Named for its non-bulky fleece lining and fully welded construction, the Stoic Women's Welder Lo Softshell Jacket is the ideal technical softshell for enduring the cold when you're headed up or down the mountains. Highly breathable and water-resistant softshell fabric offers plenty of protection from the elements while still allowing you to move freely, and the streamlined fit is shaped specifically for a woman's body. Pull the Welder Lo out of your backpacking pack when the first part of a storm front moves in, or use this as a midweight insulating layer underneath your favorite shell.

  • Polartec Power Shield softshell fabric keeps you dry when precipitation falls, and the fabric breathes away excess heat and moisture so you feel dry even if you're working up a sweat
  • Fully welded seams add further weather protection while eliminating the bulky, abrasive feeling that's common in stitched-seam softshells
  • Fleece liner is non-bulky and capable of keeping you warm in cold, mid-winter weather
  • The Welder’s women-specific 3-D ergonomic fit is tailored with a taper at the hips and extra room in the chest
  • Fully-adjustable hood fits over helmets and beanies alike, making the Welder a great partner when you’re skiing the deeps or stuck on belay

Great jacket for spring

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

This jacket is fantastic. It's super stylish, the coral color is really flattering, and for a shell it's amazingly warm. I ski mostly in Maine and there are spring days that can turn into a gusty squall in the blink of an eye, but this jacket will still keep you warm and dry. Fit is slightly tight, but it still looks good. If you are trying to wear a fleece underneath it might be hard getting on since the jacket is fleece lined. Hood fits well over helmet. Overall great buy!

Excellent quality shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I ordered this in the coral color and found it to fit very true to size. It is a high quality jacket that has nice details and makes the perfect shell for skiing in warmer temps. My only disappointment was that the color was a muted coral and the bright coral as shown in the photo. All in all, I love the jacket.

Great pick, for the right sitch(uation)

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought this jacket several years ago, thinking it was insulated. At the time I was dissatisfied because the jacket runs small, and I had to cram a bunch of layers on it in order to make it warm enough for downhill skiing.

However, when used for more aerobic activities, such as backcountry skiing, or cross country skiing, this jacket is perfect. The wind is kept off, the hood is a perfect size to throw over my helmet, or a beanie. It also has great breathability, and I typically rock just a wicking layer underneath. This jacket is also amazing for spring skiing conditions.

I know I've had the product for a few years, but I wanted to also report that the welded seems are beginning to fray from such heavy use, but that otherwise the jacket is still in great shape, and I use it all the time.

Bottom line: if you need a lightweight shell for aerobic or spring skiing conditions this is the jacket for you. If you need something heavier for colder conditions, grab the stoic insulated bombshell jacket instead.

Love this jacket!

Used it for backcountry skiing in the Northeast (Adirondacks) - perfect with one base layer doing lots of uphill in low to mid-teens temps. Sweat seemed to dry quickly. Blocked the wind well when out in the exposed areas, and kept me warm on the downhill.

I love the fit - ordered S and XS, keeping the XS - I'm 5', 103 lbs. LOVE LOVE LOVE the tapered sleeves that fit right into my mitts NO struggle, fuss or muss with velcro tabs.

Worked well in light precip, haven't had a chance to test in heavier precip but I wasn't looking for waterproof anyway (which it is not stated to be)

    Very happy with this jacket!!!

    Great for touring

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

This is a great jacket for touring because it is so breathable. It is very comfortable and it is pretty long which I like. The only thing that I was not sure about was how the cuff on this coat was so tight. You have to wear your gloves over it and cannot tuck them in.

    Everything but the color

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I loved everything about this jacket (great quality, stylish, warm), but I wasn't in love with the color.

how to wash it? machine wash or hand wash?...

how to wash it? machine wash or hand wash? cold water or warm water? low temperature dry or other dry? Thanks!

I don't have this jacket, but I wash ALL my technical gear cold/cold on the delicate cycle in the machine -- using "SportsSuds" detergent.

I have found this to be the most effective combination of convenience and effectiveness: I get to machine wash and stuff gets clean (and stink free), but I have little/no worry that I'm beating stuff to an early demise.

I DO hang dry anything that does not specifically state that it can be dried, and I tend to dry at a lower temp than everyone recommends.

I bought a Stoic fleece with the center back length of 30" but this jacket states the medium is 26" long. Is this particular jacket intended or shorter woman? I really like the look of it, but I'm 6'0 and have a hard time finding jackets/ shirts long enough. Any suggestions?

What kind of temps and wind conditions would this jacket be appropriate for?

Hi there, thanks for the question.

It's hard to provide a precice temp range for this jacket, because it will be highly dependent on what kind of activities you plan to be doing. If active and walking around, this will be great for 40-50s with a light baselayer underneath. If you aren't going to be active, you will need to use a thicker layer (such as a fleece or down jacket) underneath. This jacket does have a thin fleece lining for some added warmth.
