. I sleep very soundly on this pad and would recommend it over the Thermarest pad 1.25" which was my first pad. It saves a lot of space in my pack and also blows up in under two minutes.

My girlfriend and I both purchased the pad last spring they both worked great the first night but after that, mine started leaking and it was a very rough night of inflating it back up. I sent it back and got another one. They could not find the source of the leak. wo weeks latter the same thing happened to my girlfriend’s pad. That was not the end of it last week mine went flat again and I spent a cold night on snow. We have gone through 3 pads all of which no one could find a hole. I am fed up with having to pay to send the pad back each time. I think I am just going to buy a different brand. I would advise you to do the same they are not reliable for a long trip.

It has been a battle to find a comfortable yet compact sleeping pad. The Big Agnes REM is not only amazingly comfortable, it is compact and lightweight. This sleeping pad is a must for anyone seeking a good night’s rest on the trail.

I've gone through two of these pads now, the first one developed a leak after only one night on it. The second one worked for three nights before leaking. Both leaks could not be found. I will say that it is a very comfortable pad to sleep on, but horrible reliability.

Very cush, but somewhat of an ordeal to inflate and I didn't think it insulated very well.

We decided to trade out our old Therm-a-rests, because of weight and bulk. We were not disappointed. Big Agnes sleeping pads weren't just the usual air mattress. We slept well on them, and they insulated us from the ground. Even in the middle of July, we had mornings of 37F, in the Bob Marshall wilderness. Big Agnes sleeping pads were a great choice for us.

This item performed so well that I forgot I was sleeping 11,000 feet high away from any signs of civilization. If you want to sleep in luxury after 6 to 8 hours of grueling work you must buy this item.
