Another great review

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been using it most of the winter here in PDX in the wind and rain and cold. Super light weight like practically weightless so it's always in my pocket if I'm not wearing it. Nice tapered fit in the arms and great length as well. The overall length of the jacket is nice as well. My only little complaint is the hood doesn't have a string so it fits a little loosely but has never come off when I'm running. Can see this becoming my favorite shell for spring hikes soon too.

Awesome lightweight running jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This jacket is superlight. It has great wind resistance and is OK in light rain. Great for cold weather running. Seems to breath great as I don't build up sweat inside. i also bring it with me on all my long runs just in case of some weird weather change. It is so light and packs up so small you can just carry it in a pocket without really noticing it. it would be silly to go out without it! I haven't come across any jacket better in its class.

One Of My Best Purchases Ever

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm a runner and this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I cant say enough about this jacket. Its so very light weight but keeps the warmth in. On a cold day I wear nothing but a light weight compression shirt underneath. Its great in light rain and wind. If I don't need it I can just scrunch it up and put it in a pocket. I'm 6'4 and about 195 lbs and an XL fits just right. I like the length of the sleeves.. long enough to go over my hands some. No problems with it over my GPS watch either. Still functions normally. One of those things I may buy two of because its not that expensive and I'd hate if I lost or ruined the one I have.

Great lightweight wind shell!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great more affordable alternative to the Patagonia Houdini shell! It stands up well to wind and light drizzle, not suitable as a rain shell. It packs into its own pocket which is great for storage, but the material is so paper thin you almost forget your wearing it! I'm 5'10" and the L fits a little tight in the forearms and chest. I use this shell when hiking and touring and its perfect for the skin or climb up and doesn't add bulk to your backpack as it packs so small!

Everthing you need, nothing you don't

I am so extremely pleased with this jacket. It weighs next to nothing and I can run with this jacket in my hand for an hour with out even noticing (packs into its pocket). I wear this jacket in temps down to 40 F with just a tshirt underneath and it seals in the warmth, keeps out the rain well too.

just fits, glad it does.

6'3" 195lbs, typically wear large/talls... sometimes xl. buy this jacket bigger than you think. i am using the xl and it fits nicely, but is a hair tight throughout the arms and a bit baggy otherwise. it's not a bad fit, just a hair wonky. other than the fit, the jacket works well. i use it for running on rainy/windy days and as a just-in-case for day hikes. it breathes well, sheds light rain and weighs nigh upon nothing. good jacket if it fits you and great deal if caught on sale.

lightest thing ever

Its uber light. It does what its supposed to. The forearms fit a little tight, and the fixed width cuff is hard to deal with when taking it off, but I have that problem with lots of things. I always have this in my pack.

Love it!

Super light and small. This is the perfect jacket to throw in your backpack and use when a light rain hits or it just gets a little chilly at the end of your hike. I can't believe how durable it is too for such a lightweight jacket. Great job Stoic!

Perfect

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wanted to find a rain jacket that was light enough to take off and carry during runs without being bogged down. It's that time of year here in Virginia where the mornings are cold and the weather a little dreary and temps are cooling off everyday - it'also the start of race season with several major races scheduled back to back through February. Ultimately the issue I had was getting to the race at 7AM in cold chilly conditions and not wanting to turn around and leave because I was freezing, but, I didn't want to have to carry anything bulky during my run. This jacket is perfect. I ran my last half marathon in it and it worked perfectly. Kept the wind off me and kept in my body heat in going to the race and waiting in the corral, but when the race started and I started to warm up I was able to shed it and put it in my pocket. It was awesome sauce.

incredibly light and very useful garment

I love the ultra-lightweight slick fabric that's the basis for this jacket. I can carry it anywhere---from business trips in my briefcase to hiking or boating, it's always there when needed and takes only a few seconds to get on and protected from light showers and wind. I'd prefer some more neutral colors (beige or tan) and hope you'll continue to offer this wonderful product this coming season.

Zip Zip... Is this thing on?

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

What the what- talk about a suuuper light weight jacket. Lightest jacket I've ever put on.

Used as a light trail running jacket- great if run is not too intense. Would be ideal if it breathed a bit better and had pit vents. But I knew this going in.

Still in the market for one... Houdini? Effusion? I am coming for you!

I've busted this out a few times on a drizzly hikes out in the PNW. Works great.

Impulse buy at it's finest when things go on sale.

Size wise, I opted for the large. I am 6 foot 1 and about 165ish. Medium could probably work, but my loooong arms needed the extra length of the large.

LIght weight & warm moisture protection

I just got this jacket. Its super light yes, but its also actually quite warm considering its paper thin nylon. Not that I'm about to go snowboarding in it, but damp hikes or fall runs this will be a great layering asset.

Sizing: I am almost 6' 3", and weight 205 lbs, athletic build. I ordered a Large since I like things a hair smaller/tighter fitting than most. It fits me just how I like everywhere except for the forearm near the elbow are tight when I bend my arm, and the torso could be an inch or so longer. I'm not sure if going to an XL will really remedy this problem enough to matter though, so I'm going to order an XL to see which fits better and I'll post here after with further review.

Bottom Line: For the $45 or so this jacket cost at the time of my purchase, its worth every penny. Quality construction & flawless function as a light rain/wind jacket.

Wish List: I wish it had draw strings & reflective tape along the front zipper like the women's version (called the Luminous), & it would be nice if it came in alt colors. Blue, yellow, red, white, & black would all look way better than the orange or green.

Small and packable

This is just what I was looking for: warmth without bulk. When packed in its own pocket it is about the size of my fist. I bought it for backpacking, but it tends to go with me for for most of my outdoor activities when weather or altitude may make it useful. As other reviewers said, the arms and shoulders can be a little tight. I'm 6' with medium build and went with the XL. A little snug in the arms and shoulders, but next size up would probably be too large in the torso, so it works for me. Maybe could use a little better placed reflective lettering to be useful for biking, but that's a minor quibble. Thanks for a great product at a great price.

Synthetic Feather

This shell is pretty cool. It's light, compresses well, thin, and stylish. I ordered a medium and it has a tight cut on me (5'11"/180lb) but I believe a large would have been too big. Can't wait to break this puppy in!

Good deal

The Stoic Wraith is a inexpensive substitute for the Patagonia Houdini. It fits snugger than a Houdini. To layer buy one size larger. I am a medium and I ended up buying a large. Sleeves run alittle long in all the sizes, but it is not really an inconvenience.
Recommendations to Stoic: Shorten the sleeves and come out with a black color.

Very functional at a great price!

This wind jacket will do exactly at intended. That is, blocking the wind. It will add a bit of warmth insulation, but don't depend on it to protect against a severe chill. This jacket along with a Cap 3 long sleeve shirt will protect me down to about 50 degrees.

For sizing, the major factor is the sleeves. They are cut very narrow. I'm 5'11", 190 lbs, and the XL is the perfect fit sleeve-wise, but just a bit large around the torso. However, when wearing my Montbell UL inner down jacket underneath, it's a perfect combination, and should protect me down to 30 degrees. And, the XL only weighs 2.5 ounces!! You can't beat that!

Extra layer of skin

Took a 4 mile walk on the edge of tropical storm Debby with the new Wraith. The XL fit my 6'6" 250 frame just right, love the full zip, the hood stayed on my head in the wind, need a baseball cap to keep the rain out of my face. Held off light drizzle for a while, but 2 miles in my sweat met the rain and became one, I didn't expect any different. Changed into a w/b for comparison, and much preferred the more breathable Wraith. Was able to get the drenched Wraith back on, which was not easy, kind of like plastic wrap it is so thin, but got it back on and really enjoyed the rest of the walk. Here in Florida this is all you need 10 months out of the year. I hung it up in my humid garage and it was fully dry in 2 hours. The little pocket held my iPhone and ID just fine. Green color is not as vivid as the website would lead you to believe which is a good thing. At the sale price this is a great buy and a 3 oz savings to my previous shell which I thought I would never switch.

Super light!

Good wind and rain protection. Hikers and backpackers shouldn't leave home without one of these. Love how easily and quickly this stuffs into the built-in zipper pocket. Protects from light rain but soaks through if it is a long steady rain.
