Very Light Emergency Backup

Very lightweight emergency insurance. Also, it made a great floor when I used it once in one of those single-pole minimalist floorless tents.

Bivy for winter weather or emergency

By:
December 28, 2005

For those looking for an emergency bivy or for someone like myself seeking a lightweight bivy for use under a smallish tarp or poncho, this is what you are looking for. I found the bivy useful in cold weather when used in conjunction with a vapor barrier bag liner inside my down bag (as this bivy is not made of breathable material, although it does have a foot vent and large head end opening). It repacks into it's small stuff sack without force, and should last many outings with careful use as it is constructed with somewhat fragile material, similar to the fabric in FroggToggs rainwear only thinner. Could use a lower price given its high wear potential, but overall it’s a useful product for me.

Fortunately have not had to use it yet.

I hope I never find myself in a position where I need to use this product. I have had a couple of close calls in the past where I thought I may have to spend the night outdoors unprepared. Now that I have the Bivy sack, it is one of my essential emergency items that I always take along on the trail. It is very light and does not take up much room, and I fully expect that it will serve its purpose in the event of an emergency.

Might as well thow the bivy in your pack

I have been throwing this in the bottom of my pack for quick day skiing trips in the Wasatch, haven't used it yet but it makes me feel a little more prepared if myself or someone in my group where injured or had to unexpectedly stay the night. This could save your life.
