Fantastic pants!

I upgraded my ski pants this year to the Arc'teryx Scorpion pants. I was really glad I did. The first test for them was a trip to Copper Mountain Colorado. The snow was coming down and it was really windy and cold at the 12,500' peak. I was completely warm and dry with only a layer of light thermal underwear on under the pants. The fleece lining is very comfortable. Lower on the mountain, the temps and wind were much more mild and the fresh snow was really deep in places. The pants kept me very dry when sitting and the cords on the cuffs kept all that lovely powder out. The vents worked great when things heated up too. I really like the sitka color with my black Arc'teryx jacket too. Great style and great performing gear as usual.

Hi. I am considering Arcteryx Beta AR or Scorpion pants for...

Hi. I am considering Arcteryx Beta AR or Scorpion pants for on piste skiing and have some questions. What are the differences between the two stylles? I've heard that their sizing is slightly larger than indicated; I am 32 waist which falls between S and M - which would you recommend? Could I purchase both and keep the pair that fits better? Can I make use of the 50% discount coupon/number you sent me by email? Thanks for your help. Makoto

Great Pants!!!

I bought these pants because I was looking for a pair of pants to keep the wetness out my but since I sit down in the snow a lot since I am a snowboarder. Prior to my Arc'teryx, I had two pairs of Burton and Bonfires that simply were not up to the task. All this past winter, my Arcteryx scorpions completely keep the water out in all conditions. One day we snowboarded for six hours in constant moderate rain. Every piece of my clothing had leaks, except for the Arc'teryx scorpion pants. The pants were a medium and fit very well. I bought it off internet and the color was not quite what I expected, but I really like the color. The side zips that allow air flow do not have any mesh, so if you need to vent, you risk, getting snow in your pants. Overall great pants, would buy them again, no doubt

One of the best when fit and layering is correct

These are a great pair of ski pants, with a few cautions. The outer material is fantastic with the usual Gore-Tex water beading off effect and keeps out cooler winds and snow doesn't stick to the soft shell material. Movement in the pants is great, if they are sized correctly. People with bigger legs, be careful. These pants do fit a little small in the leg circumference department. Also, they are the most breathable pants ever. People who do a much hiking as skiing will be overjoyed while people who mostly stay in resort will maybe want to go with a heavier weight layering bottom on this pant. One more thing, might want to get an after market belt. I find the belt to be a little flimsy. Overall, a great pant for the more athletic and energetic skier.

Simple, strong, subtle

By: John Here(4)

These are a very solid front country pant but too heavy and too well insulated for back-country use. The monochrome is probably too subtle to appeal to most of the halfpipe set and lodge-sitting fashionista hipsters. But, after a full day on lift and hill, my lower half was dry: no sweat, no wet. The fabric feels tough enough to stand up to several seasons of chairlift abuse. I keep wanting to put my hands into pockets that don't exist.

Great, with problems though

By: Anonymous(9)

I have about 30 days on these pants this season, with high praises and a few minor complaints. The fit is great and the belt system rocks if you lose some weight. If you're athletically built and eat steaks and drink beer occasionally, arcteryx will fit you. If your tall and eat 6 gram of granola a day (only), patagonia will fit you. Onto the problems. First, the chord that tightens the bottom to keep the snow out always loosens. I am about to tie it in a knot, but then it won't be adjustable so I haven't done it yet. Second, the side vents come open at the top after a full day-- slightly annoying and didn't happen with previous arcteryx pants. Why not 3 zippers? Then it could be all three be zipped down to the bottom. All in all, quality is great as you would expect from Arcteryx and you won't be disappointed. Highly recommend.

Best softshell pant I have tried

By: Pardner(15)

I'm a 36 waist and 31 inseam and the Large fits perfectly. Much more comfortable than Stingray Pant - mostly because this fits better and material is softer. Styling is progressive enough for boarders. Also has Gore waterproof guarantee and is made in Canada.

Great so far

Very nice pants, can't beat softshell feel plus waterproof. I have the Stingray pant as well but these have a bit softer outside feel and have a little more of a fleecy lining. Arc'teryx makes the best general purpose outerwear. I can't wait to use these on the slopes.

Colorado comfort

Quality pants...kept me comfortable even with -45 degree windchill. Sizing chart was very accurate, had ample room for 36" waist in men's large size. Expensive but worth the price.

Scorpion pants

By: Anonymous(3)
January 28, 2007

These pants have very high tech materials, nice texture and bomber feel. In terms of functionality they are roomy and have extra room for knee pads. The downside are the pockets on the leg--who wants to have stuff in their pockets on the legs when they are skiing?
