Arc'teryx Gamma MX Softshell Pant - Women's
The Arc'Teryx Women's Gamma MX Pant's softshell material takes on multiple alpine pursuits with minimal hassle. Improving on technical precision, the MX series won best product design from the Apex Awards, where the outdoor industry recognizes their leaders. Trademark Arc'teryx construction blesses the Gamma MX Pant with a gusseted crotch, high stitch count, and functional pocketing. Weather resistant, lightweight, and stretchy Polartec Powershield is made into a three-dimensional pattern to let this high altitude pant match your every move. Integrated kick patches protect the Gamma MX Pant from ski edges, crampons, and sharp rocks, as an adjustable cuff keeps snow away from your socks. A soft brushed interior adds warmth to this mountain moving pant.
Bottom Line: The award winning Gamma MX Pant is a hardcore pant with a soft interior.

Are these soft to the touch and some what waterproof? (as to keep your botton dry on a lift chair) can I use this as my top layer when I ski. I'm tall and need a 35-36 inseam, do they come that long?

Soft fleecy goodness on the inside and amazingly waterproof powershield material on the outside. These pants will keep your buns dry as long as you aren't wading. No softshell material can beat a good hardshell in terms of waterproofing and windproofing, but as long as you aren't falling all over the slopes, these will be more comfortable, and will let you breathe more. Unfortunately the inseam doesn't get much longer than a little over 32 inches. Click on the little ruler in the top right to get the exact numbers.

Why Arc Teryx is worth that $

I have tested a lot of different makes of outdoor gear and arc teryx seemingly has cornered the market on "the best" for the outdoor enthusiast. Sometimes I wonder if that reputation is based on price tag alone and the misgiven accolades by those who don't neccesarily have the experience to comment. In my opinion, there exists STIFF competition in the jacket arena for Arc Teryx, by the likes of Marmot and Mt.Hardwear, but these soft shell pants by Arc Teryx stand alone. They provide for unmatched moveability and wind resistance; over two layers, you're gonna be hot. They have held up well to 5-8 washes and maintain a resonably flattering fit (although I don't get too wrapped up in that). Without a doubt, the best softshell pants on the market.

This will be my first time ski / snowboarding. Will these keep me dry while i'm "sitting" in the snow?

Honestly...probably not. Softshell is great for dry snow conditions and when you're not really wallowing in the snow. For your first day snowboarding, you will definately be falling a lot. A better bet would be a combo like smartwool long underwear bottoms and a gore-tex shell pant like the Alpha LT pant or for something a little softer, the stingray pant...still gore-tex but softer so not quite as waterproof. Hope this helps.

I am 5'3" 110 lbs. Fit into the extra small size without problem. (The pants are a couple of inches too long for a petite size but with hiking or ski boots on, not a problem) Inner lining is soft. Can be worn with or without an additional base layer.
I am hiking Everest basecamp in the spring and plan to take these along. Also great for milder, dryer ski days. Lacks a little in the wind resistance department.

I use these pants for everything from hiking, climbing to doing anything in the snow. They are cute, flexible, soft, warm and durable. Just wish I had 5 more pairs in different colors!
