Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip - Men's

The Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip is a great fleece in the backcountry or in the base lodge. Polartec Thermal Pro tweed makes for super efficient compression and top-notch moisture control. The Apache has laminated elbow patches that cut down on wear and keep it from binding up when you use it to layer. Arc'teryx's awesome welded seams and gusseted underarms all make an appearance with the Apache, and a DWR finish keeps light drizzles from going instantly through it like most fleece. *Available for US shipment only.

Bottom Line: Chief fleece on the hill.

Mediocre

By:
January 16, 2008

pros: looks, construction, warmth, venting Cons: too short in the sleeves and not long enough in the torso Bottom line: I got this piece for Christmas, and while it looks good and is warm, it fits too goofy for my liking. I'm 6'4" so i need something that is not going to sit above my belt. Seriously consider your height before getting this piece Update: Exchanged for Arcteryx Tau (will write an update as soon as i get it)

Warm and Durable

By:
December 5, 2007

The Arcteryx Apache is a great piece of kit--very warm and seems like it will be very durable, even under a pack. The fleece is a bit thicker and more tightly woven than the Covert collar zip top. I ordered a large as that is the size Covert top that I wear. However, the Apache was a bit too snug, particularly in the arms. I returned it for an XL which fits more like the large Covert. These guys were great--the replacement arrived in three days and they gave it to me at the original sale price, even though the sale had ended in the interim.

He loved the gift

By:
April 23, 2007

I gave this item as a gift and it was very well received. Not only is the fit good, but it's well made and my understanding is that it's also fairly made in Canada, not in a sweatshop.

Great quality

Great fit and finish. Feels warm, but sent it back because the statue color that looks light gray is more blue and I have nothing in my closet that matched.

Very good overall, expensive

By:
January 24, 2007

First off, this is a very lightweight jacket, which is quite warm for its weight. It is not windproof at all, however this is not the purpose of the jacket, so it isn't a downfall. One problem I have with it is incredible amounts of lint and pilling have developed very quickly; also attracts hair like no other. Other than that, great jacket with excellent form fit.

abused

By:
January 9, 2007

This is by far the most used piece of gear I own. It's very warm and layers great. My only...I wouldn't say complaint...we'll say 'thing'...is that the cut doesn't really work for the long torso'd crowd. this goes for most outdoor gear as a lot of clothing is cut for harness use. I just don't like my belly button exposed every time I reach up. The stitching is unraveling a tad in the cuff also, but that's more attributed to the beating I give it. No holes have come of it.

Incredible Performance Item

By:
December 12, 2006

Just recently received my Apache fleece--by far the best investment I have ever made for cold weather, relaxation gear. Extremely soft and warm--obviously well made and durable. Kept me warm in 25 degree weather with only a t-shirt on. Strongly suggest the investment!

Great mid layer pull over

By:
November 30, 2006

This is almost the perfect mid layer. Not only is it lightweight, compressible, and warm Polertec, it has several key features in a pullover that I considered prior to this purchase. The laminated vertical zippered chest pocket keeps my ipod close to my core to preserve battery life and provides easy access under a shell even with gloves on. I also liked the reinforced elbow pads and flatlock triple stitched seams to insure long life. Looks great too. Simply put, when you want the best, go with ArcTeryx. The only brand still made in North America. ArcTeryx: next year include a hem drawcord, hand warming pockets, a curved zipper or chin guard and I'll buy 3. I rate you guys BEST IN CLASS and highly recommend due to pricing, customer service, fast shipment, and return policy. Simply Awesome. A+++

Hmmmm, warm

By:
October 13, 2006

This jacket is very warm and comfortable. I can wear it to school and around the house and not overheat, yet at the same time, wear it outside in chilly fall weather and be fine. Great jacket and something you should definitely have in your cache.

Apache AR In Real Life Usage

By:
May 27, 2006

I got an Apache AR fleece to replace an aging Columbia fleece. Arc'teryx had an excellent reputation for high quality items, reviews were positive, and I liked the style of it. Having now used it for several weeks over a few light hikes and mostly day-to-day living, my impressions are very positive. It is a thin layer compared to many other fleece tops, but insulates quite well despite it. The zip neck is surprisingly effective at moderating temperature by simply zipping up more or less. The brushed collar and flatlocked seams worked by preventing any chafing regions and I find the trim cut very comfortable overall. The chest pocket is a good place to stash a wallet, and the zipper on it (and the front zip) are both high quality and slide easily, even when pulled from strange angles. The only annoyance I have discovered with it is from the brushed fiber ends of the sleeves; the way they are stitched on makes it slightly thicker than the sleeve material itself. Thus if you rest your arms when typing (or some similar activity) it creates an uncomfortable pressure spot on your wrist, unless you pull the sleeve down or shove it up a little. Of course the Apache is designed as outdoor gear, so I doubt this was a design consideration, but just about everyone uses a fleece for day to day life too, and at this price point I expect damn near perfection. So overall, only one very minor complaint about an overall excellent product. If you don't have a gut, and are looking for a nice fleece, it gets my thumbs up.

KEEPS YOU WARM BUT LOOKS LIKE CRAP

By:
May 18, 2006

I am sorry to report that the Apache AR Zip was not one of the greatest purchases my husband has made. We LOVE Arc'teryx and my husband loves this pullover however it pills up something fierce and looks terrible. As far as what it claims to do performance wise it lives up to every expectation only it doesn't survive the washing machine.

This ones popular for a reason

By:

Probably the most comfortable ski shirt I have ever owned. Does not have any wind protection so it dries very fast. Also keeps me cool when I'm climbing.

Pills after short time with normal use

By:
March 13, 2006

I love other Arc’teryx stuff I have, but have been really disappointed with the Apache AR Zip. Despite the tighter weave of the fleece, it has started to pill after only a month of normal wear. This is made even more noticeable because the fleece has a slight pattern to it. Doubt I'll buy another Arc’teryx fleece again.

Apache AR Zip - Men's

By:
March 9, 2006

The service was great. I live in Europe and I had to confirm my credit card number. I did it with the online chat and it worked great. This fleece is very good. I have used it with my Arc’teryx Theta jacket. I normally have a T-shirt, the Apache fleece, and my jacket and it works very well. It is a very light fleece that you can have in your backpack. When it is very cold (-20C) I have this fleece under my Arc’teryx Maverick fleece and I don't feel any cold.

Really, really nice!

By:
January 29, 2006

The Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip is so nice that I've bought more than one. It's warm, has a unique look and feel, and it is made with quality craftsmanship. The only drawback is that it has a very slim profile, so if you are overweight, the sizing might not work for you. Yes, Arc'teryx products might be a little pricier than other brands, but they're worth it!

Arcteryx is the Rolls Royce of the outdoor world

By:
January 21, 2006

An old friend of mine was head jacket designer at Low Alpine and she said that these were industry renowned as the best in the world. She was right, this wind topper fleece is outstanding, it is just too good to be true, fabric is comfortable, warms and is fine in moderate rain. Wash it and it is perfect again. Expensive but worth it.

Check sizing carefully!

By:
October 3, 2005

As you'd expect from a top manufacturer like Arc’tery, this is a very nicely designed garment. It has clean and simple lines, is lightweight, and looks great. It seems like it should be durable too, although I've not yet had time to assess this. My only tiny gripes are these: firstly, the sizing is a little on the small side. If you're used to generous American sizing, you might be caught out. I'm used to buying medium sizes, and the medium here turned out to be a little snug, particularly around the underarms. Secondly, the fleece was slightly thicker than I expected: thicker than a conventional lightweight fleece, but thinner than heavyweight outerwear. Still, I expect that as winter rolls in, I'll appreciate the extra warmth.

Good, versatile pull-over

By:
May 6, 2005

Good investment. The best half-zip jacket I've even encountered. The material on the interior of the jacket is soft and keeps you very warm. The jacket fits well, and can employed for a pleathora of roles, inlcuding base layer, jacket inside a rain shell, or the final layer in on a cool day.
